Electric Blue’s mercenaries were still somewhat uneasy, even though they had considered the possibility of being conscripted by the local lord when they were sent here.
They were also amazed by Ian’s preparations and the various powerful defensive fortifications at night.
But actually seeing the Hillfolk Squadron, that was now close enough to the lakeside woods, preparing to break into the city from the flank, they couldn’t help but doubt, “With just under thirty of us and three Magnetic Storm Armors, can we really hold them off?”
[We’re not just relying on Magnetic Storm Armor]
Electric Blue, operating a Magnetic Storm Armor, said in a deep voice.
Over the past week, he had been assisting Ian and the people from the Alchemy Workshop in improving the Magnetic Storm Armor and coils.
Commanding the war machine that he had helped enhance, he was not the least bit nervous.
In fact, layers of electric blue currents were flickering on the surface of the armor: [Surround the Magnetic Storm Coil; Barehanded and Kudzu Horn, you energize the coil.]
[Whoever comes out of the woods first, guide the electric arc to blast them!]
The sneaking Hillfolk Squadron had just prepared to accelerate out of the woods and create chaos in the city, then break through Leyan City’s position from behind.
But as soon as they left the woods, they heard an odd yet instinctively menacing ‘sizzle’ of electricity.
A lightning arc of mingled blue and white struck down at the vanguard of the Hillfolk, instantly enveloping the leading soldiers in electric arcs without a sound, smoking slightly as they fell to the ground like logs.
The commander of this troop was greatly shocked; only then did he realize that Leyan City’s defense forces had actually deployed a team here as well.
Remembering the feeling of being struck by sky thunder before, he immediately got goosebumps and loudly steadied his troops, “Disperse formation!
The enemy doesn’t have many numbers, advance in a staggered approach!”
Most Electrokinesis Ascenders capable of controlling electricity serve in the army.
Their ability to disrupt communications and their speed have always made them leaders of vanguard troops, capable of silently leading their teams to strike at the weakest spots of the enemy and create massive destruction.
This captain was also an Electrokinesis Ascender, and he was very aware of the advantage of his abilities.
But nobody had attempted to bind lightning to the ground for use in defensive positions.
“It’s that tower!” a soldier yelled.
The Magnetic Storm Coil was indeed very conspicuous, especially the dangerously flickering electric arcs that made it very clear to everyone that it was the core.
Two Magnetic Storm Armors stood at the base of this tower, releasing arcs to energize the coil, making the light at the top of the coil even more glaring.
“Throw out the spare weapons to divert the electricity!”
Commander of the Mountain Troops was indeed excellent, having already thought of countermeasures.
He took his metal hand axe from his waist and threw it high towards the Magnetic Storm Coil, decisively ordering, “First and second squads, charge with me!”
At the commander’s signal, the Hillfolk troops threw a large number of flying axes and knives towards the Magnetic Storm Coil, darkening the sky like a small patch of clouds.
The thunder from the Magnetic Storm Coil struck, but it hit these metal weapons and not the men.
Seeing this, the commander breathed a sigh of relief.
Judging by the humidity as the troops advanced, as long as the first wave of attacks from the Magnetic Storm Coil was diverted, he could rush to the fortifications and lead his team to deliver a fatal blow to the city defenders.
Unfortunately, they had grossly underestimated the preparations of Leyan City.
A Hillfolk soldier, stepping on the ground, felt as if he stepped on something hard.
Before he could lift his foot, he already sensed trouble, but it was too late to think.
An explosion burst forth beneath his feet.
Time seemed to freeze at that moment.
The Hillfolk commander slowly widened his eyes as he saw a fellow soldier beside him hurled into the air by a mine explosion from beneath, with high-speed metal shrapnel striking dents in his armor.
The scattered blood of the soldier drifted in mid-air, carrying the warm and real breath of life, along with the scent of death.
Then came continuous explosions, and soldiers were being blasted into the air by mines, many of whom did not die thanks to the Terra People’s exceptional physical constitution and the quality of their armor, as the equipment provided by Fiery Flame Land was of regular army grade.
But this only added to their despair.
Wails rose on the battlefield as the Hillfolk’s ranks began to slow down as fast as they could, even retreating, while the energized light stream of the Magnetic Storm Coil lit up once more.
“Damn Imperial People!” the commander knew that the situation was lost.
Even though there were still more than two hundred and fifty surviving troops, a crushing advantage over the defending forces, he no longer could launch a second charge.
He raised his sword, preparing for one last charge, while Electric Blue did not even look at him and turned back to energize the Magnetic Storm Coil.
The light surged.
A lightning arc struck, hitting the Hillfolk commander.
The Magnetic Storm Coil pulsated with unceasing light streams, equally turning everything to ash.
The Hillfolk’s surprise attack had failed.
Back at the Mountain People’s headquarters, Tiechen was commanding the troops to exchange fire with the defenders, his heart gradually sinking.
—Sheyan and Zhenzhou, two people chasing one, even in Armor Suit versus flesh, should have captured that White Folks kid by now.
Why haven’t they come back yet?
Although this wouldn’t cause them to lose the honor of recapturing Leyan City, the Chieftain’s heart suddenly harbored a possibility he dared not believe: “Could it be that the white-haired kid is really that tough, and he got away?”
