Chapter 108: Sophie Meijer 1
Standing in front of him was a redhead, and her vibrant hair with beads of water was catching the light streaming in from the window.
She was dressed in a tank top and gym shorts, her attire leaving little to the imagination.
The toned lines of her torso and long legs were clearly visible, and for a moment, Benjamin blinked, trying to piece together the situation.
He hadn’t heard the door open, hadn’t felt a presence until now.
"Who are you?" Benjamin blurted out, his voice edged with confusion. His grip on the glass tightened slightly. "And how did you get in here?"
The woman didn’t flinch at his question. Instead, she tilted her head with a small smile, stepping into the kitchen like she belonged there.
"You must be Benjamin Richard, right? The new... Golden Boy in Alkmaar" she said with a smile tugged on her lips, her voice light and casual.
She took a couple steps closer with her eyes scanning him from head to toe, and then stopped a few feet away. With an outstretched hand, she added, "My name’s Sophie... Sophie Meijer."
Benjamin’s brows furrowed as he took a small step back. He glanced at her hand but made no move to shake it.
"Okaay, Sophie..." he said slowly, his tone laced with suspicion. "You still haven’t answered my question—how did you get in?"
Her hand lingered in the air for a beat longer before she dropped it, her smile unwavering.
"Oh, don’t worry about that," Sophie replied with a dismissive wave, as though breaking into someone’s apartment was the most natural thing in the world.
Benjamin’s eyes narrowed. His jaw tightened as he folded his arms across his chest. "Try me."
Her grin widened slightly, but she didn’t elaborate immediately. Instead, she leaned casually against the counter, her confidence almost unnerving.
"You’re not very trusting, are you?" she teased lightly, her eyes flicking to the glass of lemon water in his hand. "Maybe we should start over. How about you pour me one of those, and we have a proper chat?"
Benjamin didn’t move. His stance was firm, and his light-brown eyes locked on hers. "You’ve got thirty seconds to explain, or I’m calling the cops."
The light humor in her expression dimmed slightly, but she didn’t seem fazed. If anything, the challenge only seemed to amuse her further.
"Alright, alright," Sophie said, holding her hands up in mock surrender. "Don’t get all worked up. I’ll tell you everything—just not while you’re glaring at me like that. It’s intimidating, you know."
Benjamin didn’t budge, his silence pressing her to continue.
She sighed dramatically. "Fine. I’m a friend of Adam, and I came for a visit."
Benjamin blinked, her words sinking in. His gaze shifted briefly past her, toward the corridor leading to Adam’s room.
And then, it suddenly clicked. Her hair was partly damp with the loose strands clinging lightly to her skin—probably from a recent shower. And she’d been standing just outside Adam’s door when he heard her voice.
’She’s most likely his girlfriend,’ he concluded silently, and his grip on the glass loosened.
The pieces fit now. That explained her casual demeanor, her being here, and her seeming familiarity with the place.
’This obviously wasn’t the first time she had ’visited’ her ’friend’ Adam... But why didn’t that brat tell me anything.’ he thought to himself while shaking his head.
"Oh, okay," Benjamin replied after a moment, his tone neutral. He turned toward the kitchen, stepping past her to return his glass to the sink.
The sound of his footsteps on the tiled floor filled the silence, but it didn’t last.
Sophie followed behind him, and her movements were light, and almost playful. Benjamin glanced over his shoulder, sensing her presence close by.
She was trailing him with her hands clasped behind her back, and her head tilted slightly as if she were studying him.
He paused and turned fully with a questioning expression on his face, and she stopped just a step away. Her smile widened, and from behind her back, she brought out her phone.
"I’m a really big fan of yours," she declared, her voice carrying a mix of excitement and shyness. She held the phone up slightly, blinking her eyes which were sparkling with hope. "Can I take a selfie with you?"
Benjamin’s brows furrowed as he stared at her. ’Now this is getting weird,’ he thought.
The situation was starting to feel more like an approach with intent, rather than a casual visit to a ’friend’.
A fan? Adam’s friend? The lines were blurring.
But Sophie’s expression was so genuine, and so eager, that it left him with little room to outright refuse. After a brief pause, he let out a sigh, his shoulders relaxing slightly.
"...Okay," he said, the word coming out slowly.
Her face lit up instantly, her grin so wide it was almost contagious. She stepped closer, holding her phone at arm’s length and angling it to fit them both in the frame.
Benjamin stood still while offering a faint, reluctant smile.
As Sophie adjusted the camera angle, she shifted a little too close with her shoulder brushing against Benjamin’s arm. He stiffened slightly, caught off guard by the unexpected contact.
Then came the faintest sensation—two blobs of softness rubbing against his arm subtly yet impossible to ignore.
His brows knit together as he glanced down at the full tank top, trying to process what had just happened. It wasn’t intentional—or at least, she acted like it wasn’t.
Sophie seemed oblivious to Benjamin’s discomfort, and her cheerful demeanor remained unchanged as she focused on the screen of her phone.
Click!-Click!...
The shutters clicked, one after another, as she tilted her head for different angles.
"Perfect!" she chimed, flashing him another bright smile as she pulled the phone closer to inspect the photos.
Benjamin’s jaw tightened. His arms hung stiffly at his sides, and the furrow between his brows deepened.
’Does she even realize what she’s doing?’ he wondered, his thoughts spinning.
But Sophie only hummed in satisfaction, her eyes glued to the screen. "You look so good in these, don’t you think?" she asked, tilting the phone to show him.
Benjamin glanced at the photo briefly, then back at her, his expression unreadable. "Yeah... great," he muttered, his voice flat.
She didn’t seem to notice his tone. Instead, she tucked her phone into her pocket, still beaming. "Thanks, Benjamin! I’ll treasure these forever."
He nodded faintly, the corners of his lips twitching in an almost-smile.
"Cough-cough!"
The sudden sound of a deliberate cough broke the moment, startling them both.
