Chapter 403: Chapter 403: The Next Boyfriend Must Be Me
"Xiao Fen, why aren’t you coming in?"
Qiu Shuai, without saying a word, pulled her inside.
Inside, Qiu Shuai’s friends froze for a moment, then burst into teasing, "Is this Ah Shuai’s goddess?"
"Ah Shuai lost weight just for you. The power of love really is something else."
"Wait, why does this girl look so familiar? I’m sure I’ve seen her somewhere before."
One friend thought about it for a while and finally remembered her from a short video platform.
"I got it! A few days ago, my mom sent a video in our family group chat about H1N1 awareness. This girl was in the video as the host! I remember thinking back then how sweet she was and wondering when I might meet her in person."
Qiu Shuai chimed in immediately, "That’s right, it’s her. But when I met her, she wasn’t a host yet. Back then, she was just a little nurse. And let me warn you—don’t even think about making a move on her."
The way he said it, it was as if Xi Wanfen was already his.
Xi Wanfen pushed him. "Who’s making a move on who? Looks like it’s YOU who’s making a move on me now, isn’t it?"
One of Qiu Shuai’s friends said, "Miss, don’t be fooled by how honest he looks on the surface. Honestly, he talks about you all the time when he’s with us. You don’t have a boyfriend, right? Actually, Ah Shuai looks like a bit of a dud, and underneath that... well, he’s still a bit of a dud. Hahaha!"
Qiu Shuai seemed annoyed. "You guys are all drunk, aren’t you? Talking a bunch of nonsense here. Forget it, I’m getting her out of this den of wolves. You guys go ahead and play. I’m taking her outside."
Then he dragged Xi Wanfen out again.
Xi Wanfen had no choice but to follow him outside.
They got a table in the front lounge, and Qiu Shuai told the bartender, "Bring me two glasses of my usual drink!"
The bartender soon delivered the drinks.
It was an oval-shaped cocktail glass. The bottom layer was pink, the top layer was creamy white, and garnished with lemon and lime. It looked... refreshing.
Xi Wanfen asked curiously, "I don’t go to bars that often, but is this really alcohol?"
Qiu Shuai began to praise her enthusiastically, "See? This is why I always say you’re so smart. You guessed it—it’s actually not alcohol. This is what I drink during my diet phase. It’s Yuan Qi Forest mixed with yogurt, plus lemon and lime. It’s a super low-calorie drink."
Xi Wanfen laughed. "You’re surprisingly disciplined!"
Qiu Shuai sighed exaggeratedly, "There were several times I almost gave up, but luckily, I kept thinking of you."
Xi Wanfen glanced at his physique.
Although he didn’t have a perfect V-taper figure, and he still had a bit of a belly, he was much better than before.
Xi Wanfen smiled. "Did you go to the hospital for a checkup? If your health isn’t an issue, maybe you don’t need to lose any more weight. Overdoing it might harm your body."
"No way! I’ve gotten used to being disciplined. No matter what, I have to stick with it. Even if I don’t achieve a perfect figure, I like this self-disciplined version of myself. Lately, I’ve felt so refreshed, not like before when walking up two flights of stairs left me gasping for air."
Xi Wanfen looked at him with admiration in her eyes.
"You’re doing really well," she replied and took another sip of her drink. "This is so good. From now on, whenever I come to a bar, I’ll just have this. Is that okay?"
After slimming down, Qiu Shuai had a bit of that Korean drama vibe—monolid eyes, small but charming. His smile was especially endearing.
"Of course! You’re welcome any time. Just tell the bartender you want my specialty drink. He’ll definitely make it for you because he’s already treating you like the boss lady around here."
Under the table, Xi Wanfen kicked him. "Stop talking nonsense!"
"It’s only a matter of time!"
"Keep talking like that, and I won’t dare come back."
Qiu Shuai said, "Then I’ll only say it in my heart. Either way, I like you. Your next boyfriend has to be me!"
"Come back when you win your fourth figurine!"
Xi Wanfen turned her face away, pretending to sip her drink, but the smile on her lips overflowed uncontrollably.
...
On the weekend, Li Hengze was persuaded by his trainer to attend a fitness party.
Since completing a half-marathon, he’d grown quite confident. With his improving physique and recently emerging chest muscles, his trainer said abs were difficult but achievable with persistence. The key was to avoid sitting for long periods and spend at least two hours in the gym every day.
Today, at the fitness party, he deliberately wore a tight-fitting athletic outfit to show off his emerging definition.
He figured a fitness party would obviously involve everyone in sportswear, competing in feats of strength and aesthetics.
The party was indeed held at a gym, affirming his assumption that everyone would be there to compare and compete.
After parking his car, he had just stepped out when he noticed a yellow sports car pull into the space next to his.
Since the parking lot was exclusive to the gym, Li Hengze intuitively guessed that the yellow car’s owner must also be attending the party.
He paused for a moment.
When the yellow car’s owner stepped out, the driver turned out to be a girl in a white evening gown.
Li Hengze took a closer look—wasn’t that Huang Yingya?
Huang Yingya saw him too but paid him no mind, walking to the trunk. She opened it, pulled out a pair of high heels, and swapped out the flats she’d worn while driving.
Her movements were calm and elegant.
Li Hengze remembered her mentioning they’d met before, but when he asked her about it, she had clammed up.
Since then, they hadn’t spoken again.
Seeing her finish changing shoes, Li Hengze burst out laughing. "Haha, don’t tell me you’re here for the fitness party too? Why are you dressed like that?"
Huang Yingya cast him a sidelong glance and coldly said just two words, "Idiot."
Li Hengze: "..."
What’s with the name-calling?
I mean, seriously—a fitness party, and she shows up dressed like that?
Following behind her, Li Hengze kept pestering, "Didn’t you say you were starting some kind of exercise program recently? How’s that going? Hey, why aren’t you answering? Is it a condition with girls who’ve studied abroad to be extra aloof?"
Huang Yingya lifted the hem of her gown and entered the elevator, ignoring him entirely.
She didn’t want to waste a single word on this idiot!
The elevator reached the gym’s floor. This was a high-end gym, with annual memberships costing tens of thousands and personal training sessions going for over six hundred a class.
When they stepped out, elegant music played inside. As they entered the club area, men and women were dressed to the nines—men in suits, women in evening gowns.
Except Li Hengze, who stuck out like a sore thumb!
