A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods -
Chapter 128: Duty of a Farmer
Chapter 128: Duty of a Farmer
Elaina was a bit confused about what the little journal implied, so she kept reading.
"Don’t be alarmed. Although what I am saying sounds dangerous if you have been farming since the very beginning, then you are fine, and keep it up because that is exactly what is needed for you to be living here. A dedicated farmer who keeps the farm alive.
This sounds strange because there is a hidden meaning as to why this farm is very big, very fertile, and very prone to monsters to the point where if you are not capable of fighting or defending yourself from them or even the farm, then you will suffer a lot of setbacks. I know that whoever is reading this is someone of that caliber as they wouldn’t even be reading this journal in the first place since I made sure the way to the second floor is broken. And only those who are living comfortably on this farmhouse would think of repairing it in the first place."
Elaina finally knew why the stairs were broken. It wasn’t because of old age that it broke into pieces, but because someone intentionally broke it. And since it hasn’t been used for long, the broken steps became unstable over the years, it contributes to covering the tracks of the writer of the journal that reveals he was the one who intentionally stopped people from reaching the second floor.
"Is it something interesting Sis?" Julia asked.
"I don’t know. I am still reading it and I am still a bit confused. I need to read further for now."

"Okay, let’s start with your duty. I mentioned before that you need to be a farmer right? Yes. The reason why this is important is that it is helping the land remain pure and produce a lot of mana. By now, you might have noticed that both monsters and some other races are pretty comfortable staying on the farm. That is because of the pure mana in the surroundings that allows them to remain active without the need to move around. In short, it is a place where spirits and monsters can feel tranquil and recover their wounds much faster. Think of the place as some sort of sanctuary for them. Without crops growing or if no one attended on the farm for too long, the power of the land will slowly disappear and when it dries up, the surrounding land will also dry up as well, creating the whole kingdom’s land as infertile due to this and no more plant will grow properly without careful consideration."

Reading through it, Elaina finally understood and also realized the reason why the spirits were comfortable there. It also explains why Shardu is healing fast while staying during the time Shardu was wounded. As for the Harvest Goddess, it seems that she is not lying when she says that before she became the farmer there, her powers were losing their potency and it is not because she lost a believer but more like she has been losing it since the land she was staying is losing all of the power she uses. As for the reason she needed those offerings, Elaina decided to just ignore her lies since she is enjoying being generous to the Harvest Goddess and she is also helping in her ways.
Elaina decided to continue to move into the journal.
"Most of what is written here is manual for those who are newbies to farming but for those who already have an idea or experience in that regard, you are most likely not going to need most of what I have written here except for a few points here and there. Anyways, being a farmer living here is a big task. So don’t ever stop farming here for the sake of the people in the Darcero Kingdom and keep this knowledge a secret. The fewer people who know it, the better. As to why I am not passing the responsibility of this matter to someone else, it is because I have no one that I know that I can consider as trustworthy. By the time you might be reading this, I might be dead from my injuries or something similar somewhere.
Oh, and one more thing. The dungeon nearby is something that is very dangerous to venture into. It is one of those dungeons that is called an "endless labyrinth". The only reason it isn’t fully explored is because the dungeon itself has a seal that stops anyone from venturing further...unless you are a farmer. One thing I can say to you is that this dungeon is more of a greenhouse for you once you utilize it. Confused? Let me rephrase it. The dungeon’s soil and climate are different from the outside and you can use that to your advantage to farm inside it as each section of the dungeon is currently governed by an eternal season.
If you plan to explore, be sure to check the mural by the very end of the dungeon that would look like a normal wall and fulfill what is written there. Fulfilling it will allow you to gain access to the remainder of the dungeon’s interior and its endless labyrinth. Each area will be under one season. One side would be eternal spring, one side would be eternal summer, one side would be eternal autumn, and one side would be forever winter. Each seasonal area is a plot of land where you can plant anything that is on that season which is pretty neat. Don’t ask me how this is happening because even I have no idea why this was a thing. Heard that it was some sort of ancient thing that gods gave to people but I don’t know how legit that claim was. But in any case, it is the eternal season of whatever over there.
Located at the very center of that area are the stairs that would lead you to the endless labyrinth. I tried to descend it last time and I only lasted around floor 20. I am not too strong so I can’t say what is the very bottom but according to the ancient text, it extends for very, very far so if you plan to also utilize that, be careful.

After reading those last pages, the rest of the pages are his tips for newbie farmers that Elaina doesn’t need or has less need. She closed the journal and sighed after knowing the whole truth.
"Wow, I didn’t know that! Looks like I hit the jackpot indeed," Elaina is genuinely happy.
"Sis?" Julia looks confused while Princess Margaux seems to be curious about why Elaina is excited.
"It seems the duty of being a farmer here is not so bad after all."
