Chapter 338: Sailing Trip [VII]
"Eh? Just like that?"
Her surprise is normal as she wouldn’t expect to see cooking top the others in terms of progress. With farming being her very first priority in work, it was quite strange that the first one to level up to level 2 would be cooking mastery.
However, she couldn’t check the benefits of level 2 cooking mastery at the moment. She can’t afford to just let her focus shift while she is cooking. Dismissing the almanac, she continued to cook the fish and finish them before they go bad.

The lunch party concluded with a very satisfying conclusion for everyone. The First Prince couldn’t help but praise the cooking of Elaina and how the fish was something that an ordinary fish could never reach.
"I don’t know what to say about this, but these piranhas are something that I wouldn’t expect to make such an impact. If I was blindfolded and I get to be spoonfed by this without knowing what it was, I would immediately assume this is regular meat that didn’t come from a fish and that is from me who is always being served with high-quality meat all the time in the palace," the First Prince said as he caresses his full stomach.
"He is right. I agree with his sentiments about the piranha flesh to be like regular meat. However, I think the main reason the fish has gained quite a flavor was thanks to Elaina’s cooking as well. She might have just done the grilling process but that masterful grilling and the way she managed to perfectly grill the fish without singeing the surface of the fish which usually happens in grilling. We can’t also forget how masterful Miss Julia’s control of the flames works as well. Her work helped the whole thing to emerge quite well," Caroline added, making both Julia and Elaina a bit embarrassed by the praises.
"You are overpraising us, Your Highness. It’s not like we did something that an ordinary person can do..." Elaina tried to downplay their achievement. Of course, the First Prince denied that.
"No, this will not come out that well if either me or my Darling here cooked the fish. Sure it would end up still getting cooked, but it will not be the same as how you two made the fish cooked too well. Perhaps we would just get a not-so-satisfying grilled piranha as a result instead," the First Prince explained.
"Still, this made us aware of your skills. Now we understand that Princess Margaux was not just exaggerating that your skills as a cook are quite top notch."
Princess Margaux overheard that praise and smugly put her hands on her waist. "See? I told you that I am right! If you taste her other cooking as well, you might even try to bow your head to her skills!"
Elaina felt so embarrassed by the words being spouted by Princess Margaux. She is not sure if this was the truth or she is just trying to brag about it to her brother that she gets to eat a lot of tasty meals every day compared to him.
"Is that so, well next time, I will visit if Miss Elaina does a party or gathering with food being prepared! I look forward to it!"
As much as Elaina wanted to make some denial about her cooking, she decided to keep quiet. Its better not to say anything and make matters worse for her.
"What about the other pail of the piranhas? As much as the piranhas we grilled are good to eat, having to consume them was a challenge. And then there is the other pail of fish with us. What shall we do about it?" the First Prince asked.
"How about we divide it? Since we all enjoyed the fish, we might as well carry a few back home ourselves. Its not right to just claim them all by me," Elaina suggested.
"I think that is for the best. I also wanted to have someone to try and prepare the fish and experiment on dishes that can be made using this fish. We can’t rely on Miss Elaina’s capable skills after all."
With this agreement, the two families divided the fish as expected. Elaina cleaned up the fishes before dividing the fish equally to both parties. And so, the sailing party ended.
One might ask...what happened to the mermaid? And why does neither Caroline nor the First Prince react to it? The answer lies in Julia. The moment she saw the mermaid, she immediately hid its presence from those who have yet to see the mermaid. Yes, that includes Elaina who didn’t see the mermaid before. As for the people who have seen the mermaid like the children and the Witch, they are the only exceptions to the group as they have direct contact to the mermaid and it would be hard to remove their memories of them about the mermaid.
However, Julia has a plan to alter some of Zane’s memories. She can’t risk even having someone outside of the farm’s inhabitants to remember the mermaid’s presence. She will not remove his memories related to the mermaid just yet, but she already made adjustments to ensure that once he gets far into the proximity of the mermaid, all her memories related to the mermaid will be altered considerably. Ensuring his memories remained intact, yet he will be unable to remember the entire situation.
Adelaide is not aware of this, though the Witch is already aware of it as she already felt the power cast on the mermaid. She just decided to keep quiet for the time being until she understood why Julia decided to do that.
The yacht peacefully returned. Elaina and the others said their farewells to the First Prince and his family. The First Prince and Caroline enjoyed the day as well and are willing to join on another trip like this in the future if Elaina wanted to. Elaina didn’t say no of course but she wanted to just avoid the same problem earlier where they are attacked by the Piranhas so she proposed that perhaps they can do this trip again this summer where swimming in the ocean is considered as safe from any problems which the latter party also agreed.
Like what Adelaide said she will do to bring the mermaid with them, she pleaded to Julia privately without anyone knowing. As a result, Julia agreed and Adelaide is happy that they will be bringing the mermaid with them. Elaina, Princess Margaux and Curaj still have no idea about it but they will soon learn on it once they have returned home.
...
...
...
"Are you guys serious?" Elaina only got to face palm after she realized the situation.
Before her is the unconscious mermaid, still encased in the water ball that the witch conjured to protect her and to also ensure she doesn’t dry up while still on land. Julia explained the situation to her and to the others as soon as they arrived from the farm.
"Sorry about that, Sis. As much as we want to reveal it to you, it is much risky to tell this matter outside to the people who stays here in the farmhouse. Curaj is fine since he is also a demi-human while I also approved on Princess Margaux knowing this since she is staying here in the farmhouse with us, but the First Prince, Mrs. Caroline, and Zane are people who are outside our jurisdiction. I don’t dare to insult Princess Margaux’s brother but unless he understood the struggle of demi-humans like Curaj and this mermaid, I don’t want to risk the spread of the news related to the mermaid. After all, they said mermaids are just urban legends or something," Julia explained.
Adelaide also clung to Elaina’s shirt and started begging in child-like manner. "Don’t get angry, Mom! I asked Sister Julia to help!"
Elaina scratches her head as she glance at her daughter and mermaid before them. The mermaid is still too young, around the age of the twins. She is too small that the small sphere of sea water is enough to encase her body. In short, she is still quite vulnerable and would need the watchful eye of an adult. She might not know much about the mermaid culture but there is no way that the way mermaids are raised is like how a turtle lays eggs on the sandy beach, leaving the younglings to fend themselves from predators once they crawl out of their egg shells just to stay alive.
As a result, Elaina has to call to the two residents of the farm who are more adept in the water than they are.
"Really, another demi-human to adopt?" the Harvest Goddess looked at Elaina with a questioning look on her face.
"What do you mean another demi-human to adopt? I didn’t even have anyone who would fit to that description, goddess. The fairies are not adopted as they are living in the farm, the Feys works here, and Curaj is also a worker. As for someone who have adopted a demi-human, isn’t that you?"
The Harvest Goddess coughed a bit after Elaina’s words hit her since what she said is true.
"Anyways, I wanted to at least get some input related to the mermaids. Since Alessa is a merfolk, perhaps she has an idea of how they live considering both lived in the sea?" Elaina asked.
"I am sorry about this, Miss Elaina. Although we are living in the same body of water, the mermaids and the merfolk are just different races and they work differently. As much as I want to help, I don’t think my words can actually help her in any way."
