Chapter 62: Rise in Status
Chapter 62: Rise in Status
The clashing auras continued for a few more seconds before the elder seated in the room finally lost his patience.
"Elder Yin, Elder Yang — could you both not destroy the room while deciding who gets to train the disciple?" he said with a forced smile.
At his words, the raging energies paused, and two ethereal silhouettes slowly materialized in mid-air.
One radiated a soft, blue light and took the graceful form of a woman — elegant and cold like the moon.
The other blazed with golden light, taking the shape of a confident man — his aura bold and proud like the midday sun.
"Old Yin, let me take this disciple under my wing. You already have enough—" the male silhouette began.
"Did you just call me old?!" the woman snapped mid-sentence, her voice sharp and dangerous.
The man’s face immediately fell. "No, wait, I didn’t mean—"
Too late.
Words once left the mouth cannot be taken back, and the moment was gone, so was the peace.
She attacked again without hesitation — light clashing with light — and the elder in the room quickly flared his qi again to shield the stunned disciples.
A few of them crouched in panic. Yu Xuan remained still but narrowed his eyes.
If it weren’t for the elder present, they would’ve all been vaporized within seconds.
The elder clenched his teeth, holding the barrier firm, and cursed silently.
’Why do you two always have to show off?! And in front of a room full of single people, no less!’
Yes. The clashing duo wasn’t just the Yin and Yang Peak Masters — they were also a daoist couple by bond.
A very famous and very volatile one.
"Just listen to me for a second!" the male said, nearly combusting in frustration. "We can discuss this calmly—"
"We will talk, later. One on one" the woman interrupted, throwing another devastating blast.
Hearing that, the male silhouette paused mid-dodge, then smirked. "Heh... fair." The old trick always worked.
The elder’s eye twitched.
"CAN YOU TWO STOP!?" he finally roared, unable to take it anymore.
The two ethereal figures halted mid-air, their expressions sheepish.
"I would like to train this disciple," said the male, straightening his posture.
"You? You don’t even have enough experience," the woman retorted coldly.
The man flinched, visibly wounded. "I—I have plenty of experience..."
"Then name one good thing you’ve done in your life."
The man opened his mouth.
’I married you,’ he thought.
Before he could say it out loud, a third aura descended.
This one was balanced — neither blazing nor frigid — and carried a stable, resonant energy between the two extremes.
A new phantom-like figure appeared.
"Mom. Dad," said the composed voice of a young man. "Can I make a request?"
The elder raised an eyebrow, while the previous two looked genuinely surprised.
Their son Peak Master of the Yin-Yang Peak himself — rarely made personal requests.
"I want to take this one as my personal disciple."
Everyone in the room, even the Elder, paused.
The woman nodded almost instantly. "Alright."
Then, before disappearing, she turned to glare at the male figure one last time. "Also... Old Yang, you’re banned from home for ten years."
"WHAT THE—?!" the man wailed, as if physically struck.
Ten year could be a lot for many, but for them it was as nearly a day, still he felt sad.
Humiliated and sulking, he tried to salvage what was left of his dignity.
"It seems... I wasn’t fated to train him after all," he said dramatically before vanishing.
His son stared at the spot where he had been.
"...Thanks for not arriving earlier," Elder Kun muttered dryly.
The phantom of the young peak master bowed deeply. "Apologies, Elder Kun. I should’ve stepped in sooner."
The elder sighed. He’d watched this one grow up — from an awkward brat to one of the most respected figures in the sect.
"That’s fine, you are not the one at fault," he muttered. Though deep down, he still felt mentally attacked by Peak Master Yin’s final parting words.
Then the peak master of yin-yang peak turned to the disciple who had yet to be addressed.
The one and only panda, whom for all this happened.
"You," he said. "Are you from the Yin-Yang Panda Clan of the Pandemonium Realm?"
The panda straightened proudly. "Yes, Master! I am Panda Po, of Pandemonium!"
He didn’t miss the chance to claim his new status.
The peak master smiled faintly. "Years ago, I once received a great favor from your ancestor. It seems fate has a sense of humor."
He nodded. "Come to the Yin-Yang Peak after this is over. I will take you as my disciple."
"Yes, Master!" Panda Po said, almost vibrating with excitement.
Thus, a panda secured a peak master before Yu Xuan.
And Yu Xuan? He simply watched... completely unfazed.
Or maybe just quietly annoyed.
After the commotion settled, Panda Po casually waddled over to the group of disciples who had already received their peak assignments.
As he walked, he didn’t forget to glance back at Yu Xuan — and made a smug expression that radiated pure, unfiltered arrogance.
His fluffy belly jiggled slightly with each step, and yet somehow... he walked like a king.
The crowd instinctively parted for him, clearing the way as though he were some noble beast who had just been crowned.
Clearly, in a matter of moments, Po’s status had shot through the sky.
Disciples whispered, smiled, and a few even bowed their heads slightly — eager to curry favor with the newly chosen disciple of the Yin-Yang Peak Master.
Yu Xuan stared at that smug, overly round face and felt something stir inside him.
’This bastard,’ he thought with a twitching brow.
A peculiar emotion — hard to name but easy to feel — bubbled up within him.
This must be why protagonists in novels always loved face-slapping moments.
It wasn’t just justice. It was... simply healing after a hard work day.
He glanced again at Po, who was now basking in admiration, the smug grin still plastered on his face.
He suddenly had the strangest urge to punch that round belly — just once — and see if it bounced back like in those cartoons from Earth.
He resisted, that urge.
Barely.
