A Villain's POV -
Chapter 39: Defeating a Rank one wolf
Chapter 39: Defeating a Rank one wolf
Raze stared at the wolf that was slowly approaching. This wasn’t supposed to be how it was—he had met too many ranked beasts in this forest, and it wasn’t like that in the story.
"This is bad," Raze said. He tried to control his breathing as he gripped his sword, his eyes trained on the wolf.
"That wolf seems different from the others," Joel said.
"It’s a rank one wolf," Raze said, and his statement immediately threw Joel into panic. He started shaking, almost unable to stand on his feet.
Raze glanced at Joel, and a thought came to his mind. Should I use him as a distraction? I might be able to win if I do so. Raze thought, but after a few seconds of thinking, he decided not to—there were too many issues that would come with the death of Joel right now.
"I don’t think you can help me here, so unless you want me to end up using you as a distraction for the wolf, I suggest you start running now," Raze said to Joel.
"Huh?" Joel asked in confusion.
"Run, you fucking idiot!" Raze yelled and snapped Joel out of his confusion. Joel immediately turned tail and ran into the forest. The moment he started running, the wolf also charged at them.
The wolf jumped over the stream with ease. It landed on the other side and immediately came running for Raze. Raze held up his sword, taking a stance that would not put too much pressure on his injured leg.
The wolf saw that Raze was not running away. It increased its speed, wanting to take Raze out in one motion. It leaped at Raze, but Raze used his dome at the right moment, and the wolf slammed against it. The force of its movement shattered the dome, but it managed to stop the wolf—and that was what Raze wanted.
Raze used Void Step. He was slower due to his leg, but he was still much faster than his normal speed. He made it to the wolf and then used Phantom Blade.
The wolf tried to dodge the blade, but that was the Phantom Blade—the real blade struck the wolf on the body. However, the wolf had crazy fast reflexes. As soon as the blade touched its body and started cutting, it jumped backward, only sustaining a shallow cut.
The wolf moved in again. Raze was still in the motion of the slash that he expected to have ended it all. The wolf used its horn and, with a violent rush, thrust it deep into Raze’s lower abdomen.
Pain shot all over his body. Raze stumbled back and fell to the ground, his hands instinctively covering the stab wound as he groaned in pain.
The wolf stood over Raze, looking down at the weak human. It refused to go in for the kill, just watching Raze closely. But then, suddenly, Raze used his dome—the dome pushed the wolf up into the air.
Raze pushed himself up as fast as he could, gritting his teeth through the pain, and then he shot spatial blades at the wolf, which was falling. The wolf tried to dodge, but that was difficult to do while mid-air. The blades hit the wolf and cut it up pretty badly.
When the wolf landed on the ground, a pool of blood formed under it. It looked at Raze with pure hatred. Raze stared back at it with the same look in his eyes.
He used one of his arms to cover his bleeding stomach while using his second hand to hold his sword.
The wolf charged at Raze, going full speed toward him. Raze raised his sword, making it look like he was going to fight back, but when the wolf was close, Raze used his Void Step again. This time, however, he put too much weight on his injured leg—he tripped and fell to the ground, rolling a good distance.
"Arghhh, fuck," he cursed as he came to a stop. He pushed himself up slowly and saw the wolf already running in his direction.
"Seriously, this guy needs to take a rest," Raze said. He waited again, and when the wolf was close, he used the same technique—or at least made the wolf think he was using the same technique.
With Void Steps, he charged. The wolf expected that Raze would come from the side, but Raze didn’t do that this time—he charged straight in.
The wolf was thrown off by this little change. Raze slashed down, his blade hitting the head of the wolf, cutting off the silver horn on its head.
Raze grabbed the horn as fast as he could. The wolf was stunned and in pain over the horn that had been cut off. Raze used the horn in one hand and stabbed into the eye of the wolf as swiftly as he could.
The wolf let out a loud cry of pain and tried to run away, but Raze was not going to allow the wolf to go. He quickly drove his sword right through the neck of the wolf and pinned it to the ground.
The wolf struggled on the ground, blood pouring out of its neck. Raze sat close to the wolf and watched it struggle. He placed his hand on his wound as well, trying to keep himself from bleeding out.
His vision started getting fuzzy from blood loss, but he didn’t panic too much.
