Chapter 265: Sowing Seeds and Barn Construction

Although Elaina has no idea of the real truth about Adelaide, she assumes that Adelaide is what someone would call a "Gifted Child". Gifted children are considered to be children who gain something while they are still kids, which will result in them becoming geniuses or heroes once they grow to adulthood. And seeing Adelaide, she is a bit proud and also worried about her. Unlike her brother who will be living a normal life, she will become different from her peers and that might result in isolation and more and Elaina didn’t want that to happen to her.

This is why she plans that even if her suspicion of Adelaide being a Gifted Child is true, she wouldn’t feel like she is somewhat weird or just different from other kids. She will not be alienated and she will feel the love a family can give her. She will also ensure that the twins have a good relationship. After all, they are both halves of each other and she doesn’t want to have her parents do to her and her siblings of trying to alienate one another. This is also why she is not so close to her sister in the first place. But it is not like she likes her in any way, especially for stealing her husband.

But if possible, she wanted Adelaide and Arthur to get along like how Troy and her get along well.

With this new discovery, Elaina decided that she would personally offer a lot of her time to the growth of her twins. Not just for Adelaide but for Arthur as well. He might not be a gifted child like his sister, but in her eyes, both are equal. No superior or inferior.

The next day, Elaina tested the ground’s temperature using the Almanac. Thanks to the Almanac, she can tell if the soil is good enough or in a bad state that she will have to avoid planting on that patch of soil.

Once Elaina confirms that the tilled soil has adapted to the temperature of the spring season, it is time to prepare for planting. Since Elaina barely has enjoyed springtime before, Elaina will take advantage of this time to earn lots of money for the Spring Season.

This time, Elaina came prepared for various crops to be planted for the spring season. Last time, she barely had money to buy any seeds but now, she doesn’t even need to buy any seeds in the market. As a result of her time earning FP during winter time, it accumulated quite a lot without her checking. By the time she checked out on it, it had already reached 20 thousand FP.

"Perhaps because I was so focused on the threat of solving the Eternal Winter, I didn’t even check my FP and had no chance of checking the Almanac at all. But I am happy that I didn’t check at all. Seeing the big numbers somehow made me feel very happy for some reason.

And so she used up those points for seeds. Not all of them but she spent plenty of them.

The store that sells seeds only sells regular seeds for various plants like parsnips and strawberries but other than that, there are fewer seeds compared to the seeds available from the catalog. They might grow faster than regular seeds, but Elaina does not discriminate against fast-growing plants anymore.

She still has a few seeds from last spring that she didn’t get to plant last time so she will add them to the pool of seeds she will use later. As for what she purchased, she got a few seeds for potatoes, asparagus, cabbage, carrots, and some chilis. She also has some for growing leeks, lettuce, and kale.

Elaina smiled at the variety of her plants this time around. Most of them are vegetables but they are good for a variety of recipes that she plans to make once the vegetables are ready for harvest.

Now that she doesn’t need to till the ground after doing it yesterday, she only needs to sow the seeds carefully on the tilled soil. She also made sure to separate each plant on various sides to have a balanced look once they started growing. It would be chaotic if she planted the seeds in various areas. The Feys are also helping with the seed sowing process, cutting the time to do the job.

With the seeds already sown, she made sure to sprinkle the fertilizer on the tilled soil in small volumes. She can’t willy-nilly spread over the fertilizer like nothing. She will be planting a lot this spring and it might not last by the time she is done.

After the seeds were sown, she started to water the sown seeds one by one. Since she has expanded her reach, the sprinklers she had only cover the old patches of land that she had used before. She will ask for a few more from Julia later but for now, manual watering is fine.

And since the extra work was done, Elaina finished her farm work much quicker than she expected and is now free for the rest of the day. Curaj already worked on the animals so it is no longer needed for her to go and do it herself.

With free time, Elaina decided to head over to the Woodworks and check if Jacob was back from his previous job. After all, Jacob is a busy man and whenever he needs something to be built, he is out somewhere to do the job. She just hoped that today, Jacob would be finally present.

Luckily for Elaina, Jacob is indeed inside and has just finished his work the other day. Elaina didn’t visit the woodworks so she almost missed him if she didn’t visit today.

"You are in luck. I have just finished the job and I would have started accepting a new project from the other town if you didn’t visit early."

Elaina sighed in relief hearing that. "Thankfully, I caught up to you. Otherwise, it would take me some time to even have this be built."

Jacob nodded grabbed his little notepad in his pocket and began noting the plans for the construction as she started to question Elaina about what she needed to be built.

"I heard you got some cows now, I assume you wanted a barn to be built then?"

"A barn and silo."

"A barn and silo eh. Alright, do want me to make the regular barn or do you want to have a customized barn type?"

"Customized Barn?" Elaina frowned.

"Seeing the chickens you have on the farm, I can tell that you will not have regular cows and other barn animals inside those barns."

"Well, yes. You might be right. But regular barns should be fine, right?" Elaina tilted her head.

"If we are talking about regular cows, then yes. But unfortunately, I don’t think a regular barn would be appropriate for the cows you have on your farm. They are not regular ones, aren’t they?"

Elaina nodded. "Yeah, they are wild cows."

"Not much different than regular cows, but they are much more aggressive and bigger than regular cows. A regular barn wouldn’t suffice."

Jacob then begins to start writing on the notepad.

"Do you want a big barn or just a regular size one? Big barns are capable of being expanded inside while regular barns would need to be upgraded to Big Barns if you wanted to house bigger cattle."

"How much is a big barn?"

"Depending on the materials you wanted me to use."

"Can you use both stone and wood? I can provide the stones but the wood would be needed to be purchased."

Jacob was surprised about the stones but he didn’t ponder any further. "30,000 gold for the big barn construction and around 25,000 gold for the materials, excluding the stones."

Elaina nodded and then asked a question. "Deal. Can I also expand the Big Barn in the future?"

"Yes. It has a design with expansion in mind. If you want to expand the place, just talk to me and I will immediately work on the construction."

"Great," Elaina smiled after hearing everything. She is worried she will need to ask for another barn to be built but thankfully, it seems that Jacob is two steps ahead of her.

Then, she suddenly remembered something.

"Ah, right. I almost forgot about this but I just remembered. Do you make specialized coop types that house creatures aside from a chicken?"

"A coop?"

"More like a miniature room or something?"

"What kind of animal are you going to put? Birds? Turkey? Or much bigger?"

"No, I am talking about slimes. I wanted to have something that would allow me to take advantage of slimes and get some produce from them."

"Wait, you mean the slime hutch?"

"Slime hutch?" Elaina frowned. This is the first time she heard of this term.

"It is a way to house a slime and allow them to be used as "cattle". You can say that they are some of the projects of some people not too far from me who have access to people who can tame slimes. If you are asking for that, then I can build a slime hutch... it’s just that it would be a bit expensive."

"How expensive are we talking about?"

"Because of the demand, and how necessary it was going to be, I charge the project involving slime hutches much higher. Around 400,000 gold to 500,000 depending on the size and materials needed."
