Chapter 387: Chapter 360: Meeting Chloe Stephens, Accepting Fate (Part 2)
It was always Len Hawthorne who understood the Hawthorne Family members.
As soon as Leonard Hawthorne entered Sheffield City, Len’s people noticed.
Having just sent Chloe Stephens off to school and returned to the grand building, a team member hurried over to report, "Team Hawthorne, it seems a member of the Hawthorne family has entered Sheffield City."
"Is it my Tenth Uncle’s people?"
"It’s Leonard Hawthorne."
Len Hawthorne smiled bleakly.
"Leave him be."
"You can tell he’s here to stir up trouble, Team Hawthorne. We can’t back down."
Len Hawthorne glanced at him, "He’ll come straight to us, unnecessary contact won’t give us any advantage."
The team member grin, "I was being short-sighted. Team Hawthorne, you’re far-sighted!"
"Go on."
"On my way!"
Len Hawthorne laughed in annoyance.
Having shouldered this burden, he wondered what he would gain from it.
Ever since he met Chloe, the things he experienced, the things he did were all rather bizarre.
Thinking about it, he decided to accept his fate.
*
The Stephens family.
Nowadays, Adam Stephens was so busy that he did not even have time for meals, as was Alex Stephens.
Both of them had a lot more on their plate.
In the evening, upon returning home, Adam heard from Yvette Foster that Charlotte Richardson had visited and had a chat.
After listening to Yvette’s report, Adam frowned, "Why would Mother think of sending Chloe to the Stephens family’s private school?"
"Mother meant to say, our status is different now, and Chloe should start learning about the family’s etiquette and knowledge."
"Chloe doesn’t need to enter any Stephens family’s private school at all. Their curriculum, which encompasses the whole world, will put pressure on Chloe. I will explain this myself to Mother."
From the very beginning, Adam had no plans of sending his daughter to the damned private school of the Stephenses.
He knew exactly what was taught there.
Any slackness would invite pressure, be it learning ancient martial arts or common subjects, the competition was fierce.
"If you’re going to talk, then explain it properly to Mother," Yvette Foster was worried he would quarrel with Charlotte Richardson.
Adam nodded, looked around, "Has Chloe not finished her evening self-study period yet?"
"She should be back soon."
"I’ll go out and see," Alex Stephens got up and walked out.
Adam and Yvette moved to the sofa, "I’ve been quite busy recently and couldn’t manage your side as well, but don’t confine yourself at home."
"I’m fine cultivating at home," Yvette smiled faintly, "I don’t like going to banquets or cocktail parties either."
"Wait until I’m done with my business, then I’ll take you and Chloe out."
"Great!" Yvette agreed with a smile, "How’s Alex recently?"
"His progress is swift, he didn’t disappoint us, he is a good kid."
"If we had chosen him in the beginning, we wouldn’t have had so much trouble later."
"It’s in the past, don’t think about it anymore," Adam held her hand firmly.
Living like this was what Yvette had always dreamed of, she didn’t expect Alex to be excessively kind to them in the future, just decent treatment was enough.
*
Alex had walked a bit when he saw Chloe Stephens coming up the slope.
She stepped off the ride midway and walked home again.
"Father and Aunt Yvette are waiting for you."
"Yeah."
"You’re walking again."
"I feel more at ease with my feet on the ground."
"..."
"Has your cultivation progressed recently."
"..."
Why did he feel like he was being checked up on by a parent?
Chloe took out a new secret manual from her schoolbag, "Practice this next."
"Where did you get this?"
"I wrote it."
"Are you a walking martial-arts secret manual?"
The last one was also self-written, as was this one.
Alex really wanted to crack open her head to see how it was structured inside. How could the people of the Stephens family have ever considered her a fool?
No, many in the Stephens family currently still considered her useless.
"Tomorrow, you can continue practicing with the representative from the Fisher Family."
"I will try to find an opportunity."
