Chapter 148: "Garden Guardians"

Elaina and the girls returned safely to the farm. What’s waiting for them is the surprise gift that Troy has already planned out. Because he had already anticipated the verdict, he was quite enthusiastic, and thankfully for him, the prediction did come true, as Elaina finally divorced her good-for-nothing husband.

The girls enjoyed their whole time and even Elaina for the first time decided not to hold back as well and celebrate the rare joyous occasion that she had acquired. She knows there will be consequences for this but for now, she will ignore all of it and think about it later. Even the gods decided they should step back and let them enjoy their time as Elaina deserved it.

The group enjoyed their time until the party ended at nightfall after everyone fell asleep from exhaustion. They might be exhausted, but they are happy and are ready to begin a new start.

However, it seems the happiness was short-lived as Elaina received the news of Emperor Alfred escaping his captivity and fled alongside a few assassins who wiped out the guardsmen supposed to carry Alfred back to jail. Even the soldiers who were captured alongside him who was left in prison also managed to escape which made a bit of a big stir at the current situation to the soldiers. However, she is not surprised in the slightest that this happened. She was more surprised that he took this long to break out of jail.

But now that he is out of jail, Elaina knows that Alfred will return and will start to force his way back into her life again. It’s not going to happen immediately, but it is going to happen soon. Although Alfred has yet to know he became impotent due to what Troy did to him on that fateful night, that news will quickly come and tensions will rise regarding the future heirs. Elaina has to prepare for the worst in the future as she knows that things will never be easy.

"[Can’t believe your celebration was this shortlived, Elaina.]" the God of Farming said to Elaina as she was preparing to continue the restoration of her farm.

"It is what it is. Can’t do anything if he decides to escape or not. Whatever he does, that’s none of my business," Elaina calmly said.

"[For now, at least. But remember that you are carrying his children on your belly right now. There is no way that he will just leave you alone in the future.]"

"I will be prepared until then. By the time he reappeared in our life, I would probably give birth, allowing me to return to my prime. So I am not worried."

"[Well, not me, Elaina. Therefore, like I said before, I will be bestowing you the ability to buy these exclusive seeds that I locked in progression and unlocked it exclusively for you. You can say that this is some sort of generosity on my part as you needed it and I think this is more beneficial to you if it is unlocked much earlier. What can I even do if you don’t unlock it since you are now incapable of farming again due to something out of your control? Which is why I would say that this is something you would need to have on your farm.]"

Elaina is quite confident about what the God of Farming offers to her. After all, most of them are too overpowered and unbalanced to the point that they could crash the market for days if released with the frequency that these plants had grown and bear fruit.

However, Elaina is not sure about this one. According to the god of farming, it is going to be a necessity in her farm but she is not sure how necessary it was until the time she saw what was newly unlocked on the ledger.

After the God of Farming told Elaina that a new batch of seeds was now available for sale to Elaina, Elaina decided to check on the ledger and saw that the seeds had indeed expanded their collection.

As usual, the seeds are divided into their respective seasons, growth times, and whether they bear fruit continuously, or just a one-time plant but this time, it seems a new category was added and it is the new seeds that were added.

"Garden Guardians?" Elaina frowned. She is not sure what to say about the name of the seeds or if they are part of some batches of seeds and that is just what they are labeled. But since it was in the category, that must mean these seeds are different.

Elaina opened the page for the Garden Guardians and the pages flips towards the pages where the newly added seeds are currently on sale and where their initial descriptions are. The seeds have distinctive symbols in them to allow her to distinguish which is which. But for some reason, Elaina wasn’t expecting to see the symbols of the seed bags.

One has the label of the sword, the other has a gun and the other is a bear trap that Elaina is not sure about it. She decided to first look at the seed bag with the sword label in it and read the description.

Elaina was shocked. Did she read that correctly? A vine plant that will grow into a sword? Will attack enemies on its own? Elaina can only feel shock after knowing what it is. She is more confused than ever before.

"Hey, hey. I don’t know what this is, but is this a legit thing? Like they became a sword and can attack?"

"[Yes. Even I can vouch about that. Although the so-called "sword" that this plant grows into is still made from plant materials, they are still as hard and sharp as a normal sword and they can slice opponents like they can slice humanoid creatures if promptly allowed. You can say that this is the perfect bodyguard for everyone looking for simple yet straightforward security.]" the god of farming said, advertising the goods like a professional merchant.

For the first time, Elaina is not convinced and is worried about these seeds. Not only that but can they even control these plants from assaulting enemies and friendlies? That is one of her issues.

"[I can tell that you are worried in case these little guys will attack innocent people. Don’t worry. Unless given a specific order of attacking indiscriminately, they will first determine whether the person is deemed hostile or not. They can detect auras and intent using the pheromones built into their bodies, allowing them to distinguish enemies and foes alike. And I am 99.9 percent sure that they will not be a burden.]"

"What about the remaining percentage?"

"[Well, even machines have troubles, these little guys do as well. So there is a chance things will not go that well.]"

Elaina is still not convinced so she decided to check the second one, where the seed bag has a label of a gun.

After reading the description of the second plant, Elaina now understands why the label of the category is called "Garden Guardians" because that is their literal role. They act as makeshift guardians of the farm and they can be lethal or nonlethal. There are lots of different seed bags present, meaning, there are tons and a variety of plants that can be used for defensive purposes.

"Why does this exist in the first place? And does this even appear normally without being bought from the ledger directly?"

"[To answer your first question, the reason they exist is to ensure that places that have them will finally feel at ease that their properties are protected. I designed them for that purpose on mind and it came out pretty well. As for the second question, it does exist and some people of this world are even cultivating and using those things. As for the reason this is not so widespread and a well-known thing, I made sure to limit it to ensure that this guy will not be misused by foul behavior people.]"
