Chapter 125: Farm House Repair

Two days have passed after Elaina started to cultivate the Lotus seeds and prepping them to sprout, Elaina is finally able to take hold of the Woodworks to take her job. Jacob is finally back from his previous work and is now ready to accept another set of commissions again. After knowing his schedule was free once more, Elaina didn’t waste a single moment to talk business with Jacob to repair the house.

Right now, Jacob is currently assessing the farmhouse repair cost and material cost.

She is prepared for the cost and she is ready to use it as long as the farmhouse will be refurbished and repaired.

"Hmm, based on the layout inside, this won’t cost you much but after checking some parts of the house, it is safe to assume that we needed to replace the majority of the house’s structural integrity to ensure they won’t collapse the moment I start the repair process."

"Will it take a long process?"

"Not really. Since the house was already formed, I just needed to follow through with it like a blueprint and replace parts that were no longer in good shape and form with new, sturdy parts. You also wanted to create a new room as well and that is a bit easier to do as well, so it won’t cost much. I can see some areas where the wood is still in pretty good shape while in some parts, it’s just no longer possible to be salvaged. So for the repair and replacement fees, I will take 2, 500 gold for the fee," Jacob calculated.

"Wait, 2,500 gold? Are you sure?"

"Is it too expensive?" Jacob asked.

"No! But this is too cheap! I was expecting you to charge a lot more since this is a bit big of a house to repair."

"No. 2,500 gold is plenty enough. It’s not like I will have to recreate this house from scratch. Repairing all of the broken parts is not a big problem and this isn’t a big work for me to do. 2,500 gold it is."

Elaina is a bit speechless about it. Is this really how Jacob works? Because she felt like she could save a lot of money because of how Jacob does everything. She already knows how well Jacob works after his work with the Chicken Coop and also the repair of the fence and gates, but the cost is just too small to the point that even Elaina thinks that Jacob is working on a losing contract.

"I assure you that this cost is enough and I am not ripping my customers nor I was even losing money."

Elaina sighed. Although she is quite capable and knowledgeable in the market and the flow of money and business, perhaps she is just touching the surface and still has more things to learn.

"Then, can you tell me the cost of the building materials?"

"I can also charge you 3,000 gold if you decide to use only the quality wood. Using that money, I will use it to repair this place back to its former glory. Of course, you can also change the material and add in the stones and concrete which will make my charge to 3,000 gold to 12,000 cost. Concrete and stone are a bit expensive and although I won’t convert everything to concrete, I will use the majority of the materials into concrete and mix it in with both stones and wood."

Elaina was surprised. 12,000 gold is something she was expecting to be the work cost that Jacob would ask her for the repair of the whole house and the materials would be another beast of cost to pay but she wouldn’t expect that wasn’t the actual case.

"Ummm, hello? Are you alright?" Jacob waves his hands in front of Elaina which snaps her back to reality.

"Huh? Oh, can you repeat that?"

"I told you that if you decided to choose the stone, concrete, and wood upgrade alongside the cost of my repairs, the cost you needed to pay me would be 15,500 and the work would last for 10 days. Of course, if it was the latter part. If you just wanted the wood, it would only cost you 5,500. My recommendation would be to choose the more expensive one. Not only do you no longer need to upgrade to stone in the future, but if you plan to expand or upgrade your house again to another level, then you can skip one upgrading process in one go and you don’t need to worry about it not lasting long enough. As for the doghouse repair, I will throw that in as a freebie since it doesn’t need much materials to repair in the first place."

Elaina can say that the cost is not expensive. It almost costs the same as the cost of the barn which is a bit absurd for her but she didn’t complain as she knows how expensive both concrete and stone materials are. After hearing the cost, Elaina extends her hand to Jacob.

"I accept. I hope you deliver the same good work as before."

"I don’t half-ass my work. You can count on me to deliver the quality," Jacob said without even smiling. He is serious about the work.

Once the offer is finalized, Jacob left and will immediately start to fetch both the materials and the tools he needed to start his work. Elaina asked if they needed to move away and stay somewhere else while he works but Jacob said that it is optional for them. They can move away and move to another place for the time being, or remain on the farm. Both work fine and whichever choice they are comfortable with.

After discussing this matter with the others everyone decided to remain on the farm. Since Jacob guarantees that they will be safe while he is working, they decide to trust Jacob to do it.

Elaina can start to exhale calmly now that the project is starting once more. She is starting to see the results of her efforts appear before her eyes, slowly but surely. The sense of accomplishment seeing this matter happen right before her eyes is something that she could not have accomplished back when she was the empress.

"Heh, boy I am glad I decided to ditch the royal life and become a farmer instead. I am going to show my husband that I don’t need his support to remain afloat in this business and he can just go ahead and marry my sister instead. I will make him regret his choices and let him know that the world doesn’t just revolve around him just because he is the emperor."

Now that Elaina has her newfound goal of raising her kids until adulthood, she will make sure that she gives both of them the environment to be enough even without the need of someone like their father to watch over them.
