Chapter 339: Backyard Sea Pool

"Merfolk people like us are often associated by mermaids, mermen, and sirens, but we have no close relation to them aside from the little similarities like us merfolk living underwater. But that is where the similarities have ended. Asking for a way to help her would be useless as Merfolk and mermaids are different from one another."

"Alessa is right, you know? Even if you put her side by side with Mier, one will see the difference between the two," the Harvest Goddess said as she looked at the unconscious mermaid.

"Which means the way Merfolk lived is not applicable to her?"

Alessa shook her head. "Not necessarily. She is still someone who lives underwater. Some of the merfolk’s way of living can maybe apply to her but take it as a grain of salt from me. Like what I said, there is a big chance that her way of living is just too different from me."

"This is also some kind of knowledge that I heard before but according to some people, mermaids cannot live in regular freshwater like in this stream or the river like how Alessa is living with me. Compared to merfolk who are flexible in their water, they said mermaids do not do well on fresh waters and they cannot breath properly with it. They will need regular sea water to properly live.

Elaina scratches her head in frustration. Just what should she do to even help this little mermaid survive without returning her to the sea? As much as she wanted to put her back into the sea, her conscience is also nagging her to not do what she was thinking in the first place.

Just as she was struggling on what she should do next, Elaina suddenly got a good idea. If she can’t live on the stream with the Harvest Goddess and the merfolk mother and child, why not make a specialized area for her?

"Julia, you know how to control magic that modifies the land right?" Elaina asked.

"I do. Are you trying to make a little pond for her, enough for her to swim around?"

Elaina nodded. "Yes. But make it possible for expansion. Keeping her in a cramp pond in the future will be bad for her and she might think she is being oppressed."

"Alright. You have an idea where I should do the thing? I can begin anytime."

"Good, now, we should worry about the water..." Elaina started thinking of a way to bring water to the pool when the Witch immediately have an idea.

"Let me handle the water. I have a way of bringing water from the sea straight back here without needing to head out and go to the beach to fetch some water with a pail," the witch said confidently.

"Really? Wouldn’t the people from the port find it strange that water started floating into the sky then move towards the farm?" Julia asked.

The Witch chuckled, "Oh, don’t worry. I am not going to do it like what you are imagining. I have a way that no one would suspect a thing that we are taking water from the sea. With the water problem solved, how about we should begin doing it as soon as possible? Maintaining the water ball is a bit exhausting a bit."

Elaina nodded and choose another vacant area of the farm. One that is located behind the farmhouse. The area behind the farmhouse is big and Elaina planned to make the area as a place for putting big warehouses where she can store the produce for a while in case she needed it. However, that place is now going to be change as the new home of the mermaid. It is a good area to place. Not only the farmhouse hide it from plain view, but regular people who might enter the farm will not easily find the place unless they specifically wanted to go behind the farmhouse.

The reason why Elaina wanted to hide the mermaid is that there are many people who are believers on the tale that eating a mermaid or a merman’s flesh will allow them to gain the power of immortality. Some people are even going to go on dangerous expeditions just to capture one. In short, a mermaid or a merman are one that humans find fascinating and something they wanted to own. Kind of like exotic pet...although it was said that none have yet to succeed...of course, Elaina doesn’t believe no one has succeeded. If these rumors are floating around, it is clear it happened.

Julia looked at the area behind the farmhouse and nodded. "This place is big and is a good area to create a pool for her. I shall begin terraforming the place. Please get out of the way for a bit to ensure that I won’t make any mistake in doing so."

Everyone went farther from Julia who began chanting her magic spell.

"O Land that blesses the world of all kinds of bounty, Terraform and give shape to the form that I desire. Make form and become a solid foundation that will not decay or break!"

It wasn’t a long chant and it didn’t seem like similar to the usual spells she hear that has rhymes every word. For someone who does not understand magic, it may seem like an ordinary chant but for the others, what Julia did is something considered to be a high level Earth Magic, Terraform. Not only she did it by chanting the short verse, but she did it in half-hearted way that some elders of magic might start to question what they were learning in the past few years if they see someone just do it like nothing without even using the proper way to do it.

Julia put her palm on the ground she was standing and like a soft clay, the ground started to form a bowl shape. It wasn’t big enough for adults, but for children, it is big enough that even if the mermaid and the twins stay there, they will still fit in properly.

Julia stopped for a bit and glanced at her work. Seemingly not satisfied, she raise her hands and a few big stones fly from somewhere and went straight to the bowl shape hole she made and put those stones to the bottom and the surrounding bowl shape, removing any signs that there are any soil underneath. It was like a road was being built there. Next thing she did is move a few of her fingers and those stones combined, removing any cracks made from the gaps of those stones. In just a few seconds, the little pool that Elaina wanted Julia to make has been fully furnished and ready.

"Sis, the project is complete. How about you put the mermaid to the newly made backyard pool?"

The witch nodded and levitate the water ball of sea water and the mermaid and gently put them together into the pool.

SNAP!

When the witch snapped her fingers, the water ball lost its ball shape and returned to its regular water form and filled the pool with water. The mermaid lie on the pool of water, submerged underneath, safe and breathing.

"Looks like the transfer is complete and the water ball is enough to fill the whole pool and submerge her underneath the water."

"She is now breathing stable unlike before. It seems the potions I used before worked well to heal her wounds," Julia said.

Elaina is a bit curious on these wounds Julia and the witch have been saying. "Can you tell me more about these wounds this little baby mermaid had? She is still a small kid and seeing big wounds, wouldn’t that make it dangerous for her?"

"Yeah. It was quite big and I can agree that her body wouldn’t have lasted long. Her wounds were too big that she was losing quite a lot of blood. If she didn’t get treated immediately, she will lose more blood, go to a critical condition, then die from bleeding out. She was already pale when we found her, so even a few seconds later would be pretty much the final nail of her coffin."

"Her wounds were quite severe as well. It was like it wasn’t made by any predator. It was like she got snagged on something sharp and she managed to run away by tearing a bit of her flesh just to get away from whatever is causing her to feel that. The wound is pretty nasty and she got two of that on her body when we found her. It should be about this big," the witch then began to show the size of the wound. As long as two forefingers aligned to one another, that was how long those wounds she have and both of them have their flesh seems to be ripped.

Elaina couldn’t help but wince in pain just imagining it. Just how painful did this mermaid feel after obtaining that wound? Did something happen that made her escape which resulted in those wounds? What about her parents? Many questions seems to pop on her mind but she decided to stop thinking about it.

"Let’s leave her for a while and let her relax. With her new environment, let’s allow her to slowly adapt for a bit."
