Chapter 286: Hands Full of Curses

Curses. One of the oldest things that have existed is humanity’s conception and understanding of the mystics and magic that the world uses. Many fear them but a few of them decided to utilize them for their own benefit.

Nowadays, curses are specialized by select individuals and they have been studying them for their whole life, meaning, they have already been using these curses for themselves to the point that if one needs curses to be analyzed, these people will be called.

However, none is currently available for Elaina to help her with the cursed tool identification before and if it is safe to even handle that item with her bare hands. But curiosity killed the cat and now, Elaina is now in contact with the cursed tool.

The elder can only shake his head. "This is a bit foolish indeed, but perhaps that is just normal human nature, no matter which era may it go. Congratulations, the Cursed Tool is now ready for you to use."

Elaina slowly lifts the cursed tool from the ground. She thought she would feel something from doing so, whether something like pain or heaviness in the feel. Anything that would cause her body to feel like it was cursed...but...there’s nothing. The Cursed Tool didn’t do anything.

"Eh? I thought it would start to drain my life or something like that?" Elaina was not expecting the outcome at all. This is something new."

"It may be a cursed tool, but it wasn’t something that will suck out the life of the wielder. If it was, I wouldn’t even throw that thing there and let you touch it, I wouldn’t risk anyone touching it and would rather reduce that thing to scrap metal and dispose of it to the deepest part of the bowels of the earth. That might be a cursed tool but it doesn’t kill whoever touches it."

Elaina inspected the tool. Despite its form being like a hoe, it is also clear that it isn’t like the regular hoe she has been using on her farm. This one has the distinct shape of a weapon and a tool. It is black in both the metal part while the wood that handles it is very metal-like to the point that she can mistake it as regular metal attached to a metal that would form the hoe.

"It’s light..." Elaina said to herself as she weighed it in her hand. Compared to regular hoes, what she was holding felt like she was just holding a regular stick without a metal head attached to it. She tried to move it around and it was practically weightless in her hands.

The Elder nodded and sat down on his seat after he saw the result of Elaina’s actions.

"So, how does it feel? How does it feel to hold a cursed tool?" the Elder asked.

"Ummm...is this really a cursed tool? I thought that it would cause something big which is why this tool is being avoided. You made it sound like this is the most dangerous thing that has ever appeared before your eyes. This tool seemed to be doing fine?" Elaina replied while still happy with the tool’s performance in her hands.

"Is that so? How about trying to let the tool go? Then tell me how it feels."

Elaina nodded and tried to drop the cursed hoe off of her hands...only for her to realize something.

"Huh?"

Elaina shook her two hands. She is already waving it around up and down with her palms wide open... However, nothing dropped.

Yes, what she was about to drop off into the ground didn’t drop like she thought it would drop. Instead, the Cursed Tool remained in her palms like it had been glued there.

"D-don’t tell me...the reason this was called a cursed tool is not because it can cause harm to the wielder but because the wielder is incapable of unequipping the tool itself no matter what he or she does?"

Upon Elaina’s realization, the Elder started laughing hysterically as Elaina now realized how bad the effects of the Cursed Tool were.

"As I told you before, this tool is cursed. A tool that can indeed benefit the user...but because it was cursed, it has an additional perk of giving something that would make you regret using it. And the only way for you to remove that tool from your hands...is to have it blessed."

Elaina slowly pieced together why she had to touch this tool to bless it before. It was her fault before that got her curious about how to make it a blessed tool. But she never thought that this was how it was done in the first place.

"Can...can you tell me how to make this a blessed tool?"

The Elder nodded. "Yes. As much as it is funny looking at your reaction to having that tool in your hands, it is unfair for me to not say how to fully bless that tool off of your hands. However, because these cursed tools have different ways to become a blessed tool, we needed to identify this tool first whether this will need to be an actively used tool or a passive one. And if you think about passing over the tool, then forget it. Those who have held the tool will be the only one who will be eligible of removing the curse and no one can take the curse away unless the one who got it severed their hands or they have died in the process."

"It doesn’t get blessed by other people like the saintess or priests?" Elaina asked.

"No. Holy power is useless for these tools. Compared to those curses that needed the power of the holy, these curses only needed the action and power of the one being cursed on how long they can endure the curse power and it will be lifted as a result. Now, come and hold it out. Let me see it."

Holding out her hand, the cursed tool on her hand is now before the Elder. He put his hands above the tool and a magic circle appeared above the tool.

"[Identify]!"

The Magic circle appears and spins as it soon engulfs the Cursed tool and "reads" it as it scans over its whole form. It only took a few seconds but as soon as it was done, the Elder immediately identified what she needed to do to remove it.

"Although this will be hard, if you are a farmer, sooner or later, you will finish this without problem."

"How do I remove this?" Elaina is desperate. She didn’t want to keep on holding onto this tool forever without a sign of it being removed from her hands.

"To remove the cursed tool, you will need to use this tool 100 times. This may sound simple but compared to regular tools, if you use a cursed tool, the energy consumption of one swing done by a cursed tool will be equivalent to 50 regular swings and uses of a regular tool."
