Chapter 284: I WILL MAKE HER PAY

Chapter 284: I WILL MAKE HER PAY

Doctors and nurses flitted in and out of the operating room, their faces grim and focused.

Their heir, Logan, is inside the operating room, a mistake that would cost them their whole career if he isn’t saved.

The whole city is shut dead, with two prominent heirs within the span of a few days. Fear watched through the press as they all waited outside the hospital building hoping to get good news.

Astrid on the other hand sat frozen, her eyes fixed on the operating room door, with her hands stained with Julian’s blood, which she had refused to clean ever since he shot inside with his almost lifeless body.

Seeing her husband that weak was so new to her, he always played the dominant man over, even if it was just a few hours she missed him already. Those few hours already looked like years to her, it made her wonder how she lived a year apart from him.

Her face was pale, her eyes sunken, and her skin clammy. She looked like she had been drained of all life, she just wanted him to sit beside her, stand beside her. Always ready to protect her.

She had lived the scene twice, her mum, her granddad, even though safe but still wasn’t out of the hospital, and her husband, her strongest backbone.

Maren sat beside her, trying to offer what little comfort she could. She wrapped her arms around Astrid, holding her close as she tried to calm her racing thoughts.

But Astrid didn’t respond, didn’t react. She just sat there, her eyes fixed on the operating room door, her mind consumed by thoughts of Julian. She just wants him to be brought out of the room alive.

Becky stood nearby, her eyes red-rimmed from crying as her hands also tried to comfort her.

Her thoughts couldn’t help but reveal Simone’s words, as she didn’t want to feel the pain of losing a son.

She glanced at Astrid, her expression with concern. Astrid hadn’t spoken a word since Julian was rushed into surgery.

Becky’s gaze pierced Astrid, hoping to see some sign of life, some indication that she was still with them. But Astrid’s eyes remained fixed on the operating room door, her face a mask of pain and fear.

Becky moved closer to Astrid, squatting in front of her, as she jerked Astrid but no response.

"Astrid love," she called but her eyes still didn’t move. It was like she just sat there lifeless.

"Hey, say something you can’t just zone out of the world." She let out and Maren interfered.

"Aunty, you also need to take care of yourself, about Astrid maybe a sedation would help because she still

Didn’t utter a word ever since she walked inside." Becky nodded her head, she never knew Astrid had fallen for her son this deep for this to make her zone out.

Even though she is satisfied with the fact, she can’t help but be worried.

Just then, Miles walked into the waiting room, his face grim and sad. He had been working tirelessly to track down the shooter, to find out who had tried to kill Julian.

Zach moved toward him, Immediately noticing how weak Miles was.

"Miles, what’s going on? Has it been traced to who the person is" Zach asked, his voice low and urgent. Miles shook his head, his eyes clouding over.

"I don’t know yet," Miles admitted, one could hear it in his voice, losing one friend is bad enough now losing the one so close to him wouldn’t be a good experience for him.

Just then, an unannounced guest appeared at the entrance of the waiting room. Mattie’s hands were fidgeting, her eyes darting around the room. Miles turned to her, his expression wary.

"What are you doing here, Mattie?" Miles demanded, not happy about her arrival.

Mattie’s eyes locked onto Astrid, and for a moment, it seemed like she was frozen in place.

"I heard the news," Mattie stammered. "I had to come." Astrid’s eyes snapped into focus, her gaze locking onto Mattie like a laser. For a moment, it seemed like time stood still.

Maren was shocked that just the voice of Mattie had brought her back to the world with them.

"Astrid!" Maren called with a small smile now gaining the attention of Becky.

But Astrid’s face was a mask of fury, her burning with rage. She stood from her chair and Mafem knew the scene was about to be ugly.

She took a step forward, her hands clenched into fists. Mattie took a step backward, her eyes wide with fear seeing how Astrid action was directed to her.

And then, in an instant, Astrid was flying toward Mattie, her fists flying toward her face.

Miles and Zach leaped into action, grabbing Astrid and holding her back. But Astrid’s eyes remained fixed on Mattie, her expression a testament to her fury and pain.

