Chapter 506: The Grip on Her Neck
The next day arrived quickly, and Gastone prepared himself for the party with a mix of nervousness and worries. Two hours ago, he contacted Daniel and asked for his plans, but he didn’t answer.
Gastone stared at himself in the mirror. His hair was combed back slickly. The white tux and dark blue inner shirt complemented his electric-blue eyes, giving him a polished yet striking appearance.
"That’s better," Gastone muttered and sighed deeply. He wasn’t excited to attend, but he needed to be there.
As Gastone adjusted his tie in the mirror, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. He kept thinking about the mysterious woman he had met the day before.
"I need to focus on Lucia today," Gastone reminded himself before leaving his apartment.
The streets were busy as Gastone made his way to Nutri’s mansion. The city buzzed with life as many fancy cars drove to attend the party, especially when it was made public.
As he approached the mansion, Gastone noticed the grand entrance already crowded with guests. The mansion itself was an architectural marvel, with towering columns and a sprawling garden that sparkled under the evening lights. He gave his invitation to the doorman and walked inside, greeted by classical music and the clinking of champagne glasses.
The main hall was filled with people dressed in their finest, engaged in conversation and laughter.
"Ah, this is a rich human party," Gastone stated as he scanned the room and searched for familiar faces.
"Gastone!" A typical voice called out, pulling Gastone back to the present. He turned to see Daniel striding towards him with a broad smile. "You made it! I was beginning to wonder if you’d change your mind."
Gastone forced a smile. "Wouldn’t miss it for the world, Daniel. You throw the best parties in the city."
Daniel chuckled, clapping Gastone on the back. "Flattery will get you everywhere. Come, there are some people I’d like you to meet."
As Daniel led Gastone through the crowd, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia. He was here, surrounded by luxury and opulence, the same feeling when he was still a royal.
A smile appeared on Gastone’s lips as he started to enjoy the party.
"Oh, you look cute when u have a relaxing facial expression," Daniel stated after seeing Gastone’s smile.
"Stop it, that’s a weird thing to say," Gastone grimaced and shook his head in disbelief.
Daniel introduced Gastone to the guests, and they exchanged pleasantries. Some were nice, but most of them thought highly of themselves.
’I wonder if they all part of the human meat business,’ Gastone thought as he talked to them. It wasn’t long before he excused himself to get some fresh air.
Gastone found his way to the balcony, the cool night breeze a welcome relief from the stuffy atmosphere inside. The city lights twinkled in the distance, and for a moment, Gastone allowed himself to unwind.
"Lucia is still not here," Gastone whispered. He had been searching for her but couldn’t smell her scent nearby.
Gastone engulfed much air to calm his nerves, but his peace was short-lived. The sound of footsteps made him tense, and a familiar, awful smell came from behind him.
"Ah, I never guessed we see each other sooner than I thought," a voice spoke from behind.
Gastone turned to see a woman approaching, her figure silhouetted against the light from the party. Though he couldn’t see her face clearly, he knew who she was.
"Gastone, right?" the woman said with a soft smile. "I’ve heard about you."
"You!" Gastone exclaimed upon seeing the mysterious she-wolf. "Why are you here?"
"Isn’t that obvious?" the woman replied with a shrug.
Gastone frowned, glancing at Daniel’s figure mingling with the crowd. "Who are you?"
They stood in silence for a moment, the distant hum of the party fading into the background. The woman leaned against the balcony railing, her gaze fixed on the garden below.
"Seeing that you’re here. I believed you are part of Daniel’s business," the woman replied. She turned his body toward Gastone and stared at him from top to bottom. "You don’t look that bad."
Gastone felt his blood boil at how carefree the woman was with him. He stepped closer and let out a low growl.
"Who are you?" Gastone asked firmly. His eyes bore at the woman, and he let his wolf emerge to threaten her.
"You don’t need to be that aggressive, pup—" the woman couldn’t continue her words when Gastone grabbed hold of her neck, pressing them tightly.
"You already know mine. Stop being a b^tch and tell me who you are before I snap your neck into two," Gastone tightened his grip to show how serious he was.
The woman’s eyes widened, but she didn’t struggle against Gastone’s grip. Instead, she stared back at him with a calmness that only deepened his suspicion. Her lips curled into a small, almost taunting smile.
"Impressive," the woman whispered, her voice strained under the pressure on her throat. "But if you wanted to intimidate me, you’ll have to try harder."
Gastone’s grip tightened, his electric-blue eyes blazing with barely controlled fury. "I’m done playing games. Who are you, and what’s your connection to Daniel?"
The woman’s smile didn’t falter, even as her breath became more labored. "You’re making a mistake," she rasped. "But... I’ll tell you... if you let me breathe."
Gastone hesitated, his instincts telling him to snap her neck right then and there, but his need for answers won out. He slowly loosened his grip, allowing the woman to gasp for air. She coughed, rubbing her throat, but her eyes never left his.
"Thank you," the woman said, her voice hoarse but still carrying that same unshakable confidence. "And here I thought you’re a chill guy."
Gastone snarled. "Start talking."
The woman straightened, smoothing out the wrinkles in her dress as if she hadn’t just been inches from death. "I’m also part of the same world Daniel is involved in. But unlike him, I don’t play by the same rules."
