Chapter 177: SHE FIND OUT THE SHOCKING TRUTH

Miles nudged Astrid gently, his voice low with concern, trying to get her back to herself.

"Hey, what’s wrong? You look like you have seen a ghost." He whispered in her ears as he jerked her back again.

Astrid’s gaze snapped back to reality, and she looked around nervously, hoping no one had noticed her distress, and thankfully none did aside from Miles.

But everyone’s attention was focused on Julian and Mattie, and Miles was the only one who seemed to have noticed her.

Astrid’s eyes glazed over as she stared blankly at the scene before her. The family was congratulating Julian and Mattie on their pregnancy, and the air was filled with laughter and excitement. But Astrid’s heart felt like it had been ripped into a million pieces.

She shook her head, trying to brush off the emotions that threatened to overwhelm her. "Nothing’s wrong," she lied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Miles’s eyes narrowed, and he could tell I was because of the news they had suddenly announced.

He didn’t push the issue, instead offering her his support and comfort.

"Here, let me help you," he said, gently guiding her to lean against him.

Astrid rested her body against Miles’s still trying to process the information of Mattie being pregnant with Julian’s child. So he knew she was pregnant and he was trying to win favors with her.

She looked around the room, her eyes met Julian’s, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.

Astrid could see the concern etched on his face, and she knew he had noticed her distress.

"The wedding is going to be a private wedding!" Julian announced and the room was silent again.

"What?" Tonia stepped forward, her voice shrill with anger. "Are you trying to treat my daughter like trash because she’s pregnant, right?" she spat, her eyes blazing with fury.

Miles tried to intervene, but Tonia pushed him aside, her anger and resentment boiling over.

"If you don’t want to marry her, then just say so! We don’t need you treating her like dirt!" she yelled mad.

Julian’s face darkened, and his fists clenched at his sides. Astrid could see the anger simmering just below the surface, and she knew he was struggling to keep his emotions in check.

But before things could escalate further, Mattie stepped forward, her voice sweet and pretentious. "Mum, it’s okay. I am satisfied with a private wedding, as long as I get to spend the rest of my life with Julian."

Astrid felt a pang of pain at Mattie’s words, but she still managed to compose herself.

Astrid stepped forward, a forced smile on her face. "Congratulations, Julian and Mattie. I am happy for you both."

She asserted trying her best to keep her voice from cracking.

"Save it, Astrid. We all know you’re not happy for us. You’re just jealous that Julian is moving on with his life."

Astrid’s smile faltered for a moment before she regained her composure. "I am not jealous, Mattie. I am just happy that you are happy. And I’m happy that Julian has found someone who loves him for who he is." Her eyes locked onto Julian’s, and for a moment, they just stared at each other.

Mattie’s face turned red with anger. "You think you are so much better than me, don’t you? But you are not. You are just a bitter, jealous woman who can’t let go of the past even though you are the cause of it in the first place."

Astrid’s eyes flashed with anger, but she kept her cool. "I am just telling the truth, I divorced him for him to be with you, and the truth is, Julian loves you, not me." she moved closer to her.

"I am sorry for ruining the marriage a year ago, you both managed to have a baby even when I am still married to him so..." she took Ina deep breath before proceeding.

"You can tell how much he loves you.." Marie took in a deep breath as she watched the smile on Astrid’s face, she hated seeing that all she wanted from her was pain.

Before Matie could utter another word Donald’s voice cut through the tension. "Let’s not forget why we’re here." this got back their attention.

"Even though this is supposed to be my late wife’s memorial, We’re celebrating Julian and Mattie’s engagement and their upcoming child. Let’s focus on the positive."

"And also..." Donald called out, "Julian I know this isn’t my place to ask but why the heck are the Rays’ facing issues with their current car launching?" Mattie and Miles exchange glances as they are directed to Stephan.

He had never mentioned it to Mattie and it came as a shock to her, "I don’t know," he answered nonchalantly and this got Astrid more interested.

"You are best friends from childhood, I know the way you both act but it’s no longer that way, seeing you both together today." Julian’s eyes were still on Astrid and he smirked.

"Who knows? He might have done something outrageous to someone important to me," Donald stared at Julian.

He knows he is a slow poison, he isn’t the kind that acts on impulse, he thinks before he acts and he just confirmed they are both not on good terms.

"To the extent of pulling out investors from him and also making them lose in the stock,"

"Yeah," he answered, as he looked down at Mattie’s arms, "Let’s go have dinner," Donald announced and immediately Julian dropped Mattie’s arms from his walking off to the dining room.

Astrid turned to leave also, but Miles grabbed her arm, Julian noticed this and stopped glancing back at them.

Miles winked at Julian, a triumphant glint in his eye. "Shall we?" he asked Astrid, his voice low and husky.

Astrid nodded her head still lost with the news she had just heard, she could swear he did that for her but she couldn’t understand what was going on in Julian’s head.

Miles led her to the dining room. Julian followed, his eyes fixed on Astrid’s back and she could feel the weight of Julian’s gaze on her skin.

As they got to the table, Miles helped Astrid into her seat, "Thank you," she murmured and just then Julian sat beside her before Miles could sit, making her shocked.

"Why?"

"I want to sit here, he should look for another. I don’t want to sit with Stephan." Astrid let out a slight nod and Miles found his way to another seat.

Astrid looked around but couldn’t find Mattie, she didn’t want another issue and was about to stand from the seat but Julian grabbed her hands stopping her.

That familiar feeling and spark she had never felt anyone crept in, and she slapped his hands gently glaring at him since no one noticed.

"What if Mattie comes, she is pregnant now and might..." Her words stopped when he shoved a steak into her mouth.

She glanced at them and just like she thought all eyes were on them, he acted nonchalantly.

"Julian... you do know you just announced marriage with my daughter right?"

"Yeah, any problem with what I just did?" Miles scoffed at this, even if he doesn’t have a good relationship with his sister he is frustrated with how his friend is beginning to act.

"Dude, you can just reject the marriage if you don’t want my sister and go for your ex-wife," Julain glanced at his friend.

"Can I?" Astrid eyes widened, she knew how crazy her ex-husband could be but not this nonchalantly.

"Enough... let’s eat.." The food was served, and Astrid was given a glass of milk but before she could talk Julian snatched it from her side and spoke up, his voice low and smooth. "She doesn’t like milk. She prefers orange juice."

Astrid’s eyes met Julian’s, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The tension between them was electric, and Astrid could feel the air vibrating with unspoken emotions.

Everyone glanced at Julian, surprised by his knowledge of Astrid’s preferences. He shrugged, a small smile playing on his lips. "She was my wife, once. These are basic things I should know."

Astrid rolled her eyes, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Erm... I need to use the restroom," she announced, already feeling right in her chest.

"The maid can..." Before Donald’s words could be completed she ran out of the dining room, she didn’t know where she was going but just allowed her legs to lead her.

Not until a familiar voice stopped her, "Fucking hell Mattie!" It was Stephan’s voice and she could tell it.

Only then did she recall they were both not in the dining room with them,

"There is no way I am allowing that!" Stephan’s voice echoed and Astrid’s curiosity got the better of her, and she crept closer to listen to the conversation.

"I am not going to let Julian be the father of the child of her unwanted pregnancy," She heard Stephan spat, his voice venomous. "I own it, and I will take responsibility for it."

Astrid’s eyes widened in shock as she clamped her hands over her mouth at the realization.

He was the one who had gotten Mattie pregnant, as it doesn’t belong to Julian.
