Chapter 355: Chapter 355: Encountering the Obstetrician from Those Years...Suspicious!
"You know Li Lingyang’s character. Once he learns the truth and realizes he’s been raising someone else’s child for so many years, don’t even think about Chengcheng inheriting the Li Family assets—he likely won’t even have a good ending!"
"Li Jingtian, for the sake of our child, you absolutely cannot let Ning Yichu discover the truth from back then!"
"..."
Li Jingtian had never expected Shen Jiangqing to be so audacious.
Cross-border arson and murder—she really has nerve!
Luckily, it’s not too late to resolve everything now.
"Give me the hospital’s address from back then—immediately. And provide me with every piece of information about the people involved in this situation!"
Shen Jiangqing didn’t dare hesitate and quickly agreed.
"I’ll arrange and send it to you right away, but you must ensure everything’s handled cleanly..."
"I don’t need you to remind me of that."
If this woman had confessed to him earlier, before Ning Yichu and Li Lingyang went to Reykjavik, he would’ve already dealt with those risky doctors!
...
At the Mo Manor’s villa.
In an incredibly awkward atmosphere, Ning Yichu finally finished the dinner.
Although Mo Baiyou kept trying his best to create a gentlemanly and pleasant atmosphere, knowing the true purpose of this dinner from the outset made Ning Yichu unable to fully relax.
It wasn’t until she left that place that she finally felt at ease.
The night breeze gently blew by, bringing a sense of relief to Ning Yichu’s expression.
Hoping to spend more time with her, Mo Baiyou suggested they walk back since it was just a matter of minutes.
"Thank you for joining me for dinner tonight. I believe the people at the manor have already informed my mother about the progress," said Mo Baiyou, his deep gaze accompanied by a smile.
Ning Yichu laughed lightly, tinged with helplessness. "But now, your mom will likely misunderstand our relationship even more. I honestly don’t know how to face her."
Between the lines, she was emphasizing their relationship was purely one of friendship.
Mo Baiyou responded casually, "Don’t worry; I’ll handle everything."
Skyscrapers lit up the city, a bustling urban landscape gleamed vividly in the scenic night.
Walking through the streets of this foreign land, they passed by a massive thermal springs plaza, crowded with Western faces: families, couples, and laughter echoing occasionally.
The streets were lively with people enjoying their evening stroll, moving back and forth.
"The environment here is pretty nice. Next time, we should invite Chen Bao and Ningning out for a stroll," suggested Mo Baiyou thoughtfully. "They’re always stuck in the hospital—it’s not good for them."
"Yeah, but those two little ones probably prefer staying in their room playing video games!"
Unless it’s about going out to have fun—a mere stroll? Forget it.
Right as Ning Yichu finished speaking.
She suddenly ran into a familiar foreign face!
A middle-aged man in a gray suit...
"Doctor Antony?" Ning Yichu called out tentatively.
The man in the gray suit paused in his steps upon hearing someone call him and lifted his gaze to meet Ning Yichu’s. He froze in shock.
"Lady Ning... Ning Yichu?"
Ning Yichu nodded and smiled. "Yes, Doctor Antony. I didn’t expect to encounter you here—just finished work?"
The man before her was none other than Antony, her primary doctor during her pregnancy.
Antony had been responsible for everything—from her prenatal checkups to anomaly scans to surgery arrangements.
Antony himself hadn’t expected to run into Ning Yichu here!!
Recalling the truth about five years ago, a flash of unease flickered in his eyes.
But thankfully, the night’s dim lighting and the backlight prevented Ning Yichu from noticing it.
"Yes, I just got off work. Didn’t you return to Hua Country recently? Why are you back here all of a sudden? How are the kids? Are they doing well?"
"Ningning hasn’t been in great health, so I brought her back here to recuperate. We’re also taking the chance to have some fun around."
Antony’s gaze shifted evasively. "Being a mother must be tough; you must have gone through so much, Lady Ning."
"Not at all. Having them both with me makes me feel blessed."
Ning Yichu paused. "But honestly, what happened back then was truly thanks to you. If not for you risking staying in the delivery room to perform the surgery, I wouldn’t merely have missed out on motherhood—my three lives might’ve been lost together."
When she arrived in Europe from the Imperial City, exhaustion from traveling and a lack of adequate care overwhelmed her as a pregnant woman.
During childbirth, she walked dangerously close to death’s door...
Thankfully, Doctor Antony defied opposition, determined the procedure, and saved both children.
Ning Yichu deeply appreciated him for that.
During important festivals in Reykjavik, she consistently sent messages to express her gratitude.
Thinking about the truth of those past events, Antony was suddenly consumed by guilt.
But on the surface, he carefully maintained an unaffected demeanor, smiling stiffly as he said, "It’s simply the duty of a doctor. You’re far too kind, Lady Ning. It’s late—I’ll let you continue enjoying your stroll with your friend while I head home!"
Over the years, his guilt had weighed heavily on him. Staying longer only made facing Ning Yichu harder.
"Alright, take care. Drop by for a visit when you have time," Ning Yichu said while watching his silhouette fade into the distance.
She was long accustomed to Antony acting reluctant to bring up the events of that time.
However, Mo Baiyou fixed his gaze on Antony’s retreating figure, his brows furrowed slightly.
"Chu Chu, when you gave birth back then, was it that doctor who saved you?"
Because Ning Yichu treated Mo Baiyou as one of her own, she truthfully recounted what had happened upon hearing his question.
"After delivering the babies, I was too exhausted and fell unconscious. When I woke up, the hospital floor was suddenly ablaze—the fire spread aggressively, and I barely escaped with the children..."
Chaos overwhelmed the scene as people scrambled to save themselves.
Fearing the loss of her and her children’s lives, Ning Yichu summoned her remaining strength to get them out.
"A fire? At which hospital?" Mo Baiyou pressed further.
Ning Yichu provided the name, then asked upon noticing his serious expression, "What’s wrong?"
"Reykjavik hospitals are known for their strict safety protocols—how could a fire break out without reason?"
"I had my doubts back then too. Could it have been intentional? But the surveillance footage showed a patient’s family member accidentally discarding an unextinguished cigarette butt, igniting the curtains..."
Mo Baiyou frowned lightly. "Did the authorities get involved?"
"Of course," Ning Yichu explained. "It was a major incident. After escaping, the hospital alerted the police, and the investigation confirmed the fire was purely accidental."
Mo Baiyou’s eyes darkened thoughtfully. "Was the person who discarded the cigarette butt caught?"
"Caught," Ning Yichu answered. "Though it was an accident, the consequences were severe enough for that family member to be detained temporarily and ordered to pay all damages."
With two newborns to care for, she hadn’t had time to delve deeper into the matter.
Mo Baiyou nodded slightly, but an imperceptible chill flashed in his eyes.
