Chapter 136: ENOUGH PLAYING WITH HER FEELINGS

Astrid’s eyes widened in shock as she listened to Donald’s words. She couldn’t believe that her mother had a father, a powerful man who could have helped her, but she had refused to reach out to him.

Astrid’s gaze locked onto Donald’s face, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Wh... why didn’t you find her?" she asked, her voice barely above whispered sadly.

Donald’s eyes dropped, sadness etched on his face. "I know, and that is my fault," he admitted, his voice cracking.

"I shouldn’t have kept searching other countries and just searched around me." He struggled to hold back tears, his body shaking with sobs.

Astrid’s eyes shut tight, the feeling in her heart slowly turning to deep hatred. The drama felt so alive, and she couldn’t help but wonder if her mother’s death was more than just a coincidence.

She didn’t expect her mother’s death, and she was becoming suspicious about it. She wanted to know the reason why her mother had left her that way.

Just then, Dr. Lee walked in with some men in uniform, their faces etched with guilt. Astrid’s gaze locked onto them, her eyes narrowing. Donald gestured for them to wait outside, his eyes flashing with anger.

"I heard her death has caused you a great shock," Dr. Lee announced, his voice soft.

"I will leave you to have a good rest." He forced himself to stand up, but Astrid pulled him back by his hands.

Her eyes locked onto his face, her voice firm. "No, I don’t need rest," she said, her words laced with determination. "I need answers." she insisted.

Staring deep into his gaze, she bit her lip before letting the words bother him in her heart.

"If you are my grandfather," she let out a bit of fear laced in her eyes and a little hope.

"Does that mean I now have someone who is my family and who cares for me in the world like my mum?"

Donald almost breaks down at this, he doesn’t want to think about the shit this girl must have gone through.

If he wasn’t so stupid and hadn’t found his daughter she wouldn’t have died from cancer, he would have found the best treatment for her and not let her leave this world like that.

"Yes, my granddaughter," he answered. Sitting back down he pulled her and gently caressed her as the feeling of him caring for his daughter came through in his heart.

Astrid butted into tears as she embraced him tightly, those feelings in years when embracing his daughter fell through and he could no longer hold in the tears in his eyes.

"Gr... gra... grandpa." She stuttered and Maren felt so excited for her, she was able to see someone who would spoil her even before he asked for it.

Mattie was so furious at this, her grandfather had never shown her love for her and her brother.

It makes her wonder what her offense has been to always get the cold shoulder from him.

Tonia, seeing her daughter left, also went along with her, "Guess it’s best to give you time for your lovely moment." she gestured to Maren and they all walked out leaving them to be together.

There they came across Julian pacing around having a furious look. He wants to go inside and also comfort Astrid but the thought that she would get an episode seeing him close to her makes him frustrated.

Becky and her husband just sighed at this and walked off.

"What is the problem Dr Lee, why are you looking nervous?" Maren asked, recalling how some men came inside before Donald sent them out.

"The CCTV footage.. for that day was deleted," Julian who was pacing around glanced at him in shock.

His eyes narrowed, his voice firm. "Excuse me?" he asked, stunned.

Dr. Lee hesitated before speaking. "Well... we weren’t expecting to be wrecked that way."

Julian’s face twisted in anger. "We?" he growled, his eyes flashing with fury.

Dr. Lee took a step back, his hands raised in defense. "I... I mean..."

Julian suddenly sprang into action. He grabbed Dr. Lee, slamming him against the wall.

"I am giving you a few hours to find out and retrieve that deleted footage," Julian snarled, his eyes blazing with anger. "If you don’t, I will make sure you regret it."

Dr. Lee’s eyes widened in fear as he nodded frantically. "I will do it, I will do it," he stammered.

Julian released him, and Dr. Lee stumbled backward, gasping for breath. "I will go, I will go," he muttered, before turning and running out of the room.

Maren walked over to Julian, who was pacing back and forth. "So, she’s my cousin," Miles said, a hint of a smile on his face.

"No wonder I have always liked her the moment I set my eyes on her."

Marenexchanged chuckles. "You are such a tease, Miles."

Julian glared at Miles, but before he could respond, Dr. Lee ran back into the room. "Wait, I forgot to tell you something," he exclaimed. His eyes narrowed.

"What is it?" Dr. Lee hesitated before speaking.

"Mr. Rowan came to the hospital... and I didn’t think much of it at the time, but..." Miles’s eyes snapped to attention.

"What do you mean?" he asked, his voice sharp.

Dr. Lee swallowed hard. "They bonded quickly... and I wasn’t expecting them to have a bad feeling towards her."

Julian’s face darkened. "And you are just telling me this now?" he growled.

Dr. Lee took a step back, his eyes wide with fear. "I... I am sorry..."

Maren stepped forward, his voice calm. "Julian, I don’t think you should be concerned. If there’s someone who should be, it’s Miles."

Miles’s eyes narrowed. "Excuse me? Are you trying to piss me off, Maren?"

Maren’s smile grew wider. "No, but let’s think about it, though. You are married to her, you don’t care about her, but Mattie..."

Julian’s eyes flashed with anger, but Miles tapped him on the arm, giving him a warning gaze.

"Relax dude I wouldn’t like you using that tone on her," Julian glared at her.

"Get the fuck outta my far the both of you!" He wanted and Miles pulled Maren’s hand.

Maren’s voice rose in irritation, "What? You are rich, and I am also, so I have the right to tell you my mind if I may." She yelled, her face twisted in anger.

Miles pulled her roughly along, no matter how she struggled. "That’s enough, Maren," he growled, his eyes flashing with warning.

Just then, the door opened, and Donald walked out of the ward. Julian immediately ran to him, a look of concern etched on his face.

"Grandfather... how is she?" Julian asked, his voice trembling.

Donald stared at him, his eyes narrowing as he tilted his head. "Julian Logan," he called, his voice firm.

Julian nodded his head, his eyes locked onto Donald’s face. They were all family friends, so Julian knew Donald well since Julian’s late grandfather was Donald’s friend.

"The last time I checked, you got married. Why are you here hovering around my granddaughter when you dumped my other granddaughter?" Donald asked, his voice laced with accusation.

Julian’s face fell, and he was speechless for a moment. If there was someone who he was nervous around, it was Donald.

His father may be powerful and have a powerful name, but the Gilberts are the generational rich who dare disrespect them.

Becky spoke up from the corner, her voice soft. "She is the one he had mistakenly gotten married to, Father."

Donald’s eyes locked onto Julian’s face, his expression unyielding. "So, you are the one my daughter is crying for."

Julian’s eyes widened in confusion. "Crying...?"

Donald cut him off again. "Get divorced and go be with my other granddaughter. Enough playing with her feelings!"
