Chapter 519: The Cookies and Milk

Gastone blinked a couple of times as he was starting to wake up. His vision was blurry, and he had a severe headache.

"Ugh..." Gastone groaned as he tried to sat up. He felt his body in severe pain, especially his joints. However, he could no longer feel any emotional pain, unlike before. "What happened?" he murmured to himself.

"You lost consciousness five days ago," a familiar voice replied.

Gastone stopped moving and looked at where the voice came from. "Draco..." he whispered, seeing him sitting on the chair beside him.

"Hmm, I hope you’re alright now," Draco stated while nodding, looking at Gastone’s body to ensure he was entirely alright.

"Wait, did you just say... five days ago?" Gastone frowned in confusion and wanted to ensure he didn’t mishear it.

"Yes, you have been sleeping for five days, Gastone. Your wolf was in bad shape, too, since it has been taking a lot of pain to prevent you from collapsing," Draco explained slowly to help Gastone understand the situation promptly.

"I see... thank you," Gastone smiled softly as he slumped back to the bed, closing his eyes and enjoying the softness of the bedsheets.

"You’re welcome," Draco replied, cupping his hands together. He was sincerely surprised Gastone was able to handle the mate bond’s rejection.

"I believe you want to hear the full story," Gastone chuckled lowly. He glanced at Draco and saw him with a raised brow.

"Well, I’m just here to listen if you want to tell me," Draco replied, trying not to rush Gastone since he knew it would still hurt after the treatment. He was willing to wait until Gastone was ready to share the story.

Gastone nodded, considering whether to tell, or not. After a few minutes of silence, he finally decided to speak.

"Lucia... she’s an orphan..." Gastone choked on his own words as he started to remember the past, but he held strong.

"I see. There’s nothing wrong with that," Draco replied, thinking there was nothing wrong with being an orphan.

"Yes, of course, but it’s not that easy..." Gastone explained, sighing deeply.

"If it still hurts to tell. We can talk about it next time," Draco stated, trying to be as understandable as possible.

"I am fine now. I already accepted it," Gastone forced a smile as he stared at the ceiling. He let the memories of the past flow back into his brain. He wanted to cry and grieve, but he pushed it back as he felt pathetic.

"Okay, take your time," Draco muttered, leaning back on his chair. He grabbed a cookie and dunked it in the warm milk that Rosina had prepared for them. "Here, have a snack, too. It will help."

Gastone couldn’t help but laugh. "Thank you, but maybe after I told you everything," he replied, taking a deep breath. "Okay, I’ll start now..."

For more than two hours, Gastone told Draco everything, from the start to the very end, when he decided to go back to the werewolf realm. However, he skipped the part where Lucia and him were intimate since it was private.

Draco clasped his arms together and leaned on his hand. He was thinking deeply since he never knew what Gastone was experiencing back in the human world with his mate.

Even though Draco experienced the worst with Rosina, it hadn’t reached the point where it was totally over between them since he never gave up.

However, Gastone gave up on Lucia, which was the difference between them.

"That’s all for now," Gastone ended his story with a nod. He felt so hungry after that he chugged two cups of milk and ate a bunch of cookies.

"I understand your situation... but is it enough to leave her there?" Draco asked slowly, as he didn’t want to offend Gastone.

Gastone was so taken aback by Draco’s question that he choked on the milk he drank. It shoots up from his nose with a bit of cookie bits into the bed sheet before him.

"Oh my!" Draco stood up to avoid any particles coming in his way. His face crunched in disgust, but he started laughing so much. "HAHAHA! YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN YOUR FACE! HAHAHA!

Draco laughed so much that it hurt his stomach, and he rolled on the floor, laughing like a maniac as if air wasn’t a necessity.

Gastone, on the other hand, kept coughing and sneezing. He felt as if he was drowned in milk, and it was hard for him to breathe. He ignored Draco’s extreme laughing since he also felt like he was dying.

The two men were in such stark contrast to the heavy conversation that had taken place just moments earlier.

Gastone, struggling to breathe and clear the milk from his nose, shot Draco a withering glance as he struggled to regain his composure.

"Why do you always do that?" Gastone rasped between coughs, his voice hoarse. He wiped his face with the back of his hand, the mixture of milk and crumbs feeling uncomfortably sticky against his skin.

Gastone shook his head. Draco was still the same person he had been before, a person so playful that people around him didn’t take him seriously.

Draco, still laughing, tried to sit up, but his body convulsed with another round of uncontrollable giggles.

"I—I’m sorry! You just... you should’ve seen it!" Draco wiped tears from his eyes and slowly pulled himself together. "It was the perfect comic timing. I couldn’t help it."

Gastone rolled his eyes, but the corner of his mouth twitched. Despite everything, Draco always had a way of making him laugh, even in his darkest moments. He allowed himself a small smile as he cleared his throat.

"Anyway," Gastone said, his voice stronger now, "I didn’t leave her there because I wanted to. You know that. It was more complicated than that."

Draco, sensing the shift in mood, calmed down and nodded. He sat back down in his chair, crossing his arms. "I know, Gastone. I didn’t mean to make light of it. But I have to ask— do you really think this is the end? That you can just walk away from her, from your mate?"
