Chapter 303: I Will Sue You!
Eyes. Eyes everywhere.
The Head Merchant is feeling a bit uncomfortable from all the stares he has received since earlier. At the moment, they are currently in an open waiting room as they wait for their request to be processed. Since they did head to the headquarters of the Market and asked for the President’s appointment, they had to wait for a bit to create time for them to meet. Since he has no prior appointment, he will have to wait for a while. However, he has been receiving stares from the people who are passing by before them.
"Why are they staring at me? Do I have something on my face?" the head merchant asked his secretary.
"Uh...no boss. Your face is clean..."
"Then why are they glancing and looking at me like a pitiful lost child?!"
"Boss! Don’t lash out! Just endure the stares for now! We don’t want to get kicked out of this establishment and miss the chance to meet with the people running the market!" his secretary pleaded to his boss.
"Tch..." the head merchant clicks his tongue with a disgruntled look on his face.
Seeing that his boss didn’t lash out and start screaming at the top of his lungs, he sighed in relief. Still, he does understand his boss’s feelings at the moment. Why are these people looking at them with weird glances and stares? It was like they were being scrutinized from head to toe while still unsure what was causing them to be scrutinized like this.
"Ugh...these stares are just making me uncomfortable so much. What is going on? Why are they taking so long to allow our query? I don’t even see any people lining up in this place to do the same thing! So why is it taking this long!?"
"Boss! Just be patient, alright? Surely, they will arrive sooner or later and they will soon allow us in."
...
...
...
While the two are waiting in the lobby and are under the stares of the workers, Princess Tabatha is currently observing their reactions at a surveillance crystal.
"That secretary has very good patience and is dedicated to the work. With a boss that has the temperament of that guy, many will not last long. I am surprised this guy was able to last that long," Princess Tabatha sipped her tea as she observed the secretary of the Head Merchant.
"We did a background check on him. He is Wallace Shovalia and he was an orphan who grew up under the care of a poor family who was a former noble in Luminiera Kingdom. Their previous assets were confiscated despite the lack of incriminating evidence and as a result, they ended up becoming poor. We dug up information and from the looks of it, the same company that he was working for is the main reason their family was in the ruins and the one who took away their assets. We tried to see if there is any truth to the charges their family had but we don’t see any sort of charges and can only say that those guys clearly scammed them to ruin. As a way to earn money, he started working as a secretary to the head merchant which is the same person who is currently looking at the Surveillance crystal," the Shadow Ops soldier said while standing in the dark.
"I see now. Former nobles huh? And a victim of false charges which caused their family to fall from grace. Tragic but perhaps he has some ulterior motives as to why he is working for the people who have caused his family ruins," Princess Tabatha grinned.
"There is indeed a possibility but we don’t have any conclusive evidence that he is indeed doing so. He has been working for them for around 5 years already."
Princess Tabatha finishes her coffee and puts the mug on the table before leaning on her swivel chair.
"Call them in."
...
...
...
Wallace is already sweating a lot while glancing at his boss who is slowly getting irritated. His demeanor is slowly changing from calm to nervousness. If his boss continues on this phase, he will become a trouble for him and it will not be easy to stop him. He silently prays that they will be allowed soon before his boss explodes.
Then, a woman appeared before them who also looked like a secretary and looked at them before she looked at the documents in her hand.
"Are you the people who are asking for a meeting with the president of the Market?"
Annoyed, the Head Merchant sarcastically answered her with a grin. "Well, who knows? Maybe we are not, maybe we are."
Wallace panicked when he heard the response of the head merchant and the indifferent reaction of the secretary before them. To immediately salvage the situation, he immediately substituted himself and stood up.
"Yes! Here is our calling card and documents if you want some proof!"
The secretary glanced at what he showed and nodded.
"Alright. Now that you are confirmed, please follow me, I will escort you two to the President. She is waiting for you."
Hearing the response of the secretary, Wallace sighed in relief and wiped off his sweat when he suddenly felt a dull pain on the back of his head. He was just smacked by his boss.
"Idiot! We should be annoying them for a bit to pay back for leaving us in the waiting room for so long! F*cking idiot, ruining my plans..." the Head Merchant angrily followed the secretary behind.
Rubbing the dull pain in his head, he sighed before he followed his boss before he started causing more trouble.
They step over at the teleporting circle that employees use every day to reach the various floors. There are stairs present, but if they want a fast and quick way to reach the floors they need to head into without the need of climbing a long way, the teleport circle is the only way to go.
Wallace was surprised by how the teleport circle was incorporated easily into the building. If only the headquarters in the Luminiera Kingdom were the same, then he wouldn’t need to keep on running up and down the stairs just to fulfill some requests from his boss. He looks at his boss and he can tell that his boss is also amazed by the situation but is just keeping his face emotionless to hide his amazement over this. It seems he didn’t want to reveal to the secretary that the office in the Luminiera Kingdom lacks this kind of QOL. Which is probably for the best. He didn’t want his bullsh*try to start again. With this, he will be too stunned to say anything.
The secretary looked at the two behind her and ensured that the two is standing in the teleport circle properly before she activated it. The Teleport circle started to spin and a crackle of energy appeared.
"Teleport: 5th floor."
ZING!
In a flash, their surroundings changed and they quickly arrived at their destination. It was just a blink in their eyes and they already arrived. Unlike climbing up and down the stairs, this is more convenient and faster.
"Follow me," the secretary said as she headed ahead of them.
The two followed the secretary who soon arrived in a glass-covered room that is currently blurry from the outside due to the glass windows blurring their view. It seems it was a one-way blur as the people inside the room can see what is happening outside while the people outside can’t see anything happening inside unless they open the door.
"Please take a seat," the voice of Princess Tabatha said behind the swivel chair that had its back facing the two men.
"Are you the president who runs the Market?" the Head Merchant asked.
Princess Tabatha turned around and looked at the Head Merchant with a grin. "I am. I heard you people are asking for my audience. I don’t have enough time to waste so please speak and say what is your purpose for asking to meet with me."
The Head Merchant was shocked to see that the one who was running was much younger than he expected. The girl before him is still a late teenager who seems to be still in her final years of studying in the academy.
"You? The President of the Market? Hahaha, no wonder the policies of this place are rotten and are customer-unfriendly! It was a youngling currently running the place!" the Head Merchant started mocking Princess Tabatha.
The secretary who is listening opens her eyes and is ready to attack as she is about to pull something out from her skirt, if not for Princess Tabatha stopping her from doing so by raising her hand.
"I see. So you think I was running the Market badly because I was young, yes? Then, can you at least tell me what caused you to anguish so much?" Princess Tabatha did not lose composure, still acting cool.
"You don’t know? Then you should know! I will sue you for doing bad practices and making false promises to your customers! As customers of the market, we need to be free from discrimination!"
Princess Tabatha smiled. A smile that is full of meaning. One who knows what she is doing.
