Chapter 120: Melon Harvesting Time

Yesterday, Elaina couldn’t clean up and dry the blood of the carcass they brought back because it was already too late to do so which is why they postponed the cleanup process and decided to just hold it until the next day which is currently today.

Elaina sat groggily in her bed as she realized it was already morning. Elaina sighed as she didn’t expect to feel tired even after a good night’s sleep. It was like she was ready to drift back to sleep anytime she remained on the bed. She has to even motivate herself to wake up and force herself to move out of bed.

"Ugh...it seems that all of my efforts yesterday are starting to take effect huh? It shouldn’t have been so taxing but perhaps being pregnant is also one of the reasons I am slowly becoming tired lately. I just wanted to laze around..." Elaina sighed.

"[You can laze around just fine, just don’t blame us for the loss of potential profit instead of owning yourself for being a bit lazy.]" the god of farming told her, discouraging and calling out her developing stages of laziness.

"Alright, alright. I know, I know. Being a farmer is tough so I also needed to be tough. Lazing around is a big waste so I have to prioritize work..." Elaina can only sigh in protest but can’t do anything.

Walking to the coin box, she counted the money and smiled. The amount of money she got is slowly adding up and filling up the money she was saving for repairing the house. Thanks to some of the monster parts that they acquired yesterday, the profit was also growing as well. It is still nowhere near the previous number but it is going well so far.

Seeing the money, her demotivation slowly became a motivation to continue and earn money. After all, the sooner she gets the money she needs, the sooner she will be rich enough to repair the dilapidated house.

"[Oh yeah, while you were asleep last night I decided to add the notifications and alarm features of the Almanac. It will be useful for you every time you feel tired to even work or something similar to that.]"

"Notifications and alarm?" Elaina frowned as she summoned the book and opened it up. And just like what the god of farming said, there is a specific page that is currently displaying the notifications.

"[It is a neat addition for you to know the subtle changes of your farm. Stuff like "your flowers have fully bloomed in maturity" or something more like "The parsnips are ready to harvest." as part of the notifications. Even some notifications like "Your chicken is sick" are also part of this but I am still currently working on that one at the moment. But this already works and you can see the results.]"

Elaina looked at the Almanac and saw a few strings of words that made her excited.

-Watermelons are now ready to be harvested

Reading the notification on the Almanac, Elaina went out of the house and checked the farm. Seeing the field filled with watermelons growing in the vines of the melon plant.

Not only that but one look from the outside, the texture and shape of the watermelon is something that she is pretty happy to see. Her laziness earlier disappeared in a flash as she immediately approached the nearest watermelon to fully check if the watermelon was ripe and ready to be consumed.

First, she thumped the watermelon’s rind and listened to its sound. One can tell if the watermelon is ripe or not based on the sound alone.

"THUMP!"

Elaina carefully listened and she could tell that the melon’s sound was more hollow on the inside. One of the signs is that the watermelon is ripe and ready. The underside of the melon also has a spot with the color yellow which means the fruit has grown well and enough. The notification of the Almanac is correct, the melon is now ready for harvest.

However, Elaina didn’t want to harvest and sell the fruits. First, she needed to taste-test the watermelon and see for herself if the watermelon was tasty or disgusting. Picking up the one she was testing earlier, she brought it inside and washed it with water to remove the dirt clinging to it before she smelled on the rind.

"Ahh...that sweet smell. This is one of the melons I feel I am ready to eat."

Grabbing the knife, Elaina cut the melon into pieces and divided it enough for all the residents of the farm to taste-test. Elaina realized that the melon she had harvested was something called a seedless. There are no visible seeds whatsoever that would hinder anyone from eating the fruit without stopping from time to time to remove the seeds.

Elaina thought that she would wake everyone up using the watermelon but after a while, Elaina couldn’t resist and decided to grab one of the watermelon slices, and started eating it herself.

"This is...!" Elaina was surprised. The moment she finished one slice, she instinctively felt the need to eat one more.

The richness and sweetness of the watermelon’s flesh burst into her mouth like a small dynamite lit up to explode inside her mouth. With every chew she makes, the more juice the flesh creates which in turn becomes very juicy and sweet. Not only that, but the heat seemed to start cooling down as soon as she started to swallow the flesh and juices into her mouth. Perfect for the summer weather.

"I can keep on eating this one without a problem!" Elaina couldn’t help herself and divided one slice and ate the slice for herself. And just like before, she was so overwhelmed that Elaina could tell this would be one of the big hits once it was now going to be sold.

As soon as Elaina realized it, she called the Feys for action and they started the melons one by one. Ready for a massive sell-off with the watermelon.
