Chapter 61: The Prince and the First Princess

After the incident of the kobold attack at Elaina’s farm, the group of people who were observing in the distance returned to their base of operation where the person who ordered them to find the Second Princess is currently waiting.

"We have returned!" the leader of the group landed in front of the two people sitting and discussing a few things. The two turned around when the men arrived and the guy who turned out to be the prince stood up.

"Seeing that you lot are all here now, means you all have the information we needed to find our sister?"

"Yes sir! We now know where your sister is currently staying. We don’t see the pet bear of Princess Margaux but she is currently in safe hands right now."

This time around the other person who turned out to be the First Princess turned around to speak to the men.

"She is staying in a stranger’s house, correct? How can we know that she is safe there? She might be hanging out with insidious people for all we know! If we know that she is indeed with dangerous people, I will not hesitate to rip them to shreds."

The leader shook his head. "I am sorry to say this Princess, but even if you tried, I don’t think you can even try to rip them to shreds in any way. No offense, but even you would have trouble against the one Princess Margaux is currently staying at."

Hearing this, instead of getting offended, the First Princess seems to have gotten interested for once.

"Oh? Someone I can’t best? Me, who has already been dubbed as one of the strongest swordswoman in the kingdom?"

"I don’t doubt your ability, Princess Tabatha, but this person we are talking about seems to be more experienced and stronger than you. Based on how her movements are done, and how efficient she is in combat, she will undoubtedly mop the floor of you instead. She is that good," the leader said while hanging his head low.

The Prince frowned. "Hold on, I know that you guys are saying that the one who helped my sister is someone strong, but how come you guys know she is strong? Did you guys engage the person in question in combat?"

"No sir, we only observed in the distance. We happened to see an attack of the kobolds on where the princess was staying because the place they were currently in was the nearest house that could access the forest and nearby dungeon. They defended the area with just two people. No help from the guild and just dealt with a group of kobolds carrying weapons of different kinds. They have dealt with the problem in just a matter of minutes."

The first princess frowned upon hearing this. "A few minutes? Two people are too little to deal with a group of kobolds at night. I heard that the kobolds here group up to at least a few dozen in one group and they all hunt together. There is no way they can hold off these numbers with just two people."

"But it is what we witnessed. The swordswoman is more the one who dealt the most damage as she quickly defeated most of the enemies. The one who helped her is a magician who only holds off a few monsters who are too quick for the swordswoman to catch or busy to deal with. After they dealt with the horde of Kobold, we left to tell the news."

"I see. And the fact that the one who helped my sister is a woman is also quite assuring for me than if a man helped her. But I can’t help but be suspicious, how come we didn’t know someone like this swordswoman has shown herself in our records? If she is that strong, shouldn’t she be someone well-known?" the Prince scratched his chin.

"Based on our earlier investigations, the swordswoman...is not a real swordswoman. She is a farmer. From the looks of it, the sword in her hands is something that she only uses from time to time, or perhaps a sword she only uses to hunt as we gathered information that this farmer also hunts monsters from time to time in the forest with her assistant who is a magician."

The prince and the first princess couldn’t believe what they had heard from their info gatherers. And the fact that they reported it immediately on them, means that the information is accurate.

"Is there any sort of more information you can give on us?"

"Based on what we heard, it seems the second princess does not want to go home just yet. The one who helped her, especially the magician suggested giving her back in exchange for money, but it seems they changed their mind after the farmer herself said that they should respect the decision of the princess and would just let her go back to us if the second princess wishes to do so."

Princess Tabatha sighed. "It seems that she is indeed safe in their hands and the fact that the farmer is not tempted by money and instead respected the wishes of my sister proves that this person is indeed a good one. However, regardless of that reasoning, we still needed to head there and talk to my sister. We can only calm down if we are sure that she is in good hands."

"Then, should we visit her tomorrow?" the prince asked.

"We should. We already know why she decided to run away and we already expected her to throw a tantrum on it, but running away without warning is something we didn’t expect her to do. We should make it easy for her to at least understand her role as the princess of the kingdom. She might be a child right now, but sooner or later, she will have to accept the role she is currently holding and she can’t always keep on using her status as a kid to always get away," Princess Tabatha firmly said.

"Sis, I know what you meant but go easy on Margaux. She understands her role, but scolding her and letting her see the role forcefully would just cause more hate on her than she will ever have. We also needed to listen to her and her feelings. You know you understand that since you also did the same thing," the prince shook his head.

"..." Princess Tabatha went silent with her head turned away.

"We should only worry about these things tomorrow. Right now, we should prepare for the soldiers to return to their post now that we know her location. Tomorrow, we will visit her and the ones who currently decided to keep her in. Rest well for the night.

After that, the prince left the tent, leaving Princess Tabatha. The others also bid farewell as well as they returned to their respective roles as observers in the shadows.

Tabatha gritted her teeth and slammed her hands on the desk. "I know how it feels. But there is nothing we can do especially since we are royalty. It doesn’t matter if you are hurt or not, in favor or not in favor. The result will always be the same. As if I will forget all of that..."

It wouldn’t take long before the ways of Elaina and the royalty of Darcero Kingdom would soon collide. It might not be the beginning of conflict, but it will soon build up that will soon stack up in the very future.
