Chapter 55: Seller of Rare and Taboo Goods

Elaina was not expecting to hear it. Taboo goods and even rare goods that cannot be purchased anywhere? And on top of that, this wandering merchant also buys goods that catch its eye.

"It seems you are not believing me, are you? Well then, to make sure you believe me, here, have a good look at one of the things I will be showing you."

The person or entity inside the carriage rummages inside before putting out a tray containing a red jewel that exudes a very ominous aura. Just from the aura alone, Elaina can tell this is one of those "taboo items" that this guy mentioned.

"This is called the Gem of Draining. This gem drains the life of whoever, or whatever lifeform it touches. It can only be used once but this is very useful for many things."

Elaina was shocked. She has heard of this gem before and it is indeed one of the taboo items that are banned in markets and even in auctions due to the danger it currently possesses. And because the Gem of Draining is something that cannot be sold in the open, those who want to use it will have to look for someone who currently sells it as it is not something that will be sold everywhere.

"Now, do you believe me? You don’t need to worry about it, I only sell my goods to trustworthy individuals that I can say are worth my time and effort to sell things to, you don’t have to worry about the taboo item I have just shown you. It is something I don’t sell right now and it is only with me as a self-defense tool for myself."

"Are you sure you sell things that cannot be sold anywhere?"

"Yes. But That is not the only thing I sell, I also sell those that can be sold to other stores, but they will be much cheaper to buy from me, so checking on my stock every time I visit might be worth your time. You don’t even need to buy things from me as I can understand if some of my goods are plain expensive or just not worth your palate, but it does not hurt to try and see what you can find right? Hihihi."

The entity’s laugh made Elaina a bit suspicious about this guy but because of what it was offering, Elaina was somewhat enticed to have a look. Since the entity wouldn’t be angry if she wanted to see and look for herself what it would be selling, she decided to ask.

"Alright then, if what you said is true, show me your wares. Let me see what you are selling me."

"Very well! Hihihi, take your time and see for yourself. Perhaps, you can fancy an item or two from my selection."

The entity inside snaps its fingers and a holographic magic appears before Elaina. It kind of reminds her of the same way the gods are communicating with her, but this one is something that shows her that the goods she was seeing are being sold.

Elaina browsed the selection and she saw a few items that are marked in a question mark.

"What’s these things with question marks?" Elaina asked.

"Hihihi, ah, those things? Those are goods that I am currently in my possession but something that I can’t show or sell to you because I still have not much trust to show on you. If you somehow become more reliable for me to conduct business with, I will start showing you those things and you will be able to purchase them along the line."

Elaina understood. This is a pretty standard rule, therefore, she begins browsing. There are indeed rare things on his lineup. Obsidian rocks, diamonds, some gadgets that are hard to come by that she either has seen or heard of and even some normal items. She even saw a few weapons as well as bags of seeds for crops. The ones she saw on the selection were seeds for eggplant, tomatoes, and blueberries. They are the normal kind variant, but they are much cheaper than what she remembered back in the store. Although limited in stock, she can save a lot of money if she buys those seeds instead of heading to the market and buying seeds there.

"These...these are all so cheap!" Elaina was not expecting it.

"Hihihi, right? Don’t worry. Those seeds are normal and they don’t have any side effects if you thought there were any since it was so cheaper than the normal seeds in the market. It is just something that I acquired cheaper as well, so I sell them cheap too. I don’t have them always with me which is why they are time-limited edition stuff. Next time I visit, these deals will or will not be here depending on my selection. So buy now if you don’t want to miss the deal."

Elaina was conflicted at first. Not only were these seeds cheap, but this was something she could save a lot of money from if she bought them from this suspicious merchant. As she is having second thoughts, the god of farming suddenly speaks to her.

"[Grab the opportunity and buy it. It is a great deal and you can save a lot of money. Don’t worry, like what the guy said, it is just your average seeds without side effects. It is just slightly cheaper than usual, but that’s it.]"

"Wait, you are looking at the goods as well?"

"[Yes. I can see the usefulness of wandering merchants like this guy. Since he said he sells rare and taboo materials, not only you will have a chance to buy something that is not available for you, but you need, but there is a chance that there are some goods that can indeed help you. You should take the opportunity and take it.]"

This one made Elaina confident and immediately bought the seeds. She grabbed her money and paid for the prices of the seeds, officially marking all of those seeds she bought from him sold out. Now she slowly understands. Even if she doesn’t want to use taboo items or even buy any rare items, there will come a time when she might have a chance to buy and use it therefore, this will be a big thing for her.

"Hihihi, thanks for the purchase. Is there anything that catches your eye?" the merchant giggled with its weird laugh while waiting for Elaina.

"Not for now. Although you have some interesting stuff being sold, I don’t think I will be using or getting those things any uses if I buy them therefore, I am content with my purchase."

"If that is the case, then thank you for your patronage. I will remain here until this afternoon before I leave once more. Until then, you are free to check my goods if you change your mind."

Elaina nodded and then asked a question. "Are you always going to come here in the future?"

"I come here once every end of the month. So if you want to purchase from me, you will have to wait for a few while before you can check my selection of goods once more. If you think that you have something you have an eye for, but you don’t want to purchase it right now, you will have to wait for the next month once more while also gambling your chances whether that thing is still part of my selections. Hihihi, it’s a limited item that you should buy immediately."

"Then... every time you visit, your goods are refreshed and I won’t see anything that is previously present in your past selections?"

"Oh, not really. Some items may come back a second time upon my next visit but all of my goods are random. Therefore, there is no guarantee whether that item will be available or not."

Elaina nodded after hearing the explanation. Knowing how this merchant worked, Elaina mentally noted to herself that this guy was someone she should check once the carriage rolled in. There is a chance that something she might need might be sold there in the future.

After saying goodbye to the merchant, just like what the entity inside said, it didn’t leave immediately and stayed there like it was there, waiting for new customers.

"[This is a good opportunity to you, Elaina. Since your farm is growing, it might be a good idea to check this guy’s goods every end of the month to see if he is selling useful or interesting things. It might as well help you on your farm in the future.]"

Elaina nodded. This will be something she will be using in the future as well. And her mind also flashes an idea. Since this guy is part of the ones who will sell things, perhaps she will be able to sell some other things that she cannot sell to other people in the future. Or perhaps, something worth purchasing might appear in the future. Only time will tell.