Alex pinched the secret manual in his hand, walking beside her, and said, "Today, Granny came over and mentioned something, apparently she wants you to enter the Stephens family’s private school with everyone else."
"Not interested."
"Outside would be more fitting for you. The private school curriculum in the Stephens Family is too heavy."
And Chloe, seemed a bit lazy no matter how he looked at her.
Chloe nodded: "You’re right."
"I’ve been busy the past few days but I’ve found some time to study and cook some new dishes. Want to try them?"
Chloe paused for a moment, then said, "I can try."
"Want some fried rice?"
Chloe nodded.
"Can I bring some to school for you at noon tomorrow?"
"Alright."
As they spoke, they walked back home.
The scene was harmonious.
*
Adam Stephens went to find Charlotte Richardson in Building 2 early in the morning.
He didn’t sit.
As Charlotte was eating breakfast, he went straight to the point, "I heard you’re considering sending Chloe to a private school. We think Chloe would find a more relaxed learning environment outside."
Charlotte frowned slightly, "You now hold quite a few authority in the Stephens Family. As your daughter, she shouldn’t be too mediocre."
"Even if ordinary, she’s still our daughter. Mum, I don’t want Chloe to turn into an emotionless robot."
"Emotionless robot? I’m only trying to let her learn more. How can one afford to be complacent in a big family like the Stephens Family? Even with the same family background, the knowledge is different out there. If she goes out in the future and acts out, it will also be her making a fool of herself. Have you asked her opinion? If you can’t convince her, let her come to me, there are things I need to make clear to her."
Charlotte put down her bowl and looked at Adam, insisting that Chloe should join the private school of the Stephens Family.
Every family had a central education hub with top-notch professors invited to teach.
Seeing Charlotte’s insistence, Adam knew there was no point in further discussion.
He had just come to express his attitude, and then left.
*
At noon.
Alex Stephens prepared the dishes, put them in an insulated lunch box, and took them to school.
Just outside the school gate, Chloe saw him.
"You have a brother!"
Abigail Wilson looked at the handsome and upright youngster in front with a slightly red face.
They had met once before, and they all knew that Chloe had a brother.
Chloe went over.
"Get in the car, let’s find a quiet place to eat."
Alex nodded to Abigail Wilson, then opened the car door.
Alex had a cold and noble temperament, giving off an aloof aura when not smiling.
Abigail Wilson admired every move the young man made and intrusively didn’t follow them: "Chloe, I will go to the courtyard with others, I won’t disturb you."
Chloe nodded.
They really had to suffer a bit more.
"You seem to get along very well with your classmates."
"It’s okay."
"Do you want to go to the company or somewhere else?" Alex pointed to the lunchbox on the seat.
"Let’s find a park."
Alex then headed straight to the nearby park.
At the traffic light, a car suddenly pulled over.
Chloe glanced sideway, noticing a cold and handsome young man. It wasn’t quite right to refer him as a man though, he was probably about the same age as Alex, around twenty.
He suddenly looked over, then drove off as soon as the green light came on, without causing any conflict.
"What happened? Was there a problem with that car?"
"The license plate is from the Imperial Capital, and the Qi from that person seems somewhat familiar."
It was not much different from the Qi of the person she killed in Dark City that day.
"Indeed it’s a license plate from the Imperial Capital, so what’s wrong with that?"
"Nothing."
*
The two of them entered the park, found a quiet spot, and sat down to eat.
Chloe took a couple of bites of the fried rice, then nodded: "You’ve improved."
"You seem to really like eating fried rice."
Just as Chloe was going to speak, water and objects suddenly hurtled towards them.
Alex’s face changed, ready to gather the force in his hands when suddenly he realized there were ordinary people around them.
But the moment he relaxed his force, Chloe quickly dodged. The food on the stone table was completely spilled.
A few people were standing in front with a gloomy face. The leader was the man they encountered at the traffic light earlier.
He was taken aback.
