Chapter 211: THE EVENT
Chapter 211: THE EVENT
Astrid descended the stairs, her beauty radiating like a shining star.
Her hair cascaded down her back in luscious waves, styled to perfection by the team of stylists and makeup artists Julian had hired for her which had come from Maren.
The soft lighting in the foyer danced across her locks, highlighting the subtle layers and texture.
Her eyes sparkled as she smiled to herself, her confidence and poise evident in every step.
Her skin glowed with a subtle sheen, thanks to the expertly applied makeup that accentuated her natural features.
Her stunning purple gown hugged her curves in all the right places. The fitted, strapless bodice showcased her toned shoulders and décolletage, while the flowing, floor-length skirt fell in soft folds around her feet.
The rich, jewel-toned fabric seemed to shimmer and glow in the light as if infused with an inner radiance.
Around her neck, a delicate, diamond-encrusted necklace glinted and sparkled, drawing attention to her slender throat and accentuating the elegance of the gown.
She no longer used the necklace she got from Julian, because felt it had been worn by Mattie for years, she only wore it that day to piss her off.
Her ears were adorned with chandelier earrings that added a touch of whimsy and glamour to her overall look.
On her feet, she wore a pair of high heels in a deep, rich purple that perfectly matched the gown.
The shoes added a few inches to her statuesque height. As she reached the bottom of the stairs, Julian’s eyes widened in admiration, his gaze drinking in the sight of her.
She had always looked stunning to him right from the moment he finally took interest in her but tonight looked different.
"You look breathtaking," he said, still admiring her beauty and her cheek flushed at this.
Astrid’s gaze lingered on Julian, taking in the sight of him in his tailored suit.
The black fabric hugged his broad shoulders and chest, accentuating his lean physique.
His hair was styled perfectly, with a subtle wave that added to his debonair charm. She couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her chest as she also admired him. "You are not bad yourself.." she retorted
"But I am the luckiest man here tonight." he let out.
Astrid’s cheeks flushed with pleasure as she smiled back at him sincerely, she was still mad at him but she believed he needed that smile from her.
He had even gotten the stylist from Maren, who knew her taste and preferences inside out.
"Shall we?" he asked as he stretched his hands for her, she accepted still having that smile as they both walked out looking elegant as ever.
Just then, a sleek, black Rolls-Royce Phantom pulled up in front of the mansion.
The chauffeur, resplendent in his uniform, opened the door for them, and Julian helped Astrid into the back seat.
As they drove to the charity auction gala, Astrid couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness.
She doesn’t attend these events and she hopes she won’t embarrass him like the last time she had gone with him
"You don’t have to be nervous, I am here with you." Julian finally let out seeing how she was playing with her fingers.
As they walked into the grand ballroom, the host of the evening, Sophia Patel, greeted them with a warm smile.
"Mr. And Mrs. Logan, welcome to the Architectural Heritage Society’s annual gala!" she let out.
Astrid looked up at Julian, he had only told her they were going to a gala event she never knew was related to architecture.
"It’s an honor to have you both here," Sophia announced again and Julian shook hands with her.
"Well... I usually don’t attend but my wife here is an architect in the making so I thought of bringing her here, who knows? She might get interested in something."
Sophia smiled as she glanced at Astrid, "I am delighted to have you here. I hope you will enjoy the event." Astrid only nodded her head as she accepted the handshake from Sophia
"Allow me," she said, leading them inside as they made their way through the crowded room.
Astrid was nervous, unsure of what to expect, but Julian seemed to sense her unease.
He wrapped his arms around her, pulled her close, and whispered in her ear, "Don’t worry, just be yourself. You’re amazing, and everyone will love you."
Astrid smiled, feeling a sense of calm wash over her. She nodded, and Julian released her, taking her hand instead.
As they mingled with the other guests, some powerful men greeted them, striking conversation with Julian.
Just then Astrid spotted Maren and Miles across the room. She excused herself from Julian’s side and made her way over to her friends.
Maren smiled warmly as Astrid approached. "You look stunning, Astrid," she said, air-kissing her cheek. "I am so glad I could help with the stylist."
Astrid laughed. "You’re a lifesaver, Maren," she said. "I don’t know what I would have done without you,"
Miles smiled and nodded in agreement. "Who would have thought you both are going to become this close?" he said and Maren slapped his arms.
"We have always clicked from the moment I saw her, you are the one who didn’t want us to become friends." she reminded him and he smirked.
"Oh... I am so sorry for that," he apologized to them both as they both broke into laughter.
Julian joined them, and the four of them chatted amiably, discussing.
Astrid felt a sense of happiness and contentment wash over her as she laughed and joked with her friends.
But just as things were going smoothly, Rowan appeared out of nowhere, his eyes fixed intently on Astrid.
"Good evening, everyone.." Rowan, greeted and the smile on both Julain and Miles disappeared.
"Good evening.." the bith ladies responded instead, still with their smiles.
"Astrid, you look lovely tonight," he said, his voice low and smooth. "I am so glad I finally got to see you here tonight."
Astrid’s eyes narrowed slightly as she smiled back at him with guilt. She had stood him up the day he asked her to meet him, and she knew that she owed him an apology.
She was the one who wanted something from him and she still stood him up, crazily didn’t even recall it until now.
But before she could say anything, Rowan continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I waited for you, Astrid, but you never showed up. You didn’t even have the decency to call me and cancel." This made Julian irritated wondering why they wanted to meet.
Astrid’s face flushed with embarrassment as she tried to apologize, but Rowan cut her off, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Don’t bother, Astrid," he said. "I’m not interested in hearing your excuses. Let’s just forget it ever happened, shall we?" with that Rowan turned and left.
"Hey Rowan, I am sorry," Astrid called out about going after him but Julian’s hand on her waist restrained her.
"Let it go, Astrid," he whispered in her ear. "It’s not worth it, don’t push further."
"Hey, it’s none of your business." she let out and snatched her hand away from Julian’s about to leave when the light turned off.
It was time for the event to begin.
