Alpha Damon's Greatest Regret -
Chapter 117- Kidnapped
Chapter 117: Chapter 117- Kidnapped
Zarah’s pov
I expected that the car ride would be safe. An easy journey. With his tiny hands clutching my arm Elliot sat next to me and bounced enthusiastically.
Excitement glistened in his wide blue eyes. "Do you think Uncle Damon will like me?" He asked.
Despite the shiver of uneasiness running up my spine I forced a smile.
"Yes, of course, baby."
Elliot was so excited, I hadn’t seen him this excited before.
We took the train first then a bus before we took a taxi and the ride seemed like forever.
The car was filled with an odd tension. I told myself that I was simply thinking too much.
Perhaps my anxiety was simply related to seeing Damon after all these years. However, I had a gut feeling that something was off.
The car jerked to a stop after that. Instinctively I seized Elliot and held him tight. Mom hardly responded.
She remained composed as she rearranged her purse on her lap.
" What’s wrong?" I asked in a cautious tone. With a sigh, the driver wiped his face. "Car issues. Stay indoors. I’ll take care of it."
Getting out he raised the hood. I had stopped listening to the engines hissing and sputtering.
Something didn’t feel right. It was too quiet. The typical sounds of nature such as rustling leaves and chirping birds had disappeared. It was silent.
Then I heard it.
A guttural low snarl. I felt uneasy. My arms automatically grew tighter around Elliot. He looked up at me perplexed, his little fingers gripping my sleeve.
Then another growl and yet another. The tree’s shadows shifted. The hair stood up on the back of my neck.
They entered the clearing after that.
Rogue wolves.
Their red eyes stared at me as they slunk forward. Their muscles were tense, coiling like springs that were about to break. Fear swept over me. My breath came quickly and in short spurts.
I turned to Rhoda and impatiently whispered Mom.
She remained indifferent. She didn’t even appear startled. My veins flooded with dread.
With my voice trembling I tried again. "Mom?" she gave me a cold look and I knew this might be a trap
Before I could respond, before I could even breathe a hard object struck the side of my head, and pain exploded through my body.
I reached for Elliot in a panic but the world whirled around and then. Darkness.
It was the sunlight from the tiny window that made me wake up and as I tried to move pain protested through me and I realized to my horror that I was bound in both hands and feet.
My body felt stiff and powerless.
There was duct tape covering my mouth when I tried to scream.
Fear swept through me
My breathing was shallow and rapid as I thrashed against the ropes.
Elliot wasn’t here. Please tell me where my son is.
I twisted around wildly searching the darkened room, tears burning in my eyes. My baby wasn’t here. A strangled muffled cry of desperation escaped my throat.
I tried to untie myself and then
It squeaked open.
I stopped. Rhonda was the first to enter. Mark was right behind her. My blood became frozen.
Mark. A man I never trusted. A man who had always been too close to Damon’s adversaries. However, I wasn’t broken by the sight of him
I was startled, pain and shock traveled through my eyes as Mom smiled at me.
My chest became so tight.
"I told you she’d wake up soon." Mom said in a smooth voice as if it were any other day.
Mark had a sly smile. "She appears surprised."
I was taken aback. No, I was shattered. It was my mom. The mother who brought me up. Who had comforted me during my childhood tears? Who declared her love for me. She had done this too. With muffled sobs tearing from my throat, I shook my head.
The weight of betrayal weighed heavily on my chest.
As if to brush my hair back, Rhonda knelt down and reached out. I squirmed.
Her face became stern.
"Zarah, stop being so surprised."
I let my tears fall down my cheeks as I screamed against the tape. . . "Oh stop" She rolled her eyes and sighed.
"You truly believe I was going to allow you to ruin everything?
*What?
Ruin?
Arms crossed Mark leaned against the wall.
"Damon is too powerful, too intelligent. But he does however have a weakness."
His eyes shone brightly. "You."
I exhaled. I gave it a wild shake of my head desperate, to resist it, to deny it.
"And we have you now because of your dear mother," Mark added, "and your son, Elliott."
As I struggled against the restraints my body twisted and I screamed behind the tape, a sound of pure devastation ripped from my throat.
Rhonda uttered a tongue click.
"Calm down. He is alright. "
Alright? She had taken my child, her grandson from me.
My vision became blurry with anger and fear and my breaths came in sharp short gasps. Rhonda gave a sly smile.
"By the way, I received my money. for bringing Elliot and you together." She looked over at Mark. "Now when will I receive the remaining balance?"
The room whirled.
Payment?
She had deceived us
Mark shrugged.
"After Damon enters our trap."
Damon?
I wasn’t the only one involved. They were pursuing him as well. Though he wasn’t there, I shook my head angrily in an attempt to think of something.
Mark was crouching in front of me tightly holding my chin. My skin was pricked by his fingers.
" Stop worrying," he whispered.
"You will soon see him."He then smiled. "Just before his death. "
My heart skipped a beat and tears rolled down my cheeks.
I let out a cry of cold terror but the tape muffled it and it tore from my throat. I had to get away. My son needed to be saved. And I needed to warn Damon before it was too late.
