Chapter 98: Fishing Competition Part 3

The cheers of the crowd are booming. Even the participants of the competition are cheering and the cheers drown out the voices of the emcees. Elaina could only lip-read a bit about what they were talking about and hear minor things about what they were saying.

Thankfully, the cheering stopped and the voices of the emcees were once again heard once more.

"Alright, without further ado, we will begin to explain the rules of the Fishing Competition! Last year, the fisherman who fishes the most fishes will win. But this time around, we will add another condition for the winner to be a bit more versatile in choosing who will win or not," A said as he showed a hologram photo using a hologram stone that captures the scenes clearly from a scene and it seems those scenes are from the previous fishing competition.

"Yes indeed. And because last year, we did get a few people who got low catches but had impressive fish sizes that they have caught in their lines, we decided that this year will have an additional factor for winning the competition. Since it is unavoidable for all contestants to catch a big fish, this will be added as part of the scoring. Catching many fish is still the same, but if you get a big fish, depending on how big it is, it will be added to the score of your overall catch, and the bigger the fish, the bigger the score. So not only do you guys need to catch a lot of fish to win, but you guys should also aim for the big fish as well!" Z raised her fist into the air, which made the contestants cheer loudly.

Elaina has not experienced the previous fishing contest but based on what she heard in the previous rulings, this year’s scoring system will matter on how big their catch is alongside the number of caught fish. So both size and quantity will now matter.

"Now that we have explained the rules, please be ready contestants, I am quite sure you guys are still wearing the bracelet yes? Then raise the arm that has the bracelets into the air."

Everyone raises their hands including Elaina, not sure what will happen next. The two emcees looked at each other and began their short countdown.

"3, 2, 1... THE ANNUAL DARCERO BEACH FEST IS NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN!"

Before Elaina could react, she felt like she was pulled from where she was standing and got stretched for a few milliseconds then reappeared on top of a boat.

"Eh?" Elaina looked around her and realized that she was now in the middle of the ocean with a boat to ride while fishing and aside from the little artifact that seemed to be giving out the voice of the emcees, it seemed that was the only case.

She can make out the other participants but they are far out on the horizon. The floating artifact started to speak while Elaina sat down on the boat.

"Ah, right. For those who are new, don’t worry about the boat flipping over as this was designed for the boat to remain balanced and afloat while fishing to avoid toppling the contestant over to the water. So shake the boat to your heart’s content. But it is not our concern if you fall into the water, the boat will just prevent you from turning over from all the shaking. Good luck to all contestants out there and hope that you all fish big fishes for the pot!"

After saying that, the flying artifact went quiet again. Elaina sighed and sat down on the boat. She has experience in small boats before so Elaina is quite familiar with it, and thanks to the explanation, she also knows that it will not topple over unless she falls to the water due to her own movements.

Elaina shook the boat a few times and it was indeed not gonna topple over and no matter how strong it will be shaken, it won’t topple over. Knowing this, Elaina relaxed before taking the fishing rod out and putting bait on the hook.

"Alright. Let’s get this started."

While the fishing contest was underway, the little kid in the cavern woke up. She looked around the place and realized that her mother was gone. She made some noises that were befitting to a small creature like her. She does resemble a human baby but she has scales and her hands and legs are webbed, making her different.

And compared to humans, they are much more mature than literal babies. Still, she is considered a baby as she was just born, LITERALLY, just the other day. But due to her not being a human, she isn’t as helpless as a newborn baby. More like she is still an uneducated toddler who is still learning the world.

After she realized that her mother was missing, she started to crawl around the little cove to amuse herself. But the little cove is too small for her to find anything amusing to even find aside from herself so she decided to return to sleep.

Didn’t work as she felt the hunger in her stomach, begging for her to obey her needs and eat something. She started to look around for food to eat. There are trees around but they are too tall for her and she is too small for it, there is also very little space for her around so aside from the rock wall behind her and the small beach of the cove, nothing else is there. She didn’t give up, looked around and tried to look for something else and after a while, she saw a few moss around the rock walls. She tried to peel one and saw that it could be done so, quickly shoved it to her mouth.

"PEH!"

She immediately spit out the moss in her mouth as she didn’t like the taste of it. Despite that, she didn’t give up and started looking for other stuff in the little cove she was in. If there were fruits or even some little creatures there, it would have been a good way. But there is no food in the vicinity.

As she continued to look for food, her eyes then landed on the nearest deep water of the cove. Since the cove’s water is deceptively deep near the beach, a small walk to the water and they will immediately be deep into the water as a result.

Below the deep water are a few figures of fish swimming underwater. She immediately recognized them as one of the things she had eaten before back when she was just born. Seeing them swim around, she didn’t hesitate to jump into the water and started chasing over to the fish swimming around.

And she begins to chase the fish. They are quick but she is quicker and she is a quick swimmer, allowing her to catch up to the fishes she has chased underwater and started eating them.

She is quite a big eater and despite her small size, her looks can be deceiving as she starts to eat more and more. Finally, her eyes landed on something floating and some fish were even swimming around it. It is a round thing with something wriggling over the hook. She is not sure what it was but in her mind, it does look yummy.

Without even thinking, she quickly took a bite without thinking much and before she knew it, she was pulled out from underwater.

Elaina is not sure what is happening. She managed to catch 5 fish after starting but after that, no fish ever took a bite. She is patient when it comes to fish but for some reason, there is something wrong and she can feel that there is one variable currently stopping her from getting any fish she was supposed to catch.

But because she knew that fishing was something that also needed patience, she steeled herself and meditated for a while, waiting for the fishing rod in her hands to tug and get something to bite. 5 fish are not enough and they aren’t big enough for her to consider it a winning catch either.

She thought it would take a long time but then, the line was tugged and it is very violent this time around.

"A big fish finally?" Elaina quickly tugs the fishing rod hard to pull it out of the water but the one biting underwater is also tugging hard.

"Oh no, you don’t!" Elaina reeled in the line as she continued to tug the fishing rod. It is heavy but she is not going to just stop there and let the catch escape.

She can feel the one biting is big. It is not an ordinary fish for sure and Elaina can tell this might be one of the biggest catches she would ever get in her fishing career.

She continues the battle as she tugs the fishing pole again and again while also reeling the line harder as well.

"ORRAAAAAAA!" Elaina used all her strength to pull the line and when she thought the line would snap, the catch was finally pulled out of the water but instead of a fish, it was little baby girl, biting to the bobber of the fishing rod.
