Chapter 28: Chapter 28- Words Of A Weak Man

CARLOS~

I ran and ran, the soles aching from the pain of my blistered feet as I stepped on the harsh grounds of the forest, but, I couldn’t stop moving, if I stopped for even a second they would catch up and it would be the end of my life so I kept on running through the forest.

I skipped over puddles and fallen branches, I avoided anything that could slow me down but as my terrible luck would have it my toe smashed into a stone in the ground and I crashed down onto the floor and rolled down the tilted grounds till the side of my body aggressively slammed into the base of a tree, halting my movement and leaving me writhing in pain.

I tried to get back on my feet and continue my escape but as I raised my head my eyes immediately met with one of their blood-lusting eyes, it was already too late, they had surrounded me, their gigantic bodies blocking any chance for an exit as the three of them slowly walked towards me.

"Please," I begged as they stalked closer to me, my body shivered with fear as I cautiously stepped back till my back hit the tree, there was nowhere to go, nowhere to run so I pulled out a small knife that I had taken with me when I had evaded them at first, they had effortlessly taken down my parents, their own kind simply because they were a higher rank, at this moment I cursed my existence cause I know my resistance was futile, one snap of their jaws and I’ll be dead but I would not die that was, I’d die fighting, I’d die inflicting pain unto those who wanted to kill me.

"Come at me, you bastards!" I shouted, holding the knife firmly in my shaky hands, The one in the middle stepped forward growling with drool dropping out of the corners of its mouth as it stepped closer, its deep brown eyes fixed on me as it opened its wide mouth revealing it’s blood stained teeth then it jumped towards me, I stood my ground ready for whatever was to come when something speedily slammed into it, sending it flying into a tree, I looked at what had just saved me and in front of me stood the largest wolf I had ever seen, the other two began to cry out for their fallen companion before they rushed towards it but ready to attack but unfortunately for them, they didn’t stand a chance, I watched as my savior ripped then both apart with ease till all that remained of them was a bloody puddle. I watched with wide eyes as his transformation began to reverse and it slowly turned back into a man, but it wasn’t a man, it was a boy my own age.

"Are you ok," he asked, offering me a hand, I took it and rose to my feet.

"I am," I answered still stunned by what I had just witnessed, he smiled.

"I’m Damon, what’s your name?"

"Car—Carlos," I replied.

PRESENT DAY

The car’s tires came to a screeching halt as we got to the headquarters of Howlcreek, as I twisted the key to turn off the engine of the car I heard him release a deep sigh, every day since he found out he was sick he would give in to despair a little bit more, it was hard to watch the who meant so much to a place I had made my home fall deeper into the depths.

"Before this I could honestly say that nothing scared me, now look at me," he said.

"You once told me that fear was an expression of ones value for their own life." I said reminding him I’d him of his own words.

"I thought so too, it doesn’t feel that way though."

"What way?"

"I doesn’t feel I value my life, all it feels like is fear and all I am is a man terrified of his inevitable end, weak that’s all I am." He answered.

"Being scared doesn’t make you weak."

"That’s what weak men say," he responded dully.

"Do you remember the day we met?" I asked abruptly, he turned to me and after a few seconds of silence, he answered.

"If course I do."

"No you don’t." I immediately disagreed "I had already given up hope, nothing else mattered to me, all I wanted to do was to put my knife into one of them as they tore me apart because I didn’t want to give up without a fight, that’s what I thought, I thought I would have been ok dying like that but the amount of relief I felt when you came and saved me made me realize, I wasn’t ready to die." I said calmly.

"What’s your point?"

"You saved me and even though I can’t save you I won’t let you give up on your life."

"I don’t have a choice." I said with a sad and defeated voice, I hated the sound, it made me sick to my stomach.

"You do, Make amends."

"I tried."

"You didn’t!, you broke into her house with the people that tormented her when she was younger, what did you expect!" I shouted "Did you think she’d welcome the idea of you in her life? I saw the way you treated her and I understand it came from a place of anger but it wasn’t an excuse." I scolded sternly.

"But—"

"No buts!, you are a man who owns up to his mistakes, my Alpha is a man who owns up to his mistakes. That man who treated her like that, that wasn’t my Alpha, So introduce her to my Alpha, Cause this man sitting next to me isn’t him." I said as I opened the door and stepped out slamming it close, I began walking away when I realized something, quickly I rushed back to the car and opened the door.

"I apologize for the tone, Alpha," I said, he looked at me and chuckled.

"It’s all right, I needed to hear it, Thank you."
