Chapter 488: Chapter 454: A Cat’s Life Is Not Easy! A Troubled Woman (3rd update)

"Meow."

As Chloe Stephens pondered, the black cat walked gracefully on the table.

It crouched in front of Chloe, and its one black and one purple eye stared steadily at her.

"What’s the matter?"

"Meow."

"I’m fine, and my cultivation has improved. You should cultivate well, too. Don’t come out if it’s not necessary."

"Meow..." The voice sounded somewhat resentful.

"The person we saw last time, I’ll find time to accompany you to see them again, but are you sure that’s the person you’re looking for?"

"Meow meow!"

"That person is from the Godfrey Family."

"Meow!"

"I can’t go to the Godfrey Family for now," Chloe glanced over casually, "You like Morgan Crowley, don’t you? I’ll send it to you."

"..." The black cat walked away with drooping ears, feeling wronged.

Chloe leaned back in her chair, gazing at the screen for a moment before shutting down the computer and going to sleep.

Just as she lay down, a noise came from outside. When she turned on the light, she saw a black shadow whiz by and disappear.

Chloe reached out and pulled the black cat out, her tone cold: "If you’re in heat, go find a female cat."

"...Meow."

The black cat’s eyes darkened.

Chloe threw the black cat away and turned off the light to sleep.

The black cat curled up quietly beside the blanket, its eyes fixated on the cold crescent moon outside the window.

No one knew how difficult its life as a cat had been.

If it weren’t for Chloe, it would have long been scattered to the wind.

Now.

It was bound together with Chloe.

On the day when Chloe dies, it will die as well.

It is said that a cat has nine lives, but it couldn’t even remember why it had lost its own nine lives.

The black cat turned to look at the soundly sleeping Chloe and drooped its head again dispiritedly.

The next day, at school.

Chloe got out of the car.

She followed the crowd inside.

Headteacher George Howard suddenly called out to Chloe: "Chloe Stephens, come with me."

Looking at George’s expression and the smile on his face, it didn’t seem like bad news.

Chloe followed George to the school office building, and they entered the reception room where several people were seated. The most eye-catching among them was a sexy and charming woman sitting by the side. In Chloe’s puzzlement, George introduced her: "Chloe, this is Miss Angela Dutton, the president of the National Chess Club."

It was obvious that this name was fake.

Angela smiled and removed her sunglasses, and stretched out a pair of delicate hands. She looked to be about twenty-three or four years old, but her hands were exceptionally delicate.

"Hello! I am Angela Dutton! I came to the First Middle School this time to meet you, the young prodigy. We’ve studied your chess skills, and you’re amazing!"

Chloe looked at the woman in front of her, her tone becoming even colder, "What do you want?"

"Well, we would like you to join the National Team and fight for the country..."

"Not interested."

"The prize money is very generous, are you sure you don’t want to consider it?" Angela asked with a beaming smile, baiting her.

But Chloe suddenly stared at Angela.

Angela was still smiling as she looked at her, waiting for her response.

"I refuse."

George was somewhat anxious for Chloe, "Chloe, if you join the National Team, you will get bonus points for the college entrance examination."

"Not necessary," Chloe still refused.

"Chloe, opportunities like this don’t come often. If you agree to join, I can apply for a condition from The Authority, and you can decide that condition!" Angela threw out another tempting offer.

Chloe’s eyes fell on Angela, remaining silent.

"Chloe, why don’t you go back and think about it first? Headteacher will talk to Miss Dutton," George quickly stepped forward and let Chloe return to the classroom first.

Angela’s smiling gaze swept over Chloe, and upon hearing George’s words, she nodded her head, "Such a decision, Chloe should think it over carefully."

Chloe nodded slightly to George and then left the office.

As soon as the girl left, Angela’s smiling eyes turned cold and dark.

When Chloe returned to the classroom and sat down, Abigail Wilson leaned over and whispered, "What did the headteacher want? Is everything all right?"

Usually, when someone is called out first thing in the morning, it’s not good news. Abigail was worried about Chloe.

Chloe shook her head: "It’s nothing."

Chloe leaned back in her chair, pondering slightly.

There was something unusual about this woman called Angela even before she entered the room.

Upon getting closer, Chloe had discovered some interesting things.

What was the other party’s real purpose in approaching her?

After school at noon, Chloe agreed to meet a few friends at the courtyard. Outside the school gate, she saw Angela getting out of a car and smiling as she nodded towards Chloe.

"Chloe, is she looking for you?" Ava Sanders couldn’t help but size up the woman.

"You guys go on."

With that said, Chloe walked towards Angela.
