Chapter 50: Chapter 50- NO

DAMON~

"Leave." He growled but I refused I came closer to him and locked my eyes on his, He wanted to scare me but I honestly couldn’t care less, I left here with an alliance in a coffin but I couldn’t leave empty-handed.

"Make me," I said calmly, he snarled loudly, his eyes glowing as if ready to tear off my head but I remained strong, regardless of my ailment I was an Alpha, he stepped back, and after a few seconds of blanky staring at me he burst into laughter.

"You’re lucky you know, if you had shown the slightest bit of weakness you and your little beta over there would be dead," Leo said as he sat back down, only after he had settled back down did I realize I had been holding my breath.

"You’re strong Damon." He praised "You’ll probably be able to give me a run for my money if you were at your best."

"What makes you think I’m not at my best?"

"No need to pretend Damon, I can smell the imperfections in you." He answered as he picked up an apple and bit into it, I didn’t know if he was just bluffing or if he could smell it but it was an insignificant detail.

"So, You need my help."

"Not just yours." Carlos corrected, he shot him a look and Carlos took a cautious step back, the alert in Carlos’s eyes made it clear how dangerous he thought Leo was.

"Your bodyguard talks a lot." He said Carlos tensed up, taking another cautious step backward, to be honest, I had never seen Carlos like this, and even though he hid it behind caution he was scared of the man in front of us.

"Beta not bodyguard." I corrected.

"Executioner not killer, it’s all the same just having fancier names." Leo mocked, my jaw tightened but I remained calm.

"We need the help of the Thravasi," I said.

"Why?, for as long as I can remember Howlcreek has been the strongest pack in existence."

"Well—" I was about to explain when he rudely interrupted.

"Oh, is there another pack that poses a threat to the great Howlcreek?" he asked with an amused voice, My stomach turned.

"Not exactly—"

"You need our help so you won’t get wiped out." The amusement in his voice had gone up to a point where it felt like blunt mockery.

"Not exactly."

"Are you sure?"

"We didn’t come here to be mocked or insulted, we came here to ask for assistance," I said calmly, and immediately the smile on his face died and he became serious.

"You’re right, My apologies." He said with a small bow "Unfortunately though, this isn’t an endeavor that interests me or my people."

"Your people will be honored to fight alongside members of Howlcreek," Carlos interjected, he raised a brow as he turned his head to Carlos.

"The same Howlcreek who needs their help or a different one.", Carlos ground his teeth in frustration as he stepped forward and sat beside me.

"I wish you good luck, but we won’t join Howlcreek to fight, the odds are already in your favor, if we joined there won’t be anything to give my people a good fight so with all due respect, I think it’s time you leave," Leo said calmly.

He stood beside us, his gigantic body shading us from the sun as we waited in the open space where the helicopter was meant to come and pick us up. The sound of the helicopter sounded from afar and thanks to our incredible hearing we could hear it slowly coming towards us even though we couldn’t see it yet.

"It’s a shame though," Leo said abruptly, I turned my head to him not understanding what he was talking about.

"What is?" I asked

"I would have loved to fight alongside you." He answered with his eyes focused ahead.

"You say it like you can’t," Carlos said, he turned his head to Carlos but all he did was chuckle before turning his head back, the helicopter had finally entered our line of sight.

"I would have loved to fight alongside you too," I said as the helicopter hovered over us and the ladder was thrown down, he held it steady and then turned to me.

"I wish you good fortune in wars to come." He said with a slight smile curving his dark lips, I nodded in response and climbed up the ladder with Carlos following closely behind me.

——

For the entirety of the helicopter ride to the airport, Carlos had been silent, he just kept looking at his arms as if they belonged to someone else, even after we boarded the plane he remained deathly silent, I tried to ignore it and act as if the quiet didn’t bother me but after a couple of hours of being alone with my own thoughts I couldn’t take it anymore so I turned to him and asked.

"What’s wrong?", and for the first time since we had left Thravasi he looked at me.

"Alpha." He said, his voice quiet and shaky, I followed his line of sight and my eyes landed on his arms, that was when I noticed that his hands were trembling, even though it was slight they were still trembling, I shifted my eyes from his arms and looked back at him, there was this look in his eyes, I couldn’t describe it, it wasn’t fear and it wasn’t wondering but it made my body shiver.

"What’s wrong?" I asked.

"I—I—I was scared." He stammered as he clenched his fist to try and stop his hands from shaking but it was wasted cause the shaking persisted.

"That’s normal though."

"Not like this, When I’m facing a wolf I’m always scared that I might get hurt or injured but when he was in front of me all I could think about was how if he decided to attack us, I wouldn’t be able to anything about it.", I wanted to say something to comfort him but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel the same thing when he stood before me.

"Then all we can be is thankful he isn’t our enemy," I said with a sigh as I turned my head and looked through the small window of the plane, Focusing on the clouds and the dim sky was all I could do to stop myself from thinking about how bad it would have been if he had decided to attack us.
