Chapter 1091: Chapter 149: Unbearable to Look At, Simply Unbearable! (6500)

“Drug them?”

Master Gravie spoke with a confused tone: “Are you talking about relying on alchemical potions? But this is the sea, and the number of enemies is thousands of sea beasts… Although not all are magical beasts, their collective power is still comparable to several fleets.”

“The heavy rain and waves will dilute your potions, making it difficult for poisons or harmful potions to take effect. Ian, this is very challenging.”

“You’ve misunderstood my approach.”

But Ian was very confident: “I don’t plan to attack them with poison… I just want to give those sea beasts’ perception systems a little help.”

“Help them find their true desires.”

Ian and Master Gravie left the room and quickly headed straight to the deck of the Siren. Along the way, they saw many crew members and knight guardians busily moving around, mostly at their combat posts, resisting the sea beasts that were continuously approaching.

It was currently raining heavily, the sea and sky were pitch black, and countless shadows lurked and wriggled beneath the tides.

With each violent fluctuation of source quality, surging water columns and blades of water approached the Siren beneath the tides, while above the sea, powerful individuals within the tribes stirred up the wind and rain, condensing endless seawater into icy cannonballs which they hurled at the Siren.

In response, a hexagonal grid-like shield rose around the Siren, which was usually used in city defense. With the Siren’s strategic-grade alchemy furnace, it can powerfully drive the city defense shield for over three hours without affecting propulsion, and three hours is enough to hold out until the Empire and Canaan Moore’s nearby fleets arrive.

As long as Captain Elden can hold off the other three Lightcore magical beasts, the Siren can protect itself amidst the beast tide.

In theory.

Icy cannonballs crashed onto the shield, shattering into countless icy fragments, and the booming cannon fire was like thunder exploding in the rainstorm, continuously and without pause, as the dark and tranquil Yongji Ocean surface was turned into a battlefield, repeatedly illuminated by man-made lightning.

Currently, both sides were still balanced; the magic beast tribes weren’t foolish enough to charge into the Siren’s firepower zone, braving the power of humans’ deepwater bombs and alchemical cannons, yet the ocean was their home turf, and by manipulating the surrounding tides, the magical beasts steadily approached the Siren.

Just earlier, a Demon Beast Level Ironscale Sea Snake had forcibly broken through the defenses, trying to ram the Siren’s hull. Though it was repelled by a shipboard Sublimator, it still caused the explosion that previously alerted Ian and Master Gravie.

With the eye of a Sublimator, and thanks to the light from the explosion, Ian could clearly see the true form of the magical beasts hidden beneath the tides.

The three magic beast tribes attacking the Siren were ‘Wandering Colossal Snail,’ ‘Disaster-star Starfish,’ and ‘Ironscale Sea Snake.’

The Drifting Conch is a material for many water attribute True Forms. Those inheritances that need to survive at sea for long periods and maintain prolonged mobility all require the ‘Perpetual Muscle’ of the Drifting Conch. This hydrophilic muscle not only moves like a heart muscle for extended periods with great resilience but can also absorb energy from surrounding tidal fluctuations.

This is also why the Drifting Conch is one of the primary magical beasts hunted by sea hunters and adventurers. In retaliation, this tribe often attacks coastal trade convoys and is an extremely aggressive magical beast.

The Calamity Starfish is known for its deadly poison, nearly rivaling the land’s most venomous Nine-headed Hydra Dragon, although it lacks the Hydra Dragon’s potent corrosiveness and mutability, so there is an antidote. Because of its stability, its toxin is a raw material for many Originium Plagues. It also bears a grudge against Humans.

As for the Ironscale Sea Snake… a common magic beast tribe, it reproduces well, is easy to breed, and progresses easily, with high numbers, and its limits aren’t low either, hence there are many powerful individuals within the tribe. The large sea snake Ian saw back at Harrison Port was a branch of the Ironscale Sea Snake.

Evidently, these three magic beasts aren’t very afraid of poison.

The Conch tribe uses a lot of poison themselves, it’s uncertain who would poison whom with the Calamity Starfish, and as a metal-based lifeform, the Ironscale Sea Snake has extraordinary resistance to toxins, far beyond the imagination of regular carbon-based lifeforms.

This is why Master Gravie disagreed with Ian’s idea of drugging them.

But he didn’t know Ian never directly used poison.

Using poison in a natural environment, even the most toxic might not have much effect—don’t underestimate the ocean of Terra, just like there’s a Spirit of the Forests within the forests of South Ridge, Ian couldn’t quite guarantee there wasn’t a ‘Great Marine Ensemble’ made up of countless marine microorganisms in the ocean.

All he would do is give a gentle push to the creatures’ desires.

“Indeed, they are suitable targets.”

Ian and Master Gravie stood on the deck, and upon confirming the enemy’s magical beast species, Ian slightly nodded: “All are social magical beasts, types quite sensitive to pheromones.”

At this moment, some crew members had noticed the two passengers who hadn’t gone to shelter. The passengers of the Siren were either rich or noble, and if something happened, none of them would be willing to take responsibility, so they intended to persuade the two to leave.

But as the crew approached, Ian unceremoniously instructed: “Capture one of each of these three types of magical beasts, Master Gravie and I have methods to deal with them.”

“Sir, your request…”

The elf crew member, seeing Ian’s overly youthful appearance, found it troublesome and looked at Master Gravie beside him. The elder elf glared at him: “Didn’t you hear? Do as he says, it’s my intention too!”
