Chapter 38: Rank one Wolf

Raze looked at Joel. "This fight is about to get real, and I am not going to watch your back. So you see that stream? That is your ticket out if you are going to make it out of here alive. Immediately when I say go, run for the stream and make it across," Raze said.

The growling of the wolves had already started getting louder. Raze knew that it was only a matter of a few seconds before they attacked. He tried to keep his calm, taking deep, long breaths.

After close to thirty seconds, the first wolf leaped out of the darkness, and then the rest followed, coming in from all the angles in front of them.

"Go, now!" Raze yelled and charged for the water, running as fast as his feet could carry him. Joel did the same, and they both got into the stream and crossed it as fast as they could.

As they got out on the other side, Raze stood and faced the wolves. The wolves all leaped into the water and started swimming across. Raze took this as his opportunity. He started shooting spatial blades one after another at the wolves. He hit a couple and caused them to bleed out, but they were still alive, only injured.

The wolves managed to get themselves to the other side. Raze quickly moved with his sword and stabbed the first wolf that made it across, right through the lungs.

He pulled out the blade and retreated as fast as he could because the other wolves had come out of the water.

The wolf he stabbed struggled for a moment and then finally died on the ground.

This guy... he had leveled up. Raze could not be bothered with that right now because the remaining wolves were already charging at him.

Joel, on the other hand, ran until he found a tree to hide behind. He watched with a trembling body as Raze was about to take on the whole pack.

Raze waited for the wolves to close in, and then he used Spatial Veil and vanished. The wolves got confused for a moment, and that moment was all Raze needed to attack another wolf and cleanly slash its head off.

But that slash was the only one he would get because the wolves caught his scent, his footsteps, and the blood of their fellow wolf on his blade.

With that, they knew exactly where Raze was standing, and they attacked all at the same time. Since the veil was useless now, Raze stopped casting it and used his dome instead, blocking all the wolves at the same time.

The wolves slammed into the dome, all crying in pain. Raze used that moment to use Void Step and get behind another wolf. He raised his blade to strike, but what he never expected was for another wolf to suddenly bite him at the back of his leg.

"Arggggh!" Raze let out a pained cry, his mind shooting into hyperspeed thought. If he tried to kill the one that bit him, the one right in front of him would surely attack him. So he had to grit his teeth and stab the one in front of him first.

He bore the pain of a wolf pulling on the back of his leg to rip it apart, then pulled out his sword, and with fury, he stabbed it backward, right through the neck of the wolf behind him.

Raze used Void Step to get away. He looked at the remaining wolves as they stared at him. His leg was bleeding out like crazy.

Only four wolves remained at this point, but he was heavily injured now, and movement would become an issue.

Raze started thinking of what to do and how to handle the situation, but then a large piece of rock flew out of nowhere and slammed into the head of one of the wolves, killing it instantly.

This shocked the wolves, and Raze immediately used that to his favor. He used his good leg and propelled himself toward one of the distracted wolves. He shot out two spatial blades that landed deep cuts on its legs and brought it to the ground. He then stabbed the wolf and killed it.

The other two wolves picked up on what Raze was doing, and they immediately tried to attack him, but another rock came flying in. This time, it didn’t manage to hit another wolf, but it distracted the wolves and gave Raze enough time to use his dome.

The wolves attacked again, only to be blocked by the dome. Then Raze charged in for the counter. Faster than the wolf could react, he cut off its head cleanly.

He didn’t stop after that one. He moved fast and stabbed into the chest of the last wolf, killing it.

Immediately after he killed the last wolf, he fell on his butt. His breathing was haggard, and he was tired.

Joel came out from where he was hiding and ran to Raze to see if he was fine. Raze looked at Joel beside him and spoke.

"You actually helped. Guess you aren’t good for nothing," Raze said.

"You really know how to piss someone off, even when you are trying not to," Joel said.

"Who said I wasn’t trying to?" Raze said with a smile. But that smile faded as he heard a low growl from the forest across the stream.

Then the wolf walked out, standing at a meter tall, with shiny silver fur and crimson red eyes. The aura it gave off was worse than that of the rank-one monkey.

This was a rank-one wolf—the leader of the pack they had just murdered.

"This should not be happening," Raze said.
