(5600) The Imperial Mountaineers’ troops were silently arrayed on the muddy battlefield, and on the other side lay the ice path that still hadn’t melted away even amidst the torrential downpour, as the bitter frost wind of December swept across the encampment, and masses of dispirited Rebel Highlanders were being escorted away to be detained in the Frodo Autonomous Region.
Thereafter, accompanied by a Dragon’s Chant, Elder Mantle descended from the sky; his Heart Light Body was driving away the clouds and rain in the sky, making the weather turn for the better, and shafts of sunlight began piercing through the gaps in the clouds, draping down like tangible ladders of light connecting heaven and earth.
Ian stood in front of the Rebel Highlanders’ command tent, with the chieftains and priests of the Imperial Mountaineers by his side, facing a group of people who were the leaders of the Rebel Highlanders.
These old acquaintances, or rather old rivals, looked at each other in silence, no words spoken.
The victor had no energy to care about the thoughts of the defeated, and watched Ian with subtly mixed expressions of unease, while the losers certainly wouldn’t pay attention to those trivial figures, holding their breath in silence, waiting for the true decision-maker to deliver their sentence.
But Ian remained silent, silently sizing everyone up.
When those silvery cyan eyes regarded anyone present with an indifferent look, the person being stared at would instinctively lower their gaze, not daring to meet the eyes of this young Lord of the Holy Ground.
——It seems that this group is reluctant to acknowledge the Dragon God’s Emissary, but they also dare not reveal this sentiment to Ian.
Elder Mantle’s arrival, on the contrary, resolved this awkward situation.
With just a glance at the situation within the camp, the old man understood what was going on.
No matter which Mountain Tribe chief it was, who would want an extra Steward over their head?
The Empire had given them autonomy, and even the Mountain People of the Empire’s side only did so out of greater fear of the Empire’s future reckoning, to have them accept Ian as the Dragon God’s Emissary from the bottom of their hearts was almost an impossible task.
The good thing is, most of the time, getting people to accept something does not require their willingness.
Elder Mantle stepped forward, looking at Chief Kord’s head, frozen in an ice pillar by Ian, with a sigh, “Kord was also an old rival of mine, I never thought that our ultimate confrontation would never take place, and he would die so abruptly.”
“After all, with Sio’s help.” Ian smiled, he calmly sat in his ice-forged chair, casually stating: “I don’t claim the credit.
I just tied up Kord’s initial offensives and took the opportunity to chop off his head while Kord was battling fiercely with Sio.”
“That’s quite inconceivable already.” Elder Mantle sentimentally said, “You entering the Second Energy Level, able to find opportunities in a Third Energy Level battle… I am old.
This world, in the end, is dependent on you young people.”
Crouched in a tent nearby, Sio’s true body lifted its head upon hearing the exchange between Ian and Elder Mantle, its large dragon eyes full of confusion—although Ian had already recited his lines to it on the way to the Frodo Autonomous Region, witnessing Ian actually manage to lie so convincingly without batting an eye still left it somewhat flabbergasted.
——How can he lie so believably, even truer than telling the truth?
Of course, people who can understand dragon expressions are few and far between among Humans, and Sio’s head lift, for the other Mountain Tribe leaders present, was clearly a significant ‘endorsement’ from the King of the Mountain’s side.
In the past, as a member of the Dragon Worship Cult and an Emissary from Dragon Island, the King of the Mountain usually did not interfere in the Mountain People’s affairs with its True Dragon identity, but only ruled over the Great Magical Beasts of the Bison Mountain Range, hence calling itself ‘King of the Mountain’, and not usurping the authority of the Bison Dragon God.
The Mountain People were grateful and willingly recognized the identity of the King of the Mountain as the King of the Bison’s Magical Beasts.
But now, with the Mountain People in turmoil and the Abode Tribe in an advantageous position…
Even the King of the Mountain, perhaps, needs to choose its spokesperson among the Mountain People, right?
Among the defeated Mountain Tribe, one chieftain slightly raised his head; he noticed the True Dragon’s movements and heard the conversation between Ian and Elder Mantle, and instinctively wanted to understand the current situation.
Then, he met Ian’s gaze.
This self-proclaimed Dragon God’s Emissary had shallow cyan eyes, like the color of the streams flowing through the Southern Ridge Mountains, reminiscent of the azure sky above, and his long hair was flowing with visible Inscriptions light streams, emanating from the cyan Origin Quality in the Dragonization Organ at his left hand that spread across his whole body, eventually converging into his steel-toned silvery white hair, accumulating incredible power.
The Iron Pattern Sword at his waist was not sheathed; it was merely covered by a layer of solid ice, which still bore the reddish-brown stain of blood, undoubtedly the blood of Chief Kord, lending an ominous implication.
And next, whose head will this sword sever?
——Could it be…
mine?!
The shallow cyan eyes held an unfathomable gaze as they met the eyes of the chieftain who unwittingly started to tremble.
Yet, at this moment, for some reason, this Mountain Tribes Chieftain’s thought process was extraordinarily swift and agile, far surpassing his past, which he took as a burst of clarity in danger and quickly realized something.
No matter what, Ian would definitely kill a few to assert his authority—it is the tradition of the South Ridge and also of Terra.
Without the oppression of blood and death, war is doomed to imperfection, let alone that this young man’s goal is to become the ‘Dragon God’s Emissary’?
The true issue is that Ian will certainly not kill all these defeated lot outright, as he still needs them to serve as exemplary figures, to proclaim his magnanimity, facilitating easier amalgamation and integration of other tribes in the future.
