Chapter 163: THE MUSEUM

Chapter 163: THE MUSEUM

Astrid entered her grandfather’s office, where she found Mattie swooning over Donald.

She recalled what Mattie had done a few minutes ago and she was mad at this bitch. No matter what she doesn’t think she could ever be on good terms with Mattie.

"Grandfather!" she called excitedly as her grandfather stood from his seat in a hurry.

"Oh here comes my granddaughter finally!" Astrid’s eyes narrowed as she got to where Mattie was pushing her away and embraced her grandfather leaving Mattie to help and she stuck her tongue at her.

"Wow! Finally thought of coming to see me.." Astrid smiled and glanced at Mattie giving her a stink eye for ignoring her.

"Granddad, I have been here a while but they thought it was a scam so they didn’t want me to see you." Mattie’s eyes widened at this and Just then, Mattie piped up, trying to steer the conversation back to herself.

"Grandfather, I have some exciting news. I just landed a contract with Julian’s company. I will be the face of their new jewelry line."

Astrid’s eyes widened in shock. Despite what she had told him he still wasn’t ready to stay away from her.

What did she think? That he cares about her.

Donald noticed the look Astrid had on her face, he heard the news about their divorce and he knew she would be sad.

"Hey child, is there anything wrong?" she looked up at her grandfather and quickly shook her head, while Mattie scoffed.

Astrid’s eyes seemed to be watering, and git pushed Mattie aside as she tried to create some distance between herself and her grandfather.

"What’s wrong, Astrid? Donald asked again, his voice laced with concern. "You seem a bit...off."

Astrid tried brushing it off, but Donald could see the tension in her body.

Astrid remained tight-lipped, as Donald’s face fell, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness. He realized that Astrid still wasn’t used to him, so she couldn’t share her worries.

"I am sorry, Astrid," Donald said, making her have a surprised look.

"I know I haven’t been the best grandfather to you and Mattie. I was so caught up in my grief after your mother left that I neglected Mattie and didn’t even have an inkling of the idea that I have another granddaughter."

He then took a deep breath and continued. "I want you to know that I am truly sorry for my past mistakes. I have called you both here today because I want to spend quality time with you. I want to make up for lost time and be the grandfather I should have been all along."

Mattie looked up at Grandfather Donald, his eyes shining with excitement. Astrid, on the other hand, remained skeptical, her arms crossed over her chest though she was excited to be with her grandfather but the thought of what Juliam had done made her mad.

Just then, Jerkins appeared at the door. "Shall we leave for the car, sir?" he asked, his voice low.

Donald nodded, and he led them out of the office. As they walked, Donald couldn’t help but notice the way Astrid’s eyes seemed to cloud over, her expression growing increasingly somber. He made a mental note to try and cheer her up.

Finally, they got to their destination and alighted from the car, before their grandfather alighted Mattoe pulled Astrid closer.

"Astrid, I get that you have never received love before aside from my man, also heard you both separated today officially." Astrid eyes furrowed at this.

"Don’t you dare take my grandfather’s love from me now because I wouldn’t let it go easily," she warned just then they heard Donald’s voice.

"Come here, my little orchids." They both forced out a smile as they strolled toward him.

Astrid looked up at the building to see they had come to a museum, she was happy they came here because she could learn more.

They were led inside, and everywhere was quiet. Astrid needed no one to tell her that her grandfather’s arrival had made them evacuate the people who came visiting.

They were still walking around with the museum attendant explaining things to them.

Until something caught Astrid’s gaze and her eyes widened as she gazed at the breathtaking building before her; she was so lost that she didn’t know when they left her.

"Wow!" she exclaimed, her voice trembling with excitement she pulled out her phone and snapped it and then Donald noticed she did not want to follow them anymore.

He looked back and smiled, his eyes twinkling with curiosity as she was so caught up with the architecture building.

"What’s caught your attention, dear?" he asked, his voice warm and encouraging.

Astrid’s face lit up as she began to tell the story of the building.

"Yes, grandfather, this is the famous Bradbury Building," she said, her words spilling out in a rush.

"It was built in 1893 by George Herbert Wyman, and it’s considered one of the most iconic buildings in Los Angeles."

Grandfather Donald’s eyes sparkled with interest as Astrid continued.

"The building was originally designed as an office building, but it’s had many different uses over the years. It’s been a filming location for countless movies and TV shows, including the famous sci-fi movie ’Blade Runner’."

Astrid’s voice grew more animated as she spoke. "The building’s design is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian styles, with a beautiful courtyard and ornate ironwork. It’s like stepping into a different era when you walk inside."

Donald listened intently, his face aglow with pride, watching her explain even the attendant was stunned by how much she knew.

"Astrid, you are fascinating," he said, his voice filled with admiration. "I had no idea you knew so much about architecture."

Astrid beamed with pride, her eyes shining with excitement. "I have always loved buildings and design, because of Mum," she said, and he felt satisfied that his daughter could impact something in her daughter.

"And this building is one of my favorites. I have seen pictures of it online, but it’s even more beautiful in person."

She explains diligently as they all listen to her calmly as they begin touring around excitedly while Mattie would give Astrid a scowl on her face seeing she was getting her grandfather’s attention more than her.
