Chapter 513: The Dream

Gastone clutched his chest as he decided to leave the party early. He just wanted to get away as far as possible and cry himself to sleep.

"Fancy seeing you here again," a familiar voice sounded behind.

Gastone turned around and saw Giselle smoking a fancy pip. She was leaning against the statue, looking bored.

"Oh, why are you here?" Gastone asked curiously. He composed himself and walked toward Giselle. "Don’t you want to join the fun?"

"I can ask the same thing for you," Giselle chuckled and blew a smoke. "Your friend is getting married. Yet, you are here outside."

Gastone’s face hardened. He felt Giselle was trying to get information based on his reaction. "The crowd is too much for me, but I knew the plan beforehand."

"Really? You seem surprised to me. Just like everyone else," Giselle shook her head as she slightly disapproved of Daniel’s sudden marriage news.

"I’m just too happy for them," Gastone lied, standing beside Giselle. Somehow, he didn’t feel any anger from her. Instead, her presence was oddly comforting despite the tension always accompanying their conversations.

Giselle glanced at him, a knowing smile playing on her lips. "You’re a terrible liar, Gastone."

Gastone sighed, rubbing his temples. "But I’m not lying about the crowd. I need some air, and you?"

Giselle took another puff from her pipe, the smoke swirling around her like a ghost. "I don’t care much for weddings," she said nonchalantly. "Too much pretense. Too many people pretend to be something they’re not. It’s exhausting."

Gastone nodded, understanding more than he let on. "It’s Daniel, though. He’s your friend, too."

"A rich client," Giselle corrected, her tone sharp.

Gastone raised an eyebrow as a question appeared in his mind. "You don’t fancy this future wedding, huh?" he asked cautiously.

"That girl... she just appeared out of nowhere... and her name," Giselle frowned as she recalled Lucia’s appearance.

"What about it?" Gastone asked, trying to get to know Giselle’s side.

"Hah! I was expecting that b^tch as the girl Daniel was obsessed with, but she looked nothing similar to her," Giselle muttered, referring to the Lucia she had raised in the Orphanage.

Gastone’s mouth twitched. "Ah, the one you warned me earlier? Perhaps Lucia is a popular name," he replied playfully.

"I’m not surprised by that. I had found many ladies named Lucia in the past. I’m sure that b^tch already changed her name to avoid any detection from me. It’s a pity. She was my most precious property," Giselle stated sadly, shaking her head at the lost money she could have earned.

Gastone clenched his fist, trying not to get triggered by Giselle’s words. "Maybe it’s time to let her go?" he said carefully.

"Let her go!? Never! You know how much money I spent on her and how much I lost when she escaped— ugh! Nevermind that. Why am I telling you this? It’s none of your business anyway," Giselle waved his hand away, trying to make Gastone leave.

However, Gastone chose to stay. "Well, have you been married before?" he asks, trying to change the conversation before Giselle gets suspicious of him.

"Haha! Why are you asking personal questions? Do you like me?" Giselle teased, smirking at Gastone.

"No, I don’t swing that way," Gastone raised both hands in surrender, not wanting Giselle to misunderstand him.

"I might be old, but I still have that juice!" Giselle exclaimed, laughing loudly, amused by Gastone’s reaction.

Gastone cringed but shook it off. "So, are you married?"

Giselle’s smile dropped and was replaced by sadness. "I never married, but I have a son," she stated softly. Her eyes stared at the moon with visible longing.

"He must be grown now," Gastone commented, thinking Giselle’s son might be around his age.

"Of course... it’s been years... I don’t even remember his face," Giselle whispered in the last sentence, and her voice sounded as if she was in pain.

Gastone remained silent as he connected Giselle’s story and realized she hadn’t seen his son for years. However, he was delighted that she started opening up to him, which was what he wanted.

Giselle looked at Gastone, squinting his eyes. "That reminds me. How did you manage to come here in the human realm? Do you have the key to open the portal?"

Gastone’s lips formed into a thin line. He didn’t want to tell Giselle the truth; he wanted to use it for himself, as it was only limited.

"I wish I had that key," Gastone replied, laughing awkwardly. "But sadly, I don’t. Do you want to get back to the werewolf realm?"

Giselle’s hopeful eyes vanished. She sighed deeply and continued smoking. "It’s not bad to visit. However, my presence will bring nothing but chaos. I don’t want any trouble for my son," she replied.

That was when Gastone noticed Giselle’s hand shaking.

’Her son must be a sensitive topic for her. I wonder who it is,’ Gastone thought. Even though he wanted to ask further, he stopped himself as he didn’t want to comfort Giselle if she got emotional.

Silence fell between them; the only sound was from Giselle’s mouth blowing smoke.

Gastone shifted uncomfortably, unsure of what to say next. The tension between them felt heavy, and the silence stretched on.

Finally, Giselle broke it with a sigh. "You know," she began, her voice softer now, almost vulnerable. "I didn’t always hate weddings. There was a time when I dreamt of a different life— a normal one that included a wedding, but dreams don’t always come true, do they?"

Gastone glanced at Giselle, surprised by her candor. "No, they don’t," he agreed, his tone gentle. "But they keep us going. Giving us something to strive for."

Giselle chuckled, though it was a bitter sound. "Perhaps. But some dreams... some dreams are better left behind." She took a deep drag from her pipe, the smoke curling around her like a protective shroud.

"Tell me, Gastone," Giselle said after a moment, her eyes narrowing slightly, "What is it you dream of?"
