Chapter 263: Rebuilding the Land of the Fairies
"Hey, hey, hey! I never agreed to become a fairy godmother or anything! And besides, isn’t it you who have developed this seed from a regular seed into a seed that can give birth to new fairies right, Pixie? Shouldn’t you be the one to be called their fairy godmother? It makes more sense since I am a human and you are a fairy! And as a godmother?! I am just a farmer and only helped by planting the lotus and ensuring it grows properly!"
"I...I apologize, Miss Elaina. I forgot to tell you that whoever plants the seed that the fairies will start to be born from will be considered by the subsequent fairies who are born on that seed to be their fairy godmother. And since you have planted that seed, grown it into a full-grown lotus, and made it bloom, then there is no one else here who can claim that title aside from you."
"Just accept it, Elaina. And besides, it’s not that bad. Why get worried about that matter? You are just going to become their Fairy Godmother and for fairies, that is the highest respect they can give to someone. It’s like a child treating someone they treat as a mother to be their guardian, provider, protector, and everything that can help them grow. Isn’t that something quite great?" the Harvest Goddess nodded in amusement like she was enjoying the situation.
"Hey. I am just a human alright? I might be helping Pixie revitalize her race back from the dead, but that doesn’t mean I was going to become something of a big figure for them. I am just a farmer and for beings like the fairies, they are better off to avoid human contact like me."
Pixie laughed. "That’s too late, Miss Elaina. The moment you accepted the task to help me revitalize my extinct race back from the brink of death, you already involved yourself. And besides, planting the lotus here on your farm is already making "avoiding humans" a very hard thing to do."
Elaina immediately understood what she meant. Since the lotus already made the pond their home after converting its surroundings and changing the view, there is no other way for Elaina to remove them and relocate them anywhere. Not only that...she can’t hide them either.
"But we believe that staying here would be a more beneficial fate for the fairy race. As a form of thanks, we will help with the farm’s development in the future. Think of it as a repayment for this big gesture you gave to us and a big reward for becoming our Fairy Godmother," Pixie explained.
Despite Elaina’s attempts to stop them from saying that she is their Fairy Godmother, they keep insisting, and Elaina is tired of explaining and sighs in resignation.
"Fine. You all can do it."
The fairies stood up and their smiles beamed up on their face.
"We will not let you down, Fairy Godmother. As a repayment, we will be helping with the farm’s development. Based on the knowledge passed down to us, we can handle and help take care of plants and animals around the farm. We will help determine whether they are sick or not. As long as the farm continues to be one with nature, we will have the power to continue and make it habitable for us fairies," the leader of the fairies said.
Elaina scratches her head. She can tell they are also capable of other things since she heard many things about fairies. But since they are newborns, perhaps they couldn’t do them just yet. And Elaina doesn’t care. She didn’t take this action to reap the benefits that fairies bring. She just did this because she felt some pity for Pixie. Now, Elaina felt exhausted just by this interaction alone.
She looked at the fairies before nodding. "Pixie, you talk to them and do whatever you need to do. As I said before, I am just there to plant the lotus seed and let it grow, bloom, and make it functional. Now, it is your turn to do what you will need to do."
Pixie nodded. She understood why and she didn’t bother to ask Elaina about it either. As the eldest of the fairies and the final remnant of the fairies, she will have to talk to this new batch of fairies and will need to talk about some topics for the future. She will also have to explain things that Elaina does not like that they may find strange. But she knew that it would be fine.
...
...
...
The other people finally awakened from their drunkness and most of them are suffering from hangovers. Elaina had to let them drink a few cups of water to reduce their hangover. She heard bananas can also help but since she doesn’t have any, the only thing she can offer is water. There was also a myth that coffee helps with the hangover but she does not believe that as many have said that it might help stave off the tiredness they feel after their drunken stupor but not enough to reduce the effects of one.
She is thankful that she does not need to feel the pain of having a hangover with her developed constitution.
After fixing and cleaning the place, everyone is back to their duties. Her grandpa and grandma are going to check back on the guild again to see the results of the battle and to oversee the rebuilding process as well.
With the farmhouse returning to its former order, Elaina returned the crib of the twins and put them inside. Now that she had no work left to do today, Elaina decided to hang out with her babies. According to Julia the other day, the babies are now trying to crawl.
To see how they do, Elaina put the two babies on the carpet. The floor is clean but she prefers that the babies practice crawling on a softer floor and the carpet helps with that as it allows to smoothen the floor a bit.
She put both the babies lying on their backs. The moment she did, Arthur immediately rolled over and tried to use both his hands and knees to start crawling. He is not good yet, but Elaina is honestly looking forward to learning how to do it.
As for Adelaide, she rolled over, but she didn’t bother to crawl like Arthur did. Instead, she just remained there lying sideways. Elaina didn’t force Adelaide to do the same as Arthur. If she is not in the mood to crawl, it’s fine. She didn’t want to force her babies to do their practices. If they needed to learn it, she would only watch and she would not intervene. She believes that parents should be there to let the babies develop themselves without the assistance of the parents. That way, they will develop faster and let their brains rely on themselves.
While thinking about it, Elaina was then surprised when all of a sudden, Adelaide stood up on her own, which is rare for a baby her age. Before she can even recover from her shock, Elaina is given another shock when Adelaide turns around her and starts walking like a grown-up child. No signs of falling, or even signs that she will trip over.
She couldn’t believe her eyes and Elaina was not expecting it either. She was expecting her to practice crawling first instead of walking just yet...and her expectations were broken the moment Adelaide did the unthinkable.
Adelaide walk towards her and started to hug her. Elaina of course hugged her daughter, only for her daughter to suddenly mutter her first word.
"Mama."
