Chapter 505: The Baby-blue Eyes
Gastone’s eyes twitched as he didn’t like how the woman indirectly showed his authority to him. "I don’t respect a rogue who decides to live in the human world. Tell me, why are you here?"
"You asks a lot of question, little boy. I could say the same thing to you," the woman replied with a teasing smile.
Gastone gritted his teeth. He knew they were in the same situation and shouldn’t be fighting, but there was something off about the woman. "Don’t call me that!"
"Oh, then what should I call you?" the woman tilted her head, waiting for Gastone’s answer.
"It surprises me that you don’t recognize this handsome face," Gastone stated while pointing at his cheeks. He changed his ways of identifying the person before him.
If the woman didn’t recognize Gastone’s face, it meant that she was living in the human realm even before he was born. His face was famous among the Werewolves due to his distinctive features, so it was rare for anyone not to recognize his face.
The woman sighed and shrugged. "You know how to throw some little jokes, but no. I don’t recognize you," she stated.
"I see. Then what crime have you done to be sent here?" Gastone asked, pointing his finger at the woman. "No wonder you’re a rogue."
The woman’s eyes flashed with a hint of amusement. "Oh, you think I’m here because of some crime?" She stepped closer, her movements graceful and confident. "What about you? What crime did you commit to end up here?"
Gastone’s jaw tightened. "That’s none of your business."
The woman scratched her head in annoyance. "I’m not a criminal. I was sent here because— wait. Now that you mention it, your eyes looks familiar."
"Huh?" Gastone frowned and stepped back when the woman started to get closer.
"I only know one person with the same striking electric-blue eyes in the whole realm... Rocco," the woman whispered the name of the previous King with a softer gaze.
"You know that man?" Gastone asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and suspicion. He kept his distance as the woman continued to approach.
The woman’s eyes seemed to glaze over with memories as she spoke. "Rocco Violante... He was a great leader, a visionary among our kind," she paused, her gaze hardening as she looked at Gastone. "Who are you!?"
Gastone jumped back to create a safe distance between them. He didn’t want to attack after sensing the woman must have some connection with the royal family. "Why would I answer that question?" he stated, smirking.
"You... are you... no, you have that golden hair," the woman muttered to herself. She tried her best to put the pieces together, but her memory wasn’t that good anymore.
"Tell me who you are, and I’ll tell mine," Gastone dropped a deal for both of them to gain what they wanted to know.
The woman eyed Gastone warily, weighing his words. After a moment, she seemed to come to a decision. "Fair enough," she said, straightening up. Her cold and menacing facial expression changed and was replaced with longing.
Silence fell between them, and only the sound of crickets was heard from the distance. Then, the sound of the phone ringing echoed nearby.
The woman glanced at the side where her things were placed. "Let’s talk next time. I have something important to do," she stated, turning her back.
Gastone’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he nodded. "Fine. But don’t think this conversation is over. Atleast tell me your name!" he exclaimed, watching as the woman moved towards her things.
The woman stopped walking. Half of her figure was already submerged in the darkness of the night. "Let’s meet in the next full moon," she said before vanishing.
"WAIT!" Gastone shouted in haste and ran toward the woman’s direction, but she was no longer there. "Tsk! Where did she go!?"
Gastone stood in the dim light of the forest, frustration boiling within him.
The woman had disappeared into the night, leaving Gastone with more questions than answers. He clenched his fists, trying to quell the rising tide of impatience.
"The next full moon is weeks away!" Gastone gritted his teeth as he had no intention of waiting that long to uncover the truth.
Gastone darted through the forest, his heart pounding as he searched for any trace of the woman. However, her scent gradually faded, leaving him feeling both frustrated and anxious.
’I should keep my true identity from her as much as possible,’ Gastone thought as he stopped for a few seconds to take a few deep breaths. He felt it was the right thing to do and keep himself away from another nuisance.
After several minutes of fruitless searching, Gastone returned to the spot where he had left his clothes. He was drenched in sweat, his muscles aching from the effort, but his thoughts were consumed by that woman.
Gastone couldn’t shake the feeling that their encounter was just the beginning of something much larger.
"Ah, my eyes... and hair," Gastone whispered, gazing up at the moon. He knew his flashy eye color was a fabrication, and he often wondered how his mother, Cinzia, had managed to replicate Rocco’s distinctive shade so perfectly. "He’s not my real father anyway," he muttered to himself, feeling a mix of resentment and sadness.
A pang of pain pierced Gastone’s heart as memories of Rocco flooded back. He recalled the moments they shared since he was a pup, moments that brought both happiness and sorrow. "I wonder what my real father looked like," he mused aloud.
Gastone then tried to remember the woman’s features: She had short, black hair with baby-blue eyes. Even though she was old, her beauty was still visible. Yet, something about her appearance seemed too ordinary, too unremarkable.
"Hmm, I don’t recall anyone who looks like her," Gastone muttered, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. He felt the woman’s features were too basic.
Choosing to set those thoughts aside for now, Gastone decided to seek his answers when the next full moon came in. He composed himself and returned to the city; he needed to take a rest since he would be attending a party the next day.
