Chapter 212: THE BIDDING

The auction was being held at the prestigious Bellvue Manor, a grand estate known for its exquisite architecture and beautiful gardens.

The lights dimmed in the grand ballroom, and the crowd quieted in anticipation.

Julian grabbed Astrid’s hands and gestured for her to come sit, not wanting to cause a scene as he said following him to his seat along with Miles and Maren.

Astrid had her seat and then Julian sat beside her, Rowan on the other hand watched how the couple sat and couldn’t help but snicker.

He had always known Julain could be crazy when it came to getting what he wanted. He underestimated Julian’s feelings for Astrid; he had thought he would be able to have her but not anymore.

The charity auction, hosted by the esteemed Architectural Heritage Society, was about to begin when the light came up on the stage.

The society’s president, the charismatic and well-known architect, Henry Lee, took the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight’s charity auction!" Henry exclaimed, his voice booming through the microphone.

"We have an incredible selection of items up for grabs, and all proceeds will go towards preserving and restoring our city’s most iconic architectural landmarks," he announced and a few people murmured a welcome sound.

The first few items up for auction were a collection of rare architectural books, followed by a stunning piece of artwork created by a local artist.

Astrid seems to be interested in them but for a weird reason never seems fit to bid on any for now.

It wasn’t until the next item was revealed that Astrid’s eyes widened with excitement.

"And now, ladies and gentlemen, we have a truly unique and special item up for bid," Henry announced, gesturing to a large, ornate box on the stage.

"This is a handcrafted, scale model of the iconic ’Rosemont Building,’ a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture that has been a staple of our city’s skyline for generations."

As Henry opened the box, revealing the intricate model inside, Astrid’s mind flashed back to her childhood.

This looked so familiar to her that she couldn’t help but place her whole attention on it.

She remembered spending hours poring over her mother’s old architecture books, marveling at the intricate designs and grand structures.

But it wasn’t just the building itself that held a special place in Astrid’s heart.

It was the memories she had made with her mother, visiting the building and exploring its intricate details.

This building kept flashing in her head some memories she never knew she had with her mum were coming up.

Her hands grabbed her head as she tried recalling vividly why it looked so familiar to her but nothing was adding up to her.

It looked more than a project to her, she had no reason but to conclude that since her mother had been an architect, and the Rosemont Building had been one of her favorite projects, maybe in gaining more experience, Astrid thought.

As Henry began to describe the model’s intricate details and the craftsmanship that had gone into creating it, Astrid felt a sense of nostalgia wash over her. She knew she had to have that model.

"The bidding will start at $1,000,000," Henry announced, his voice rising with excitement. "Who will start us off at $1000,000?"

The room fell silent, with all eyes fixed on the model. Astrid’s hand began to rise, but she hesitated, unsure if she should bid.

And then, just as Henry was about to close the bidding, Astrid’s hand shot up. "I’ll bid $1,500,000!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing out across the room.

The room gasped in shock, with all eyes fixed on Astrid. Julian’s eyes widened in surprise, and he turned to her with a questioning look.

"Do you need that building so badly?" Julian asked and she nodded her head eagerly.

He could see that eager look, she hadn’t said any words since she got her until this came up, so he couldn’t help it and wanted to help her get it.

But before anyone could react, a smooth, velvety voice spoke up from the back of the room. "I will bid $2,500,000," the voice said, with a hint of amusement.

Astrid’s eyes scanned the room, trying to locate the speaker. And then, she saw him. A tall, dark-haired man with piercing blue eyes, standing at the back of the room with a small mask on his face as they gazed at her.

The room fell silent once again, with all eyes fixed on the mysterious bidder. Astrid’s heart was racing with excitement, and she felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was going to get that model, no matter what it took.

"Going at $2,500,000.." Henry voiced boom and then Astrid’s hands shot up again.

"$3,000,000!" she exclaimed and every eye turned to her.

"$4,000,000." the voice announced again, and Astrid’s hands shook in annoyance.

"$5,000,000," Astrid announced again, Henry smiled at this, this was becoming instead a thing in front of him he had known would cause an uproar.

"10,000,000." The voice announced and this time Julian needed to find the voice going up against his wife, he glanced back at the man and there was no familiarity.

Astrid didn’t budget to get anything, so she didn’t want to cross her budget limit on this.

She looked down, not able to bid anymore, "Going at 10,000,000." Henry’s voice announced and Astrid quickly tightened against the arm of the chair.

"$20,000,000." Julian let out for the first time and everyone gasped, this made Astrid grab his arms shaking her head.

"Hey... you shouldn’t waste money on this. I was just interested for a while, and Julian smiled at this.

"Interested? So I am getting it for you dear." he stole her and she couldn’t help but be drawn back. "But.."

"Astrid... you need it so badly?" Maren cut her off smiling, "So he should get it for you."

"Going for..." Henry’s voice was cut short when the voice let out again.

"$40, 000,000." and this made everyone’s eyes move to him again."

"70,000,000." Astrid eyes widened as she shook her head at Julian, "Hey enough... that is too much money." she mumbled against her breath not wanting to think about him paying huge money for that.

"Going for 70,000,000" Henry’s voice echoed, and then all eyes turned to the mysterious bidder, waiting for him to respond. But there was no response from him anymore, he just sat there, not having a word.

"Going.... Going and gone.." Henry hit the gavel with a sharp crack, signaling that the bidding was closed.

"This item has been sold to Mr and Mrs Logan."
