A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 231: Reunion with the Duke

Chapter 231: Reunion with the Duke

Since Elaina was injured a bit from the frostbite she got after being frozen, she had to stay inside the farm. She had Julia head to the guild and report it to Elaina’s grandparents and investigate the area to see if there were any more presence of the Snow Men lurking around.

As for Elaina, she remained in the farmhouse with everyone else as she slowly recovered from her injuries. Elaina decided not to call Dr. Fey about this matter as it was pretty minor and she didn’t need the extra effort of disturbing a busy doctor from her job just because of a minor injury.

"Who would have thought that the Snow Man was looking like that? I heard about them before but with their names, I thought they were made of snow and were ball-shaped and stacked together to form the body and begin moving around but they are much more terrifying and dangerous. However, based on your description after fighting it, it seems to be some kind of construct...considering that it has a core that keeps it alive until it is destroyed. Perhaps they are also golems but made out of snow?" the Harvest Goddess thought.

"But then how would you explain their capabilities to shapeshift and blend into the air like a ghost? That is not something even golems and constructs can do at the moment," Elaina asked.

"True. Golems and Constructs are not capable of doing that. If they were indeed constructs, their cores would have been stuck the moment they tried to enter using that little gap in the window. Their bodies might be capable of destroying and rebuilding it as long as their core is still intact, but that doesn’t mean that includes the core. The core will remain solid no matter what. But if that Snow Man is capable of involving its core to move around in tight spaces then that is not a construct at all. That is a different being altogether," the Harvest Goddess sighed.

While everyone is not sure what to think about this new foe, the Feys...or rather, one of them, Poe approaches the group and voices out what she was thinking which is surprisingly about the Snow Man still.

"Although I think it is a construct as well, based on the behaviors that you guys have mentioned, I think this is another monster that only has the same structure as a construct, but not exactly called one."

"Hmm, what are you trying to say?" the Harvest Goddess raised her eyebrows.

"Think. Aren’t there some monsters who do have a core but don’t belong to the constructs category?"

When posed the question, Elaina remembered two monsters that have indeed belonged to other monster categories and one of them is one of the recent monsters she had defeated before.

"I know two of them. A Skeleton undead and a slime."

The Harvest Goddess was surprised and soon realized it as well. "An amorphous and an undead. Indeed, both of them contain cores as well. They don’t belong to the Construct categories too."

Poe nodded. "Yes. Since cores are not limited to constructs, which means that the Snow Man is also not a construct-type monster either. Based on how it managed to sneak through a closed-off room and used a small passage to enter, it must be a different thing...or perhaps it entered differently."

"A different way, you say?" the Harvest Goddess frowned.

"But there are no other gaps that would allow it to enter freely?" Elaina also frowned at hearing what Poe said.

"Indeed there is none aside from the single small gap. But what if this Snow Man...is capable of phasing through walls?"

Hearing that, the two girls were surprised and even Elaina didn’t think of it like that.

"But if they are capable of phasing through walls...then they should be a ghost-type monster!"

Poe shrugged. "I don’t know. As I said before, it is a possibility. Since the Snow Man is dead, we can’t know if it was capable of that feat indeed. However, it is indeed possible and the Snow Man just phased through the walls, allowing it to enter without much problem."

The Harvest Goddess nodded in response. "Honestly, I do think it is indeed a ghost-type monster Elaina. How it floats and how it can use elemental magic as well as its self-destruction power once its core is destroyed, is a trait that most ghost monsters hold."

Elaina fell into deep thoughts as she thought about it. As she was busy trying to give her own reasoning as well, the door opened and Julia returned from the Guild behind her, she brought Elaina’s grandparents and one other person who Elaina had met before. Their eyes met and the two were surprised.

"It’s you!"

"I know you!"

The two simultaneously said as they pointed at each other. Grandfather scratched his head as he looked at the two and sighed.

"I was about to introduce this guy to you, Elaina but it seems that you two have already met before without me knowing."

Duke Darcy looked at Grandpa and talked. "Sir Rakkan! This is the woman I told you before who saved me when I ran out of bullets!"

Hearing this Grandma chuckled and looked at Duke Darcy with a grin.

"Hoho, so it was our granddaughter you have met, Duke Darcy. No wonder we frowned on the way you said a farmer who knows how to use a sword. So it was Elaina herself. If you had said her name before, perhaps we would have known."

"Ah..." Duke Darcy realized that he asked the elderly about Elaina but forgot to even give out her name, making his inquiry hard.

"Haha. It is a small world so that encounter should be normal, dear. Anyway, that should be enough. Elaina, we are here to respond according to the reports that Julia has put on the guild and a request for a survey. What exactly happened? We needed to know so that we can officially start conducting a survey and learn what we are looking against," Grandpa said.

Still exhausted, Elaina hands over the pieces of shards remaining from the Snow Man currently inside the tied-up cloth that was left behind by the monster’s body after it exploded.

Duke Darcy’s eyes opened wide as he saw the cloth and immediately grabbed it from Elaina’s hands.

"Where did you get this?" he asked Elaina who was startled by Duke Darcy’s actions.

"I killed a monster that invaded here inside the house after it entered my room and tried to harm my children," Elaina quickly explained while looking at Duke Darcy with creased brows.

"You know about this, young man?" Grandpa asked.

"Of course. I am so familiar with it as we defeated a bunch of them not too long ago. Remember when I said that we entered the Domain of the Sealed Frost back then and had to fight monsters that should have been extinct with my team? Yeah, those monsters leave these things behind. And inside of this cloth, these broken pieces of little metallic thing. These are their shards once they explode to pieces."

"You mean...?!"

"Indeed. The Snow Men. It seems they have spread far and wide."

The God of Farming also expressed his frown after hearing Duke Darcy about the domain that he mentioned casually.

"[Did he just say that those Snow Men came out from the Domain of the Sealed Frost? No way...]"

"You know something?"

"[Looks like we are too late, the Ice Lord might already be unsealed from his seal. If that is the case, he is already preparing to envelop the whole world in Eternal Winter in the future. Elaina, if this continues, you will not be able to continue farming as you used to as the season will no longer change and remain in Eternal Winter.]"
