Chapter 258: The End of Everlasting Winter [III]

The saintess is feeling groggy after what she experienced but she is still feeling the pain in her whole body. She didn’t collapse thanks to her rapid healing body trait that any saintesses gain upon awakening their powers.

But despite that trait, it wasn’t enough to quickly heal the injuries and trauma that Elaina dealt to her personally. Elaina is not merciful either but she still needs to know the reasons. She wanted the saintess to pay the price of causing trouble all over Darcero Kingdom and causing troubles to the everyday life of everyone.

"It seems you are getting well enough, yes? Then, what is your reasoning for causing this everlasting winter? There is no way you decided to do this because it is fun or something."

The saintess subconsciously swallowed her saliva as she glanced at Elaina. Her imposing demands and aura from earlier almost caused her to die, and if not for them, she was guaranteed to collapse from the pressure alone. She had no idea who this woman was, but if she didn’t comply with her words, she was sure that something bad would happen to her, and she didn’t want that to happen.

"I didn’t start it and it wasn’t my idea in the beginning...it was just because of my unique traits, I am a compatible temporary host to keep the power of the Ice Lord until he is resurrected."

Elaina frowned at hearing this. "So you intend to resurrect the Ice Lord, is that what you are saying?"

"At first...we only planned to unseal him. The hero wanted to defeat him once and for all so that he would gain more glory to the populace and since there are fewer threats around the world right now, he decided that instead of looking for one, we would instead make one. It resulted in us releasing the Ice Lord. But the problem was that the seal would not be easily removed and it also turned out the Ice Lord is already dead."

Elaina immediately recalled what the gods said when they revealed that the Ice Lord’s seal remained intact. It was indeed true that the seal remained intact as they didn’t get to undo the seal itself. However, what happened instead that caused the abnormal weather?

"After we confirmed the Ice Lord is dead, the hero proposed that we revive the Ice Lord to kill him again. To do that, I needed to use his essence, absorb his power for a bit, and let his core recover before we returned it to his sealed body before we tried to unseal him in the process. But as soon as I began doing so, the weather in the Darcero Kingdom began to change."

"Alright. So you guys are indeed the main culprit of this phenomenon of brutal winters, but why only in winter?" Elaina asked. She knew that the phenomenon had been going on for years as the locals already told her about the escalating brutality of the winter season every year, it’s just that the brutal winter is much more troublesome than previous years.

The Saintess chuckled. "Simple. Because we can only come to Darcero Kingdom in winter as a way to have a "vacation" for ourselves. And the healing process only works whenever we are near the sealed body which is why the healing progress is slow. But this year, we are almost ready and we are almost done in revitalizing the Ice Lord’s core. We are so close...and yet we are stopped by you. Therefore, we are no longer able to do it."

"Where is the core now?"

"Why should I tell you?" the Saintess chuckled.

"Because I can do this," Elaina grinned and twirled her fingers, causing the Binding Vine Chain to tighten its hold on the body of the Saintess.

"AAAAAAHH! MAKE IT STOP!" The Saintess screamed in pain as the vine continued to tighten. The Saintess is even vomiting blood from her mouth as well as she continues to let the vine tight up more.

"Gods, what do I do now?" Elaina asked as she is now stumped at what to do next.

"[If she said that she had the core of the Ice Lord for recuperation, it must mean it was somewhere in her body. Perhaps in her pocket, in her little bag, or anywhere else, like inside her clothes. You need to retrieve that before the core is fully functional once again.]" the Goddess of Medicine quickly instructed Elaina.

Elaina didn’t waste her time and started searching the Saintess without her permission. Since she was screaming in pain, she was not aware of what was happening and Elaina was taking advantage of that.

She just searched around her body when she saw a necklace with a huge marble-like thing being held by the pendant holder of her necklace.

"[Wait, Elaina! That’s the one! That is the core we are looking for!]" the Goddess of Taming quickly pointed out.

Hearing that the core is the necklace itself, Elaina tears the necklace from the Saintess’s neck and separates the two forcefully. As soon as the necklace broke to pieces she pulled it off, and she heard a loud crack which caused the surroundings to suddenly start freezing up.

"What the...?!"

The people started running away after seeing the freezing land start to crawl to them. Only Dr. Fey, Julia, and Duke Darcy did not run and they are also panicking about what to do but they can’t just leave Elaina there alone.

When Elaina is panicking, a message from the gods appeared before Elaina, prompting her to open and read it.

"[BREAK IT!]" the God of Farming quickly instructed Elaina.

Without much choice on the matter, Elaina threw the core into the air, and with one swift strike, Elaina sliced the core in the air, destroying the core in half.

As soon as the core was destroyed and landed on the ground, the freezing process immediately stopped. Not only that, but a huge heatwave suddenly occurred, coming from the broken core, and spreading throughout the entire Darcero Kingdom, hot enough to remove all the snow in the kingdom.

The destruction of the Ice Lord’s core is also the end of the Everlasting Winter.
