A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 469: Gobruk

Chapter 469: Gobruk

Throughout his life, Gobruk has never gone down the mountains and explored the lower parts of the forest, nor has he gotten close to human civilization. Thanks to his overprotective mother, who keeps on telling him how humans are dangerous and how they should be safer in the mountains and live peacefully.

Back then, his father, who is now a crazed mad greater orc that wanted to conquer everything there is to know, was a regular Greater Ogre who became the war chief of their tribe after his Grandfather, who was the former war chief, died of old age, allowing his father to inherit the mantle and role of his grandfather.

However, after his mother also died due to a sickness that plagued their village for a while before disappearing completely, his father changed and became what he is right now.

And as a result, the things that his mother always tells him not to do, he started doing so in the hopes that his father would be stopped, even if his father dies in the process. To him, there is no more saving of the orc that he once looked up to before. He became so power hungry that even though he lived with him all his life and yet he no longer recognized him.

Who would have thought that he would be now stepping into what his mother would call "forbidden lands" just to stop his father?

However, contrary to Gobruk’s imagination of dangerous forbidden lands that is described by his mother when he was still a youngling ogre was farther from the truth when he arrived at the so-called farm by the three young humans that escorted him.

There, the place is quite different than his tribe. Unlike in their tribe, where every house is made from materials scraped from monsters and animals and made into makeshift tents that became their homes in the process, humans have more fascinating houses that they managed to build houses made of wood and make them look nice on the eye and look comfortable to move in. Perhaps if his tribe starts to use the trees around them and uses them as building materials for their houses, then perhaps they would have a warmer home, especially at night when the temperature drops a lot colder than usual.

Aside from that, he wasn’t expecting to see a very massive tree and a very tall tower made of black stone material in his entire life. Trees are massive around his tribe, but not to the point where one could practically live in them. The tree before him was that kind of tree, and seeing it as a place where bees live is a fascinating thing.

But what he is more fascinated with are the little human-like things flying around the air. They are small and have the same look as the humans before him, just that their difference is that they have sharper ears than humans, and they have wings. Not to mention, they are very small to the point that he fears he might squash them if he just moves around.

"Oh, an interesting big green giant man! Who is this, Adelaide?" one of the small flying little humans asked.

"He says his name is Gobruk. Hei is a Greater Ogre and wishes to talk about something. We came here to involve Mother since it seems very serious."

"Ooohhh, I see now. An ogre, eh? First time seeing one in person."

Gobruk wonders what kind of creature these little humans are. He has never heard of this creature before, and he can also tell they aren’t humans in the first place.

The human girl who was speaking with the fairy heads over to their house. Based on what the little flying human said, it seems her name was Adelaide. He waits with the two male humans she was with, who are both still staying on guard with him, though he doesn’t have any intention to do anything in the first place.

While waiting, a woman wearing a pointy hat and a bit of long black cape went out of the other house and was surprised to see him.

"A Greater Ogre? Did you capture him?" she asked the two human boys.

"Not really, but we made him cuffed as a safety measure in here. We are still not sure about him, and we are just making sure he isn’t doing something that would cause trouble later."

"Still, didn’t expect to see a Greater Ogre this near in our land, last time I have seen them was back when I wasn’t a witch yet."

Gobruk frowned. A witch? Back then, his mother also told him about the tales of humans who had abandoned their humanity and embraced magic and became what was known as witches. And this human woman who was talking with them was actually a witch. There are more surprises after surprises in store with him, and he has no idea what is going on anymore.

"So what is his deal here?" the woman with the pointy hat asked.

"He said he wanted to discuss something that involves something about an invasion or something. I don’t really understand it much, though, so I think passing this to Mother would be the best thing," the boy with gold hair said.

"I see. Did Ade already fetch Elaina? She should be taking a break inside."

"Yeah, we are just waiting for her to come out."

And speak of the devil, the young girl named Adelaide or Ade came out from the house with a woman who looks like the matured version of the two golden-haired children. The only difference is that she exudes a dangerous vibe. She seems delicate to look but he can’t help but feel a shiver when that woman looks at him.

"Is this the ogre in question, Ade?"

"Yep. He said something that I think sounds alarming. Perhaps you can listen to him?"

"I see. Then release his handcuffs. Don’t worry, if he does something, I know what to do."

The girl named Adelaide snapped her fingers, and the cuffs on his hands came off.

"Hello, Mr. Ogre, or should I call you by your name, Gobruk, right?" the woman before him began exerting her authority. This woman is dangerous. She might not have released any killing intent, but if he tries to fight or attack, he is quite sure that his head would separate from his body before he can do anything.

...

Elaina had seen Greater Ogres back then in Luminiera Kingdom. They might be muscular and look similar to their far relatives, which are the regular ogres, but for Elaina, these Greater Ogres are not dangerous and live peacefully far from the kingdom. It is saddening that they have left the Luminiera Kingdom’s borders after the arrival of the church, but perhaps that was for the best.

Considering that Elaina had a positive view on Greater Ogres since they are a kind species, Elaina doesn’t hold animosity with the young Greater Ogre before her, which is why she ordered his cuffs to be removed. After all, he is not showing signs that he is going to fight.

"Hello, Mr. Ogre, or should I call you by your name, Gobruk, right?" Elaina made an opening conversation with the Greater Ogre before her.

"Y-yes...name’s Gobruk. Are you chief here?"

Elaina chuckled. "Chief? Haha, I don’t have a role here, unlike your tribe. But you can say I am the owner of this place. I keep this place as my home, and in your terms, this should be my territory."

"Then Gobruk asks help. Me and my tribe, they needed help. Humans will be in danger, no help comes."

"Help?" Elaina frowned. Although he speaks in broken human language and a bit hard to understand, it seems he meant they needed help, or else the humans will be in danger. Unless it was not the way she understood his words.

But it seems that was the main case indeed, as Gobruk nodded profusely.

"What is going on? I thought Greater Ogre tribes are independent and prefer to remain neutral with the humans?"

"It was the case before. Father changed. Became violent. Dangerous. Don’t know him anymore. Plans to attack when he won against other monsters, animals. Said he is King of the Forest now. Now wants to conquer humans. Gobruk’s tribe didn’t want to fight. Father wages war anyway. Rallies allies who agree with him. They plan to invade soon. Gobruk didn’t want bloodshed. Seeks humans to ask help. Now here talking with you," Gobruk explained.

Elaina now understood things. But now another term came up again. King of the Forest. It seems to be the same thing as the monster that came not too long ago and asked for food. It mentioned this thing in the passing but didn’t expect that something that big happened in their neighborhood forest.

Now that she knows what is going on, Elaina sees trouble looming. If not for this young greater ogre, things would not be looking good indeed. He needs to talk with someone who can help and that would need Princess Margaux’s help.
