He gritted his teeth, a low growl escaping his throat. Unbeknownst to him, at the peripheral of his eyes, one could now see hints of a pitch void like colour creeping inward.

Not knowing, he tossed two pills into his mouth, swallowing them in a single motion without hesitation.

The familiar metallic tang hit his tongue, followed by a surge of heat that spread through his chest. Almost instantly, the system’s voice blared in his mind, its tone uncharacteristically urgent.

«[You idiot!]»

«[Consuming two Blood Pills simultaneously has a high risk of overwhelming your body!]»

«[ Are you trying to die?]» The words carried a rare edge of panic, completely different from the system’s usual mechanical calm.

Lin Mu cursed under his breath, his voice a harsh. "Keep Quite!" he snarled, his eyes squeezing shut as he focused inward, his body tensing against the sudden flood of energy.

The pills dissolved, releasing a double burst of qi that roared through his body like a wildfire, threatening to tear him apart. Veins bulged across his arms and neck, his skin flushing red like an asura as he gritted his teeth harder, his jaw still tender from Sasha’s blow made it even more unbearable.

Sweat beaded on his forehead, but he refused to yield, his will a steel anchor as he wrestled the energy into submission.

In an act of desperation, he quickly began using the active mode of nightshade breathing technique.

His breathing grew ragged, each inhale a battle, but he channeled the surge of energy with relentlessness, forcing it to flow where he needed it.

Minutes stretched into eternity, the room silent save for his labored breaths. Slowly, the chaos within him began to settle, the energy from the two pills merging into his flesh. strengthening his body even more.

He exhaled, his body trembling slightly, the bulging veins receding as the last of the energy was absorbed.

His eyes opened, sharp and resolute, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. He’d done it.

Lin Mu’s body stiffened hearing her mention his grandfather. His gaze turned unfocused, glancing at the desk in his room. He recalled when him and his grandfather would spend the night telling stories in this room of his or when he would take his time to help him with his studies.

Seeing that she’d struck a mark, the system continued.

’ Fine fine.’ Lin Mu relented. The system was right, doing that just now made him feel as if his body was on the verge of exploding.
