Chapter 216: REVELATION
Astrid stood in front of the mirror, her reflection staring back at her. She was getting ready for another day at the office, her makeup and hair perfectly in place.
Just as she was about to finish, Julian’s arms wrapped around her waist from behind. She checked his reflection in the mirror, a smile spreading across her face.
"When will you be back from the office?" Julian whispered in her ear, his breath sending shivers down her spine.
Astrid shrugged. "I am not sure. We are to commence work on the president’s project today, and it’s going to be a long day."
Julian nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. He began to nibble on her neck, sending waves of pleasure through her body. "I will miss you," he said, his voice soft.
Astrid’s heart skipped a beat as she watched Julian’s reflection. He was acting like a lovesick teenager, and it was adorable. It was the first time she had seen this and she was happy.
She could tell he was trying his best to win her back, to make her forget the pain he had caused her in the past.
As he continued to sniff her scent, Astrid felt her heart melt. She was done with her makeup, but Julian’s love bites on her neck were a different story.
"You’re ruining my makeup," she said, grumbling. "My whole neck is covered in love bites. I needed to wear a turtleneck to cover them up."
Julian disengaged from the hug, a mischievous glint in his eye. "You’re my wife," he said. "I have every right to leave my mark on you."
Astrid rolled her eyes, pushing him away as she picked up her bag.
"You are impossible," she said, now twirling around to face him. "How do I look?"
Julian’s eyes roamed over her body, his gaze burning with desire. "You look stunning," he said. "As always."
As they walked out of the mansion, Julian stopped her again as she asked,
"Do you want to continue living here?" Astrid glanced at him, her expression hesitant.
"I don’t know," she said. "But I am not going near that mansion of yours because it holds a lot of painful memories for me. You were never nice to me when we lived there."
Julian’s face fell, but he quickly recovered. "I know I wasn’t," he said. "But I’m trying to make it up to you now. I want to win you back, Astrid. I want to be the man you deserve."
Astrid’s heart skipped a beat as Julian leaned forward, his eyes burning with intensity. "I don’t think I can ever win you completely," he said. "But I am willing to try. I will do everything in my power to make you happy, to make you love me again. Forever and always, my love."
Astrid felt her heart melt. She knew she still had a long way to go before she could fully trust Julian again, but for now, she was going to place her hope in his words.
"Drive safe," he told her, she got inside and drove off as he just stood there watching her car leave.
Astrid pulled up in front of Rowan’s company, she had purposely come down here because she felt that it would be the best they talked.
She walked into the building and was directed toward his office easily like they had been expecting her already.
She finally got to Rowan’s office, she was met with him typing on his computer.
Rowan looked up from his computer, a hint of a smile on his face as she moved closer.
"Seeing you today... does it mean another percentage of my stock would drop?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
Astrid frowned, unsure of what he was talking about. "What do you mean?" she asked.
Rowan chuckled. "You don’t know, do you? Once Julian finds out you’re close to me, it will affect my business."
Astrid’s eyes widened in surprise. "You mean you are serious about that when you said it the other day?" she asked.
Rowan nodded, his expression serious. "How could you think he was joking? Julian is a man who gets what he wants, no matter the cost."
Astrid shook her head, trying to process the information. Does it mean that he is behind that of the Adams despite his friend being Miles?
But before she could ask more questions, Rowan changed the topic asking her why she was here in the first place.
"Rowan, I need to talk to you about the footage," she said, seeing that he was ready to talk about that.
Rowan sighed and stood up, walking over to a cabinet in the corner of the room. He pulled out a file and handed it to her.
"Your mum made me do a DNA test, and this is the result though she doesn’t want any of you to know."
Astrid snatched the file from him, her heart racing with anticipation. She opened the file and began to read, her eyes scanning the pages with growing shock.
As she read, her face paled, and her eyes grew wide with horror. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her.
"What... what is this?" she stuttered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rowan’s expression was sympathetic, but he didn’t say anything. He just let her read, let her process the information.
Astrid’s eyes scanned the pages, her mind reeling with the implications. "We are twins? How was that possible? I looked nothing like Mattie." she stated in shock.
"Why didn’t my mom say anything about this?" she asked, her voice rising in anger. "Why would she let me go through all that pain if I had a twin sister who is rich?"
Rowan moved closer to her, his voice soft and calming. "Astrid, maybe there’s more to the story than you think. Maybe your mom was trying to protect you from something."
Astrid’s eyes flashed with frustration. "Protect me? From what? Why does my dad hate me but not Mattie? This doesn’t make any sense!"
Rowan’s expression was thoughtful, his eyes narrowed in concentration. "Maybe Josh wants you to find your real father," he said, his voice low and mysterious.
Astrid’s head snapped up, her eyes locking onto Rowan’s. "What do you mean?" she asked, hoping she had just heard wrong.
Rowan’s eyes seemed to bore into her soul, his expression serious. "The only way to find the truth is to perform a DNA test with your father," he advised her.
"What? It can’t be true? Josh is my father, I only accept those pain because he is my father! A daughter is supposed to listen to her father!" her hands trembled, as she tried to compose herself from accepting this truth.
The thought just kept reeling in her head, DNA test? What would it reveal? And what more secrets had her family been keeping from her all these years?
