Chapter 69: Chapter 69- Maverick
ZARAH~
Saturday morning, I placed the plate in front of him and a happy smile lit up his face.
"Thank you, mommy." He said happily as he began to eat the breakfast I had made him, my eyes remained on him, watching every move he made with a growing smile on my face.
"What do you wanna do after this?" I asked, wanting to spend the entirety of my day in his presence.
"Emmmm, I was planning to go play with Josh." He answered with food still I’m his mouth, Josh was one of his friends in the neighborhood and he would usually come around so he and Elliott could go to the park. Honestly, I was a little saddened.
"Oh," I said then began rethinking my plans for today when he called me.
"Mommy." He said, his voice is soft and gentle, I looked at him and leaned down so we were on the same eye level.
"Yes, my little prince," I replied.
"Can you—Can you—teach me how to talk to him?" He asked shyly, I immediately knew who he was talking about so I stood up straight and said.
"Of course baby, when you get back from the park," I said then picked up his now empty plate and walked to the sink.
"Mommy." He called again, I turned my head to him and gave him a hundred percent of my attention.
"Yes."
"Can we do it now?" He asked softly, my smile widened to the point my cheeks began to hurt. I never wanted to be one of those mothers obsessed with their kids but sadly I became one and I would enjoy every second of it till he no longer needed me.
"Sure, Let’s go to the backyard," I said as I carried him up from the stool he sat on and walked out of the kitchen into the vacant space I called my backyard.
The fence was high, high enough that no one would be able to see what we were doing so I was thankful cause I didn’t want anything that could ripple the peaceful life I had built.
"Ok let’s see." I said as I put him down and gently pinched his chubby cheeks "Have you given him a name?" I inquired.
"No." He replied as he shook his head, I smiled warmly.
"Ok, we’ll start from there." His clear green eyes flickered with excitement, and for a moment I almost mistook him for his father, no, they were nothing alike, my son was an improvement on him in every way imaginable.
"What name do you think fits him?" I asked, he thought about it for a moment.
"Well, he has green eyes like me, but his fur is Golden, Emmmm." He dragged on obviously having a hard time coming up with the name so I decided to help, I knelt in front of him and held his small soft hands in mine.
"Do you wanna know how I named Nala?" I asked, and he nodded enthusiastically.
"Well at first I was having a lot of trouble but then I just closed my eyes and pictured her and the first name that popped into my head became her name."
"So I should just pick a random name."
"No." I chuckled "Pick a name that you think fits him well."
"Ok, let me try." He closed his eyes and focused "Green eyes, golden fur, small teeth—" He mumbled then slowly opened his eyes "Maverick, his name is Maverick." He said softly, I squeezed his hands gently.
"That’s a perfect name my little prince." I said with an uncontrollable smile "So now that you’ve given him a name, let’s try and call him out."
"Ohk." He enthused, and I stepped back.
"What wakes you up from sleep in the morning?"
"My alarm." He answered.
"But the alarm didn’t wake you up today right?" I asked with a soft chuckle.
"Well—I didn’t wake up because I knew I didn’t have to go to school." He answered shyly.
"Good, That’s exactly how it is with your friend."
"How?"
"You’re gonna be an alarm that wakes him up, but if there isn’t a reason to wake up, he won’t." I made sure to keep my tone soft so I wouldn’t confuse him even though I knew he could understand me with no problem.
"So he’s not gonna come out unless I need him for something important?" He asked sadly.
"Well—it depends on what you mean by important." I answered "For example, Nala only comes out when I need protection or need to protect something. Cause that’s my definition of important."
"So by important, I could mean playing with me?" He asked happily, I couldn’t hold back the amused chuckle that escaped my lips.
"Of course my little prince," I said as I ruffled his hair, his cute smile curved his small lips as he nodded and took a step back.
"Close your eyes and give the command," I said.
"What command?"
"The sound of your alarm clock ringing is what wakes you up right?"
"Yes."
"The command is like the ringing sound, So close your eyes, picture him, and give him a command," I instructed, he nodded and closed his eyes. He was quiet for a few seconds before he opened up his eyes and they were glowing, his green eyes now looked like emeralds as the glow intensified their beauty.
"Maverick, Wake up." He says quietly and immediately his transformation began, golden fur began to extend from the tiny hairs on his body, and his bones began to rearrange till he had completely turned into a wolf.
"Awwwwwwn." I couldn’t help myself as I patted the head of the tiny cub "Hey Maverick." I cooed and continued petting its soft fur, It shifted back from me and began yipping excitedly as it ran circles around me. I giggled at the sweet little things that kept running around excitedly, jumping off objects that were around the space without trouble, I was filled with an immense sense of pride. After a few minutes, he stopped and ran towards me and jumped into my arms, knocking me over but I held onto him, happily lifting him into the air.
"My perfect little prince." I admired it when I heard the loud ringing of my doorbell.
