Chapter 70: Chapter 70- Get Out

ZARAH~

I ignored the sound of the doorbell as I continued to watch Maverick who just jumped around excitedly, running back and forth, without direction and occasionally tripping over his own tiny feet which made me chuckle.

Not hearing the sound of the doorbell again I thought the person had left but I couldn’t have been more wrong, contrary to my previous thoughts, the doorbell rang but this time the person didn’t take their hand off the button and instead just let it blare continuously, making it impossible to ignore.

I scrunched up my face in annoyance as I stomped to the door that led back into the house but stopped and turned back to look at Maverick who wasn’t paying the slightest attention to me as he chased a butterfly that had just entered into the backyard. He reminded me more of a cute puppy than a fearsome wolf.

I looked around and made sure there weren’t any sharp objects that could harm him while I was away then turned my attention to the fence, I looked at him and looked at the height of the fence, there was no way he could cross it. A smile curved my lips as I waved at him and walked into the house. I stomped angrily to the entrance wanting to know who it was that was disturbing me with their relentless use of my doorbell, I didn’t even look through the peephole to see whoever it was as I swung open the door and began to curse.

"What the fuck is wrong with y—" I stopped as I saw the surprise on his familiar face.

"Jere?" I asked in disbelief, he smiled awkwardly.

"Hey, Ze," Jermaine answered softly, I felt my previous anger disappear without a trace as I rushed into his embrace and hugged him tightly.

"Jere." I repeated, my voice filled with emotion as I tightened my hold on him "I missed you." I whispered into his ears.

"Missed you too Ze." He replied, I missed being called that, only he and one other person called me that and I thoroughly missed it. I finally let go of him and allowed him into my house, he looked around and smiled.

"You got a really nice crib." He commented as he sat on one of my sofas, I sat on the one across from him and hugged a pillow.

"Did you expect less or more?"

"I don’t know honestly, I’m just glad you’re ok." He replied with a warm smile, it had been ages since I had someone who wasn’t Micheal or Nancy in my living and even the former was a rare case so I was glad.

"I am.", He smiled on hearing my words and then sat up

"So, how did you accomplish all this in six years?" He asked with a small smile still on my lips, I thought for a bit and realized he was actually right, I had accomplished a lot, maybe it was little to some people but to someone who came to the human sector with nothing but the clothes she wore, it was.

"I guess I had a lot riding on me becoming who I needed to be," I answered with a chuckle, he smiled knowingly.

"You had to give him a better life." He said, revealing the fact that he knew about Elliott.

"How do you know about him?"

"Come on Ze." He replied as if I had asked an obvious question "I’m in your house and we haven’t talked in 8 years."

"And three months." I corrected

"And three months and your question isn’t how did I find you."

"True. I guess I don’t really care ’cause I’m just glad you’re here." I replied, tightening my hold on the pillow as I spoke. He smiled softly and leaned into the sofa.

"I’m glad I’m here too." He repeated. I cozy smile curved my lips as I stood up "And to ease your mind, I’ve been keeping tabs on you from the moment I was able to." I smiled realizing he was still as overprotective as he had been.

"Do you want coffee?" I asked as I walked to the entrance of the passage, he nodded as he stood up and followed me.

The steam wafted above the cup as I poured in the deep brown coffee.

"Why would you do that to yourself?" Jermaine asked jokingly as he watched me pick up my cup and sip my pure coffee while he continued adding sugar into his.

"What?, I like it this way." I laughed.

"If you say so." He replied as he raised his cup and took a sip "Mhmm, that’s good." He let out a satisfied moan, I smiled as I put down the cup and walked to the door to check on Maverick, to no surprise he was still running around the backyard causing me to smile uncontrollably.

"Wow." Jermaine exclaimed quietly "And I thought his dad was gifted." He continued, my stomach churned as I stepped away from the door and looked at him, he immediately noticed the look of detestation on my face.

"Sorry, didn’t mean to bring him up." He immediately apologized and then sipped his coffee, I smiled.

"It’s ok," I assured them as I took a seat on one of the stools beside the one he sat on, I wanted to ask how he knew Damon was the father but he had already given me the answer.

"Do you talk to him?" I asked, not sure why I even wanted to know.

"Yeah, I’m kinda staying with him now." He answered.

"You’re joking?" I asked, hoping he was telling me a stupid joke.

"Nah."

"After the shit he did?" I snapped, getting angry at him.

"I know, But I couldn’t hold on to that anger forever Ze and neither can you." He explained.

"Anger?" I asked feeling almost insulted "I hate him." I spat.

"And who is that helping? Your son needs his father."

"The only thing my son needs is ME," I replied sternly.

"If moms could do all the work, boys wouldn’t have daddy issues Ze." He argued.

"How dare you," I said.

"Ze—"

"Don’t call me that, you come into my home. I invite you into my home!" I emphasized, my anger starting to become increasingly evident as I spoke.

"Listen to yourself, are you hearing how you sound Ze?"

"Get out," I ordered.

"What?" He asked with surprise.

"I said get the fuck out, you come here with a smile on your face and advocate for that bastard l, Get the fuck out." His face twisted with hurt as nodded and put down the cup.

"A’ight," I said as he turned around and walked out of the kitchen, I followed behind him till he got to the door of the entrance, he held the handle but paused and turned around.

"Call me if you wanna talk." He said then placed a card in the hand of the sofa and left. I looked through the window and watched him enter his car and drive off.

"Fuck!!" I screamed as I curled up beside the door and held my head in my hands, fighting back the tears that threatened to burst out.

"Mommy." I heard Elliott’s soft voice, I raised my head and looked at him.

"Hey, my little prince," I replied, spreading my arms to welcome him into my embrace.

"Are you ok?" He asked, worry filling his voice.

"Of course I am." I replied as I kissed his forehead and hugged him tighter "Of course I am." I repeated.
