Chapter 203: The Labyrinth [II]
The three entered the dungeon and just like last time, Elaina still remembered its previous structure. Aside from how unremarkable and common it is, it has no striking qualities that would make the dungeon remembered. The monsters here are also not something that warrants total danger as well. Sure, the Hencluckle can be a headache if it calls multiple monsters in an area but other than that, they aren’t a big threat. The kobolds that occasionally appear are also not troublesome, making this matter a bit useless. And to top it off, it has no second floor or additional areas to explore and some good loot like some boss rooms. This place only exists to train newbie adventurers to get some minor experience before tackling a more dangerous dungeon.
"The dungeon doesn’t look different like in the maps. Elaina, are you sure that there exists a labyrinth here?" Grandma asked.
"Yeah. But like you said, I am not sure about it either."
Elaina glanced at the Almanac’s new addition, the map function, and remembered an area of the map that they hadn’t explored and what she remembered to be a dead end. She remembered that part since she remarked the dead end of the dungeon when they arrived there previously.
She didn’t say anything here but continued to head to the area where the dead end was located with her grandparents in tow. The moment they arrived, the three stopped at the obvious dead end that Elaina had seen a few months ago.
"Well, it’s a dead end. And I don’t sense any places that could potentially lead to any area," Granma surveys the area with her magic.
"We shouldn’t rule things out just yet. I feel something is not right in here. Perhaps we are just missing something.
Elaina on the other hand went to the right side of the dead end. The map indicates that there is indeed a path hidden behind this wall of rocks. She touched the rocks and realized why the path was not easily seen. Despite looking like rocks, it was just an illusion, hiding the very path they were looking.
"Grandma, Grandpa, I think I found something."
Hearing what Elaina said, the two headed over to Elaina and looked at Elaina’s hand, phasing through the rocks.
"An illusion?! But how? My magic did not detect it!" Grandma couldn’t believe it. She tried casting her detection magic over the illusion and just like her previous results, the illusion remained undetectable.
"Illusion that cannot be detected, that is the first, but that is indeed possible. Seeing that a manual inspection allowed us to see the real illusion, this is something that can be cleared easily but because we humans rely on detection magic, this kind of illusion is usually bypassed and neglected. Elaina, would you be so kind as to cut the illusion and stop it from doing its thing?"
"Eh? But Grandpa? I don’t have that kind of power, you know?"
"Dear, did you forget that our grandchild is not the swordmaster we had in our team back in the day? Compared to him, Elaina cannot slice illusion like that."
Realizing that he scratches his head and feels embarrassed after this mistake.
"Oops, my bad. But how do we even destroy the illusion?"
"I think it was not meant to be destroyed, Grandpa. Look, I can pass through this illusion back and forth just fine. It seems the only reason this illusion is present is to stop anyone from knowing the hidden path behind this illusion."
"Well, we don’t need to make it harder for ourselves, shall we?" Grandma smiled and passed through the illusion as well. As for Grandpa, he just scratches his head and goes inside the illusion as well.
...
...
...
Compared to the unremarkable dungeon before, the path now is overwhelming with energy, and even Elaina who is not sensitive to magic can also feel the power that is flowing through the place.
"This is strange. This power level is enough to call this dungeon as high as Level 8 to Level 10, perhaps even reaching the EX levels of danger level. How was this not detected at all?" Grandma was surprised as the meter that measures the danger level of the dungeon is increasing and decreasing which means the place is beyond the metric device’s capacity to measure.
"I think that illusion was the main reason. Due to that illusion, the danger level that should be normal for this dungeon was reduced to the point it became like this. And I think the illusion acts as a barrier, as well as that, prevents the monsters appearing there from becoming overly powerful to become a threat as well. Which means, it was a good thing we didn’t destroy that illusion from the very beginning."
"Then, Grandpa, does that mean this place is dangerous?" Elaina asked.
"Not necessarily. However, compared to the other dungeons, the first level of the dungeon of these levels is considered to be the haven before descending to madness. And perhaps the plot of land you mentioned before is the place where one can relax before entering the dungeon’s real danger."
As they continue to walk, they soon can smell a very familiar smell of grass, in the distance. It wasn’t very strong compared to the pastures outside the dungeons, but the smell is still unusual to be smelled inside a dungeon except if it is a dungeon that is focused on monsters that are plant types.
And before their eyes, the three were greeted by a very huge field of grass as wide as their eyes could see. It is very green, and it smells the same as those pasture lands that she can’t deny that this place is very much nice place to grow plants.
"What the...this is Spring Season...Does that mean..." Grandma was surprised.
"Yes, Grandma...it seems we are on the Spring Season Field."
Damn, I know this dungeon seems to be hiding a big surprise after hearing it has something new, but didn’t expect this. An Eternal Spring Season.
Although Elaina’s field is much bigger compared to the field for the spring season, this is big enough to handle multiple plants that can be planted exclusively for spring and still have space for more.
However, that’s not all. If the journal is to be believed, then the Spring Season field is not the only one present right now.
Elaina runs over to the end of the field to check it out and just like what she expected, outside the field where the spring season is happening, the regular season is happening outside of it. However, just the opposite side of the Spring Season is one weather that Elaina remembers... the Summer Season in that area is another plot of field the same size as the Spring Season Field, but this time, it is now handling the season of summer.
"I knew it! It seems that not only do we have one season in this place, but we are currently holding four seasons in each corner of this place!"
Elaina wanted to check out the other field as well but as soon as she heads over to the dead center of the field, a staircase appears and is currently leading down. And the feeling of intense power is coming straight from this place.
"I see. This place is a respite that everyone can enjoy before handling the trouble underneath us. A place where someone can pack their consumables and prepare themselves for a small expedition."
"You already have a verdict, Dear? Grandma asked.
"Yes. And based on my observations and what Elaina told us about, it means that the journal is not lying. Which means we will have to regularly head down to that place and fight. We will have to descend and fight inside the labyrinth itself."
