Chapter 109: Sophie Meijer 2

Benjamin turned quickly, his eyes narrowing at the figure leaning against the doorway.

Adam stood there with his arms crossed, and his expression a mix of amusement and exasperation.

"Am I interrupting something?" Adam asked, his tone casual but laced with a teasing edge.

His gaze shifted between the two, lingering on Sophie’s overly bright smile and Benjamin’s stiff posture.

Benjamin relaxed slightly, though the tension didn’t entirely leave his frame. "No," he replied, his voice calm but carrying an undertone of irritation. "Just meeting your... ’friend’ here."

Adam raised a brow, his lips quirking into a smirk. "Ah, Sophie," he said, his tone light but pointed. "I see you’ve made yourself comfortable."

Sophie, unbothered, gave a cheerful wave. "Just saying hi to your roommate," she chirped, her grin never faltering. "He’s even nicer in person."

Adam’s smirk widened as he stepped further into the room, his eyes flicking to Benjamin. "She’s a handful, isn’t she?"

Benjamin didn’t respond immediately, his gaze shifting briefly to Sophie, who still looked as though she had done nothing remotely unusual.

Finally, he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You could’ve mentioned she’d be around," he said, his tone clipped.

Adam shrugged, clearly unbothered. "Didn’t think it was a big deal," he said before glancing at Sophie again. "But maybe next time, don’t corner him for selfies before I get a chance to warn him, yeah?"

Sophie pouted playfully. "Where’s the fun in that?"

"And by the way," Adam continued, his smirk turning into a full-blown grin, "she’s no friend of mine. She’s my cousin—from my dad’s side."

He leaned casually against the doorframe and said in a light but teasing tone. "They’re a little nuts over there, so don’t mind her."

Benjamin blinked at the unexpected revelation, his initial irritation softening into mild amusement. A low chuckle escaped his lips, and he shook his head, finally relaxing his stance.

Sophie gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her chest as if she’d been gravely insulted. "Excuse me?" she shot back, her mock outrage evident.

With an exaggerated scowl, she marched up to Adam and gave him a light slap on the arm. "You’re just jealous because I’m the fun one," she retorted, sticking her tongue out at him like a mischievous child.

Adam winced theatrically, rubbing his arm as though she’d done real damage. "See what I mean?" he said, glancing at Benjamin with a raised brow. "Nuts."

Benjamin chuckled again, the tension in the room fully dissolving. Sophie’s antics and Adam’s playful banter made the earlier awkwardness feel like a distant memory.

Sophie crossed her arms, and her pout deepened further. "Well, if you’re done ruining my image," she huffed, "I’ll just be in the living room... being my amazing self."

She shot Benjamin a quick grin and winked at him before flouncing out of the kitchen, her damp hair bouncing with each step.

Adam shook his head, laughing softly as he turned back to Benjamin. "Sorry about her," he said, his tone genuine. "She’s harmless, though. Just likes to mess with people."

Benjamin shrugged, a faint smile still tugging at his lips. "I’ve noticed," he replied, glancing toward the living room where Sophie had disappeared.

Adam chuckled, pushing off the doorframe and heading toward the fridge. "So, what do you think?" he asked as he rummaged through the shelves, pulling out a bottle of water.

"About what?" Benjamin replied, still leaning against the counter.

Adam twisted the cap off the bottle and gave him a knowing look. "About Sophie. She’s... a lot, right?"

Benjamin exhaled slowly, running a hand over his face. "That’s one way to put it," he said, his voice laced with mild exasperation. "You could’ve warned me before I walked into that circus."

"Where’s the fun in that?" Adam teased, mimicking Sophie’s earlier line as he took a long sip.

Benjamin rolled his eyes but couldn’t help the small smirk that tugged at his lips. "She’s definitely got a huge personality, though" he remarked, innuendo lacing his words but Adam failed to grasp it, so he continued. "But maybe next time, let her know breaking and entering isn’t the best first impression."

Adam laughed, the sound echoing in the kitchen. "Yeah, I’ll make sure to pass that along. Though, to be fair, she probably thought I’d already told you she’d be staying over."

Benjamin raised a brow. "Staying over?"

Adam nodded casually, leaning against the counter. "Yeah, just for a couple of weeks. She’s visiting... well not actually visiting. Her modeling job brought her here from Amsterdam and she didn’t want to crash at a hotel. Figured she’d hang here instead."

"And you didn’t think to run that by me?" Benjamin asked, crossing his arms.

Adam shrugged, his grin unapologetic. "You’re always cool about stuff. Didn’t think it’d be an issue."

Benjamin sighed, shaking his head. "Next time, a heads-up would be nice. I don’t need surprises like this before a big game."

Adam’s expression softened slightly. "Fair point," he said, his tone less playful. "I’ll make sure to let you know next time."

They fell into a comfortable silence for a moment. Adam set his water bottle down and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the counter.

"So, what are your plans for today?" he asked, his tone lighter again.

Benjamin glanced at him, his shoulders relaxing. "Nothing much. Maybe I’ll laze around all day, play some games."

Adam raised a brow, his expression one of mock disbelief. "Woah! That’s unlike you. I was expecting something more along the lines of ’I’ll be doing some physical exercises before heading to the training complex for some ball work.’ You know, typical Ben stuff."

Benjamin smirked, shrugging one shoulder. "Man’s got to relax sometimes, right? Besides, our next opponent, Roda JC, is 16th on the table. Not exactly a team to lose sleep over."

Adam nodded, a thoughtful look crossing his face. "True, but PSV after that... now that’s a different story."

Benjamin’s gaze sharpened slightly, his competitive edge flickering to life. "Exactly. They’re the real challenge. I’ll step it up for them, but today..." He leaned back against the counter, crossing his arms loosely. "Today, I’m taking it easy."

Adam studied him for a moment before grinning. "Fair enough. But don’t get too comfy—my backup’s gonna whoop you at FIFA if you slack off."

Benjamin chuckled, pushing off the counter. "Sofie?!... You wish," he shot back, his tone light.

Adam laughed, grabbing his water bottle and heading toward the living room. "We’ll see about that, Golden Boy. Let’s go."