"You did this," Astrid spat, her voice venomous. "You tried to kill my husband." Mattie’s eyes darted around the room, her face pale with fear.

"I didn’t," Mattie stammered. "I swear, I didn’t do it." But Astrid’s eyes remained unconvinced, her expression a mask of fury and hatred.

Astrid’s grip on Mattie’s hair was like a vice, her fingers tangled in the dark locks as she slammed Mattie’s head against the floor.

"You bitch! I warned you not to mess with me?" Astrid screamed, her voice echoing off the walls of the waiting room. "Why did you hurt Julian? Why him? You shouldn’t have touched him."

Mattie’s eyes were wide with fear, her face contorted in pain as Astrid’s grip tightened. "Astrid, please," Mattie begged, trying to reason with her. "I didn’t mean to hurt Julian. I swear, it wasn’t me."

But Astrid wasn’t listening. She was beyond reason, her anger and fear consuming her.

She slapped Mattie’s face, her hand leaving a red mark on Mattie’s cheek. Mattie cried out, trying to defend herself, but Astrid was relentless.

Miles tried to intervene, grabbing Astrid’s arms and trying to pull her off Mattie. But Astrid was too strong, her adrenaline-fueled rage giving her a strength she didn’t normally possess. She pushed Miles away like she was ready to eat Mattie alive.

"Astrid, stop!" Miles shouted, trying to reason with her. "You’re going to hurt Mattie!"

She turned to Miles and he shifted back immediately, he had never seen that look of her before.

"He has always been lenient with this slutty thrash. He thought you would change! Now you hurt him!" She sat on her grabbing her neck, I would kill you before he woke up you slutty bitch!

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Miles and Zach managed to grab Astrid and pull her off Mattie.

While Desmond and Becky stared at her in shock, Astrid struggled against Miels, her body writhing like a snake as she tried to break free.

Miles held tight, trying to make her calm but she had another plan, she grabbed Miles’ arm, her teeth sinking deep into his skin. Miles cursed, his eyes flashing with pain, but he didn’t let go.

"Fucking hell!" he shrieked and Zach backed away immediately. Instead, he moved toward Mattie pulling her up hoping Astrid would relax if he dealt with Mattie instead.

He pulled Mattie closed and smacked her across her face making her shift back.

"How dare you leave the mansion without my orders?" he shouted at Mattie.

Mattie cowered, her eyes wide with fear, her hands across her face in tears.

Astrid’s eyes flashed with satisfaction, her anger momentarily sated. But as she looked at Mattie, she felt a fresh wave of rage wash over her.

"You’re going to rot in jail for what you’ve done, I will make sure of that!" she mumbled.

Mattie’s eyes filled with tears, her face contorted in pain and fear. "Why are you guys not listening Dad? You know how much I care for Julain why would hurt him!"

Heating this annoyed Astrid again, she pulled against struggling moving toward Mattie, Miles’ power not able to sedate her.

"How dare you breathe! How could you talk? Those bullets were directed at me, he saved me! Only one person wants me dead! Did you think I didn’t hear your conversation with Landon!"

Mattie swallowed speechless, she knew? So they knew of all her plans, yes she paid that shooter to kill Astrei she never knew Julaimw would save her and take the bullet for her.

"Take her home," he ordered the guards, gesturing to Mattie. "And make sure she doesn’t leave her room. If she does, I will make sure she regrets it."

"No! I want to deal with her! She shouldn’t go home! She should be in jail! You murderer!" Astrid yelled, making Zach and the breastlaws confused.

And then, suddenly, Astrid’s strength gave out. She fell to the ground, her body weak and limp. Becky and Maren rushed to her side, embracing her as she screamed and cried.

"I will make her pay," Astrid shouted, I cried "I will make her rot in jail for what she’s done." But her words were slurred, her voice weak and fading.

And then, suddenly, Astrid’s eyes closed, her body going limp. Becky and Maren held her close, their faces etched with worry and concern. That was it she lost consciousness in their arms.
