Chapter 50: System Artifact.
" System artifact? When did I get something like that?" Lin Mu felt confused. He couldn’t recall ever possessing such a thing.
«[The system Artifact is what you still refer to as your smartphone.]»
Only after the system clarified did Lin Mu take out his phone. He clicked on the Null God Cultivation System application and a new page emerged before him.
Some parts of the page were grey but one part was coloured, that part being the system shop option.
When Lin Mu clicked on it, A list of items appeared, each accompanied by a brief description and a cost in System Coins.
Blood Pills to enhance vitality, Dark-Spirit Grass to bolster Void Qi flow, Bone-Forging elixir to strengthen the skeletal structure, so on and so on. all tantalizing, yet every single item was marked for practitioners in the Body Refining Realm.
He guessed that he couldn’t see higher grade items due to his low cultivation base.
Lin Mu’s jaw tightened, a bitter taste rising in his throat. Seeing the price tags attached to each product, Lin Mu felt as if he was trying to claw his way to the peak of the Body Refining Realm, trying to temper his body through blood and pain, yet the system instead of offering him tools for a stage he wished to surpass, was putting it at arms length.
It was like being handed a child’s wooden sword to battle when you already had prior knowledge on how to wiled a steel blade. "Whats with high prices?!" he muttered, his voice sharp with frustration.
"10 gold coins for a blood bill?" Lin Mu didn’t know the equivalent of materials for one gold coin yet seeing the word gold made him feel apprehensive.
The system remained silent, its lack of response a cold rebuke. Lin Mu’s fingers curled into fists, his nails biting into his palms as he wrestled with the familiar sting of being underestimated.
He was no stranger to hardship, orphaned young, raised in a world that valued strength above all, he had fought for every scrap he could get his hands on. His angular face, often mistaken for stern, hid a relentless drive, a hunger to prove himself not just to his original world but to everyone and everything that dared to underestimate him.
The system’s offerings felt like a mockery of that ambition, yet he couldn’t afford to dwell on it. Though he was angry, he knew the system wasn’t to blame. The one to blame was the one who had created the system.
Even if the creator were to stand before him, he didn’t dare to entertain the thought of rebuking a literal god of nihility!
Well at least not as he was now. If he ever managed to reach that apex of strength as well, he would definitely give that creator a piece of his mind. But as for the moment. He needed to move forward, always forward and to never look back.
" I need to convert materials to gold coins... There’s no difference in that and before. I’ll need to gather beast meat for that but where and how do I get that." He wondered but the next moment.
" I got it!"
An idea sparked within his mind, and he rose from the mat, his movements fluid despite the lingering fatigue.
He stepped outside, the cool air brushing against his skin like a whisper, and sought out Mei and Lian. The two were near the central fire, their contrasting figures striking in the firelight. Mei, petite and blessed with a soothing air around her, her hair tied back with a strip of leather, was animatedly listening to some members of the hunting party recounting a hunt, her hands gesturing wildly as she mimicked a beast’s roar.
Her eyes, bright and mischievous, caught Lin Mu’s approach, and she grinned, revealing a chipped front tooth that gave her a roguish charm. " Brother Mu! You’re missing the best part!" she called, her voice carrying a playful lilt. " They were just telling me how they nearly got trampled by that boar."
Lian, standing beside her, rolled her eyes, her shoulders shifting as she crossed her arms. From the looks of it, she wasn’t entertained by the story at all. Which could probably be due to her wanting to join the males of the tribe in matters related to martial arts and combat instead of being held up in the camp all the time.
Taller than most in the tribe, with a face that seemed carved from stone, Lian’s calm demeanor masked a dry wit that surfaced only when she felt like it. Her deep voice sounded uninterested as he glanced at Lin Mu. " And what brings you here. I thought you retired for the night."
She adjusted a strand of her hair behind her ear, her beautiful azure face staring at him in silence.
Lin Mu offered a faint smile, though his mind was elsewhere. "I need your help," he said, his tone direct but not unkind. "I need beast meat, five kilograms, seventh-stage Body Refining Realm. Can you get it for me?"
Mei’s grin faltered. " 5kg... why would you need that much meat?" She leaned closer, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
"Hey... Brother Mu. What’s the meat for?" Mei couldn’t help thinking that he was still adamant on leaving and was trying to procure food for the trip.
Lin Mu’s expression remained guarded, his dark eyes meeting hers with a flicker of nervousness. " It’s just for Cultivation," he said simply, letting the word hang in the air. It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either. Mei’s curiosity was a force of nature, but she knew better than to pry too deeply. Worst comes to worse, she could just spy on him later she thought to herself.
Lian, ever practical, nodded. "They’re a few left after the last hunt. I’ll go get it." she turned toward the storage tent, this gave her a good excuse to escape the hunting parties tales.
Within the hour, they returned to his tent with the meat, the rich, iron scent of it filling the tent as Lin Mu accepted the wrapped bundle.
They had inquired about why he wanted it raw but didn’t give them much info so they dropped the issue.
