Chapter 294: CONVINCING THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Astrid walked into the meeting room, her heels clicking on the polished floor.
The room was filled with powerful men, who were on the board of directors. They were all seated and looking expectant.
Astrid’s eyes scanned the room, and she could swear she hadn’t seen many of these faces before.
But one thing was certain, she was not afraid. She walked in with confidence, her head held high and greeted the men with a nod.
As she made her way to her seat, Samuel also sat beside her, now extending a file to her.
Astrid took the file, opening it to reveal the profiles of the men seated in the room. She began to scan through the pages, her eyes widening as she read through the impressive list of names.
There was Marcus Thompson, CEO of Thompson Industries, a leading manufacturer of steel and iron. He owned 5% of the company’s shares.
Next to him sat Ethan Lee, Chairman of Lee Corporation, a multinational conglomerate with interests in technology, finance, and real estate. He held 15% of the company’s shares.
Across from them was Julian Styles, Founder and CEO of Styles Media, a leading media conglomerate with interests in publishing, broadcasting, and digital media. He owned 2% of the company’s shares.
Astrid’s eyes continued to scan the room, taking in the profiles of the other men. There was Harrison Green, CEO of Green Energy, a leading provider of renewable energy solutions. He held 6% of the company’s shares.
As she read through the profiles, Astrid felt a sense of awe at the collective power and influence of the men seated in the room.
She was still engrossed in the file when the door opened, and Donald walked in.
The room fell silent, and everyone stood up, showing respect. Astrid smiled graciously as Donald patted her head.
Mr. Jenkins helped him pull out his chair, the moment he sat everyone sat back down.
Until Marcus Thompson spoke up, his voice deep and commanding.
"Chairman, thank you for calling us here today. What is the purpose of this meeting?"
Astrid’s eyes locked onto Marcus, her mind racing with thoughts. She examined him.
Donald smiled, and he turned on his mic, staring at his granddaughter alone, she reminded her so much of his daughter. "I have called you all here today for something small, after all. I have called most of you from other countries, and I appreciate your presence."
He paused, taking a deep breath. "As you all know, I am getting old, and it’s time for me to retire. I want to make sure that the company is in good hands, and that’s why I have called you all here today. I want to announce my retirement and appoint a new chairman."
The room fell silent, and Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise. She expected it but not too fast, and she wondered who Donald would choose as his successor.
The men all stared at themselves, their faces laced with curiosity. They had all been expecting Donald to announce his retirement.
As they digested this information, another one of the men asked, "So, Chairmans do you think would be the best person to succeed you in your positions?"
Donald smirked and stood up, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
"I have a lot more shares in the company," he said, his voice dripping with confidence.
"The late Elizabeth had 5% of the shares, Miles had 3% of the shares, and Mattie and Tonia, whose shares have been scrapped from them, had 2% and 8% respectively. Astrid, who has been working hard and bringing in new clients, has managed to succeed in getting her own 10% of the shares, in just a few months proving much of her worth," they all stared at themselves wondering how a little girl like Astrid could be that fast in gaining share as.
"So as of today, the one with the most shares, I am giving my own 35% of the shares, Tonia’s 8%, Mattie’s 2%, Elizabeth’s 6%, all to Astrid."
The room fell silent, and Astrid’s eyes widened in shock. She looked around the room, taking in the reactions of the men.
They all looked stunned, and some of them looked like they had been punched in the gut.
One of the men, Ethan Lee, spoke up, his voice laced with skepticism. "I don’t think this is the right decision, Donald. Astrid is young and inexperienced. She doesn’t even have a high school diploma."
Astrid was stunned by the way people already found her history, but she kept her cool. "Hmmm... Astrid, what do you have to say about this?" Donald asked.
She stood up, a confident smile spreading across her face. "Well... Grandad, they are right. I don’t think I am to succeed in your position that way." Donald glared at her but she smiled and then turned to Ethan.
"I understand your concerns, Mr. Ethan," she said, her voice clear and confident.
"But I would like to prove my worth. I may not have your experience, but I’ve been working hard and learning quickly."
The men all stared at her, their faces expressionless. Astrid knew that she had to do more to convince them.
"Well... if you all believed, maybe one of you could succeed then you would like to point out some of the challenges that some of you may face as chairman," she said, her eyes scanning the room, and they all broke into murmurs.
"Marcus Thompson, for example, has led several high-profile projects, including the Thompson Tower development. However, there were some concerns about the project’s timeline and budget. Perhaps, with more attention to detail, the project could have been even more successful, but... he neglected that fact."
Marcus Thompson’s face turned red with anger, but Astrid continued, her voice respectful and measured.
"Julian Styles has also led several successful projects, including the Styles Media merger. However, there were some concerns about the merger’s impact on the company’s finances. Perhaps, with more careful planning, the merger could have been even more profitable."
Julian Styles looked taken aback, but Astrid pressed on.
"Harrison Green has also led several projects, including the Green Energy initiative. However, there were some concerns about the project’s feasibility and scalability. Perhaps, with more careful planning and research, the project could have been even more successful."
The men all looked at each other, their faces filled with a mixture of shock and embarrassment. Astrid had managed to point out their weaknesses without directly attacking them.
"Hey! That doesn’t mean we won’t lead this company well.." Astrid paused, taking a deep breath.
"I am not saying that any of you are not capable of leading the company. But I am saying that I have a unique perspective and a fresh set of eyes that could bring a lot of value to the company."
The men all stared at her, their faces expressionless. Astrid knew that she had made her point.
"So? How... Do you want to convince us that you can do it?"
Astrid smiled and then glanced at Samuel who nodded his head, "I would like to do a presentation to show you my vision for the company and my plans for its future."
