Chapter 356: Chapter 356: Don’t You Want to Take Your Daughter?
"Because the story is made up," Sang Qiao could tell that her daughter was scared, so she reached out and hugged her tightly, her voice gentle.
"Oh, but I still feel a little bit scared," Si Tiantian’s eyes rolled around uncontrolled, inevitably looking toward the window.
The curtain wasn’t drawn, and it was pitch black outside the window at this moment, with the streetlight casting fuzzy shadows of trees, resembling a silhouette.
In the story, demons would snatch children from the windows, which made Si Tiantian even more scared.
"Mom, why aren’t the curtains drawn?"
"Too lazy to pull them." Sang Qiao then realized her curtains were still open.
"But I’m scared," Si Tiantian said weakly, her eyes fixated on the window.
"I’ll go pull them." Sang Qiao resignedly got up, drew the curtains, and turned on the desk lamp nearby, brightening the whole room with its light.
After doing these, Sang Qiao returned to bed, holding her daughter tight.
This time Si Tiantian could finally fall asleep peacefully.

The next morning, Si Tiantian got up early and went back to her own room to wash up.
Her father was also up early, but he wasn’t as enthusiastic as the day before, even ignoring her when he passed by.
Si Tiantian jogged over and grabbed her father’s hand, "Dad, why aren’t you paying attention to me?"
"It’s nothing. I was just about to go downstairs to make breakfast for you." Si Chenli then turned around to face his precious daughter, he couldn’t really stay mad at her.
"You don’t have to make breakfast for mom. She never eats breakfast."
"No, that’s not good for her health. I’ll get her to eat this time."
"Then I’ll help you persuade mom," Si Tiantian smiled looking up.
Her grandparents had also tried before, but her mom just wouldn’t eat, so eventually, no one in the house called her to breakfast anymore.
"Okay." Si Chenli nodded, and after he entered the kitchen, the familiar sight of the dishes struck him.
He almost instinctively began making breakfast as if he had learned it before, quickly frying two heart-shaped eggs and cooking some millet porridge.
"Dad, cook this vegetable too," Si Tiantian brought over a bunch of greens.
"Okay." Si Chenli took it and started washing it in the sink, still skilled in his movements.
After bustling in the kitchen for most of the morning, they soon finished three dishes and two heart-shaped fried eggs.
Si Chenli brought everything to the table before going upstairs to call Sang Qiao.
Si Tiantian, with her little legs, ran fast, leading the way, "Dad, I’ll take you."
"I know the way." Si Chenli tugged at the corner of his mouth, even if he couldn’t remember anything now, it was still his room, such a short distance wouldn’t confuse him.
"Alright." Si Tiantian lost her chance to show off, and could only follow her dad upstairs.
As the two approached the room, before they could even call out, they saw Sang Qiao already neat and tidy, coming out of the washroom, "Why did you come up?"
"We came to call you down for breakfast." Si Chenli stood at the doorway, his gaze tenderly falling on her.
"Dad made it by himself," Si Tiantian didn’t forget to add a word.
"Okay, coming right away." Sang Qiao chuckled softly and quickened her pace to follow them downstairs.
The family of three walked one after the other, with Si Tiantian sandwiched between them, her face brimming with excitement, "Daddy, I want to go to the office with you today."
"Stay with mom. I’m too busy at the office to look after you today," Si Chenli blurted out, rejecting her instantly.
Another day of listening to stories? He would end up alone in his empty office again.
"I don’t need you to watch me. The aunties there will play with me," Si Tiantian pouted; her dad had indeed not paid any attention to her yesterday either, always busy with work.
"Those aunties are company employees; they have their own work to do. Don’t bother them," Si Chenli tried to fool his three-year-old daughter.
"But they use their break time; they like me. And the manager said that my presence would reduce their workload and they could play with me."
Si Tiantian remained unmoved. She was not easily fooled, a child who didn’t believe the excuses her dad was making just to keep her away!
Si Chenli: "..."
"Don’t you want to take your daughter to the office?" Sang Qiao seemed to catch on to some hint in their conversation.
"Not at all," Si Chenli’s face momentarily betrayed his discomfort before he masked it.
"It is true! Otherwise, why would you keep making excuses," Si Tiantian huffed.
She was smart, not someone adults could easily deceive with a few words.
"If you really want to come, fine by me. It’s up to you," Si Chenli had no choice but to abandon the idea of not taking his daughter to the office. He would start by speaking to the employees.
Children shouldn’t be listening to scary stories; it’s inappropriate.
"Yay!" Si Tiantian cheered out loud, having achieved her objective.
After breakfast.
The father-daughter duo left, while Sang Qiao went alone to her office. Her car pulled up in front of the office building.
Just as she got out, she spotted a disheveled figure squatting at the entrance. Even in his ragged clothes, Sang Qiao recognized him immediately.
Regardless of his plight, Sang Nanfeng walked up to her, extending a pair of silver bracelets from his pocket, "A gift for Tiantian, I’ve never had the chance to see her. Please pass these to her, Qiaoqiao, I am sorry."
Regret and self-reproach laced Sang Nanfeng’s tone. While in prison, upon hearing the news of Si Chenli’s death, he was overwhelmed by guilt, filled with pain and regret.
If only he hadn’t stopped Qiaoqiao from being with Si Chenli back then, perhaps none of this would have happened.
Even after his release, he didn’t dare meet Qiaoqiao, wrestling with his guilt.
Only when he’d recently heard of Si Chenli’s return did he muster the courage to leave his rented flat. Life wasn’t easy after losing his status as the eldest Sang heir.
Working for a week, he couldn’t even afford a pair of gold bracelets; this silver bracelet was all he could exchange his last possessions for.
"No need," Sang Qiao withdrew her gaze and walked past him without accepting the gift.
Sang Nanfeng had lost his past impulsiveness; nearly six years had made him much steadier and wiser, yet the mistakes he made couldn’t be undone.
Never mind, the silver bracelet wasn’t worth much. He’d earn more and buy a gold one for Tiantian.
Sang Nanfeng turned and walked back; he still had to get to work and couldn’t afford to be late.
By the time he arrived at the restaurant, he was two minutes late.
The boss pointed at him and scolded furiously, "What’s the matter with you? Don’t you have any sense of time? Do you know you are late!"
