Chapter 202: The Labyrinth [I]
CLANG!
The sword on Princess Tabatha’s hands flew into the distance after being parried and deflected by Elaina from their sparring session.
Princess Tabatha sat down on the ground and caught her breath as she smiled after being defeated.
"I must say, Master, it looks like you are returning to when you last fought me," Princess Tabatha said.
"Slightly, not yet fully though, I can feel it. There are still some parts I needed some refreshers so far but it is just very slight. It is enough for me to fight properly now without too much restraint," Elaina said as she held her hand to assist Princess Tabatha to stand up.
"The words spoken by the people are true, the saint’s power is quite amazing," Princess Tabatha praised Elaina’s grandmother.
"Haha, I am grateful to her. If not for her healing abilities, I would have taken some time recovering and not doing well for quite a while."
After Princess Tabatha took her sword, she sheathed it back to her scabbard.
"You’re going back early?" Elaina was surprised since usually, Princess Tabatha requests extensions.
"Yes, Master. I have lots of work to do at the marketplace, especially since winter is coming here and all. Business is very busy for me and so I must not tarry long enough to let my subordinates handle the work. They are still quite sloppy with their hands and I needed to be there to guide them."
"Fair enough. Winter seems to be going to be a cold one and I can see why everyone is already preparing for it."
"Yes. So it might be a while before I can visit and ask for training again. Perhaps this midwinter once everything finally settles down. I will be swamped with too much work soon enough so I must say this in advance in case you must be wondering," Princess Tabatha said.
"Good to know. Be sure to practice from time to time. Don’t forget the fundamentals I have taught you or you might forget them immediately."
"Don’t worry, Master. Please take care of Margaux for me."
Elaina simply nodded and watched as Princess Tabatha left the farm. After the morning practice, Elaina returned to the farmhouse and checked on her two babies. The two are still sleeping, perhaps because they woke up too early. She didn’t have much of a problem contrary to what first-time parents say, perhaps because she had prepared for the actual day. And maybe because she has prepared too much for their arrival now, she finds it a bit too easy even though she is just a single mother.
Her only problem is the fact that she has little time to keep them occupied all day. She also has to work to ensure that the farm keeps running and not just leave it to the hands of Feys and Curaj. She made sure to have time for her kids though so she isn’t having too many time management problems. But she is grateful that her babies aren’t too demanding in terms of childcare. They are very easy to care for, and they usually just sleep most of the time. They only cry whenever they are hungry or if their diapers need to be changed.
Julia also was a very big help as well. Although she said that she had no experience in handling babies, she does so well with it that Elaina wondered if Julia was telling the truth or not.
"Sis, are you now going to try and explore the labyrinth today?" Julia asked who was currently in the kitchen and preparing the breakfast.
"Yeah. Grandpa and Grandma said that they have time for today and would like to see for themselves the so-called "eternal seasons farm" situated on the labyrinth. I will also try to find some monsters that might be a good one to tame," Elaina headed over to the table and a plate floated in front of her before a few sets of utensils dropped as well."
"It’s a bit sad that I can’t go but I have more fun taking care of the babies so far so I am not too disappointed. And I won’t be lonely since Curaj and Princess Margaux will be here as well so it will be fun regardless.
"If only I could bring them with me then it would have been alright to bring you along as well since your magic would be incredibly useful."
The two have a hearty breakfast as usual and are chatting while eating. In the middle of their breakfast, the two woke up and Elaina had to breastfeed them since they were hungry. After the babies got their fill, Julia said that she would handle the two and let them burp before laying them back in their cribs.
Elaina went inside her room and changed to her flexible outfit that is meant for fighting and exploring around. She also brought the storage bag and put the specialized scabbard holder to put her sword beside her hip, having it for easy access.
After getting changed, Elaina kissed both of her babies on the forehead and reminded Zaza and Shardu to guard the home as usual. As for her grandparents, they are already investigating the labyrinth itself and are just waiting for Elaina to arrive for them to attempt to explore the place. They gave her time to prepare and get ready and to also take care of her kids before they did the job.
"You are just in time, Elaina. We have just finished surveying the dungeon’s entrance and I must say that the readings remain the same. It is a normal one-star dungeon," Granpa said and showed Elaina the device that is used to measure the danger levels of dungeons.
"Are you sure that thing is not broken? I do feel something inside the dungeon that I can’t pinpoint, to be honest. What Elaina said might be true and something is indeed hidden here."
"I already asked the people in the guild and they say that this is working properly. Perhaps you are just feeling it wrong?"
"No way. I might be getting in my years but I am not decrepit yet for my senses to dull so much."
"If that is the case, exploring and seeing it with our own eyes would be much better than just relying on a gadget, just like the old days."
Elaina just watched the two argue like it was normal and just smiled. Perhaps this was how the two were when they were still young and when they were still active heroes doing their jobs. Seeing them back on the case made Elaina a bit happy to see it happen. And for once, she will be accompanying them on one of their investigations and see how they work together for once.
As they enter the dungeons, the God of Farming suddenly sends her a message.
"[Elaina, since you will now start to regularly enter this dungeon soon enough, look at your almanac and see the Map function that I added. This will help you a lot in the future as well so make good use of it in case you and your companions get lost there.]"
Elaina was surprised. For the God of Farming to warrant the need to use a map, this will mean that the labyrinth inside this dungeon will be a big exploration that needs to be done and there will be some potentially big reasons to get lost here in the process.
"Thanks. I will make good use of it."
